No, no, no...say it ain't so BDY!

I'm pretty sure Diana did the same, back in the day. Seems to be routine for princesses in the British royal family.

You've just poked my memory. I think I remember Diana doing that also, but I didn't think of it as a cruise (party) ship, I thought it was a Royal Navy ship.

Maybe it's just me, but I think it's rather tacky since it is a cruise/party boat.

The British Royals have a long history of christening naval vessels and cruise ships. The ceremony is a grand affair with all the pageantry, pomp and circumstance for which the Royals are famous. Princess Diana was the godmother of the original Royal Princess in 1984, so it is an honor for her son's wife to christen the new Royal Princess. Queen Elizabeth has been a cruise ship godmother along with other famous women.

Only 1 1/2 to 2 mos. until the new royal arrives. I am so excited about this new baby!!

What's black and white and the chicest ever on a boat? Kate Middleton, in her last pre-baby solo public appearance!

I didn't get up early to watch the ship naming ceremony but have watched it since. There's some fabulous music and pageantry, and Duchess Kate is absolutely stunning. The video is about 45 minutes long but worthwhile if you have time. DH and I will be on the ship in January, 2014 for a Caribbean cruise.

Hi Betty, then she took the clerk aside and said "now deliver everything in pink". :floorlaugh: :seeya:

That was my first thought also. They are secretive those royals, but I love them and can't wait for the new royal to be born, be it boy or girl.

The Duchess of Cambridge Names Royal Princess

SOUTHAMPTON, UK (June 13, 2013) – In a spectacular ceremony today in Southampton, Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge named the new ship Royal Princess when she released a bottle of champagne that smashed against its hull.

Standing on the naming platform with the ship’s Captain Tony Draper, The Duchess pronounced, “I name this ship Royal Princess. May God bless her and all who sail in her.” She then cut the rope that sent a giant Nebuchadnezzar-size bottle of Moët & Chandon champagne toward the ship, officially welcoming Royal Princess into the fleet of Princess Cruises, one of the world’s largest international cruise lines.

“We can think of no more fitting godmother for our magnificent new Royal Princess,” said Alan Buckelew, Princess Cruises’ president and CEO. “Her Royal Highness is an inspiring ambassador for Britain - with whom Princess Cruises shares strong ties – and she is admired around the world for her style and grace. We’re so honored she accepted our invitation to become godmother to our new ship..."

Did the people reporting on this forget that India, at one time, was deemed the "...jewel in the crown" of the British Empire? Surely, during the time of British control (which was for over 300 years) intermingling of bloodlines between the people of both countries was bound to happen.

As the countdown begins (OK, make that continues) toward the day when Kate Middleton gives birth to her and Prince William 's little one, new details have emerged regarding the couple's baby plans.

First and foremost, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge do not know the gender of the baby, according to a St. James's Palace spokesperson.

As for where the child will be born, he or she will be delivered at the Lindo Wing of London's St. Mary's Hospital. This is also where the late Princess Diana gave birth to William and his younger brother, Prince Harry...

I for one will miss Diana forever, she was often the Royals scapegoat! Diana and Michael Jackson have been the celebs that broke my heart.Life goes on! Kate brings much to the lineage of the royals and I do believe she and William love each other, unlike Charles and Diana. Good on ya mates.....

LONDON (CNN) -

Britain's royal family has long been taunted for its German roots, but now a more exotic lineage can be revealed after evidence emerged indicating that Prince William is the direct descendant of an Indian woman.
"The mitochondrial DNA will not be passed on to the child of William and Kate," he added. "But because we also did some testing on the other DNA of his cousins, we could see that they had little bits of Indian DNA across their genome, so it's quite likely that William has a few other bits of Indian DNA, and he could well pass them on to the child."

A big what so what? The future heir to the British throne may have a few bits of Indian DNA - and why should anyone care?

I find this a little offensive because the article can be interpreted to imply that German DNA s somehow inferior and Indian DNA is so different from regular human DNA that its existence in a member of the royal family is newsworthy and perhaps a bit worrisome as well - oh no, a few bits of Indian DNA might be passed on to the heir. Or does the Indian DNA cancel out the effects of the German DNA so the baby is good to go now?

Maybe it's just in my head and there is just scientific interest for the sake of scientific interest. But then why mention taunting?
