With both of my children I tested negative on home pregnancy tests until I was over 6 weeks pregnant. Also with both I had spotting at the time I would have normally had my period. My periods have never been regular and there are times that my cycles are 40-50 days, my longest being 58 days recently. With my history of not showing positive on home tests, do I need to go and have a doctor give me a pregnancy test every time I am more than a few days late?

Do people realize that most women are over 6 weeks pregnant when they find out they are pregnant.

BUT AGAIN, we are talking about Alabama that is outlawing any kind of abortion.

Alabama law is outlawing heart beat abortions, not all abortions.

Yes, folks that choose not to use birth control or raped and do not want a child, have the responsibility to follow up. Blood test take 6 to 8 days after ovulation. Why does it take months to come to a decision?

Blood tests are done in a doctor's office. They can pick up hCG earlier in a pregnancy than urine tests can. Blood tests can tell if you are pregnant about six to eight days after you ovulate. Doctors use two types of blood tests to check for pregnancy:

  • Quantitative blood test (or the beta hCG test) measures the exact amount of hCG in your blood. So it can find even tiny amounts of hCG. This makes it very accurate.
  • Qualitative hCG blood tests just check to see if the pregnancy hormone is present or not. So it gives a yes or no answer. This blood test is about as accurate as a urine test.

I live in Australia and I can tell you they would NEVER attempt to bring in such a law, and if anyone did, it would be shot down in a heartbeat. We do have inconsistencies across states right now in relation to how abortion is viewed legally, but for a state to actually initiate a NEW law that is this backward, wow!

To be honest, I'm completely shocked something like this has been passed in this day and age. It's embarrassing to be human some days.

So in Australia, anyone can have an abortion after 6 months and the government will pay for it???

Unfortunately, many women have no idea when they are ovulating. Usually the ones who do are the ones who are TRYING to have a baby. These are also the women who are testing early early early. A majority of women are not trying to get pregnant so they are not tracking their ovulation and I have not heard of a fool proof way to do that either.

I was not referring to women wishing, planning and hoping to have child. Most women wanting to become pregnant are watching their cycle and tracking, this most joyful event.

This law is for the folks that decide they don't want a child and have unprotected sex and take no responsibility.

50,000,000 abortions have been preformed since being legal and most are paid for by Medicaid. Yes, the government is funding.

Abortions have become ....just another form of birth control. A very heartbreaking and expensive one.

We could discuss the larger principle, a woman's right to choose, and I could understand each side's argument (while supporting that unequivocal right to choose, always). But to include rape and incest? Like those two acts, this move on the legislature's part is about power - the power to degrade the body of a woman, and to deprive her of her ability to survive criminal acts. Absolutely murderous.

Women certainly have the right to choose, but should there be a little encouragement to choose sooner rather than later? It seems like a rather black and white issue : is there room for a new life, if not, take action.

As always, so eloquently said !!!!

I appreciate everyone's views on the world, but I see this as a very narrow perspective. There are many many reasons why women fall pregnant. There are many social, financial, intellectual, emotional and physiological factors that contribute to a woman finding herself in a situation where she is pregnant. To assume that every one of these situations is due to lack of responsibility or an alternate method of birth control is so very sad, and so very demeaning to females in general.

Hey Everyone,

You know what would make this thread even better? Religion. Let's discuss which religion is really the true religion.
BEING FLIPPANT AND SARCASTIC.
Ok back to being non-flippant and sarcastic.
Look, I feel very strongly about this topic as most of you do too and if I thought there would be any benefit to discussing this turn of events (scares me to think the government would have so much control over my womb) I would allow the discussion to continue.
However, all that will happen is by the end of the day every mod will want to quit and I will start the process of turning Websleuths into a forum discussing cookbooks with threads like "NEW COOKBOOK JUST RELEASED - WHILE LOST IN A VIETNAMESE JUNGLE 5 RECIPES THAT TASTE GREAT AND MAKE YOU TASTE BAD TO PREDATORS"

Really, this topic will cause so much grief that it is just not worth it.

We have so many missing and cold cases that could use your help. You can really make a difference if you decide to post in one of those areas.

Thanks for understanding,
Tricia
