Anthony's Computer Forensics

I'm still stuck on KC's laptop activity on June 17th for some reason. I stumbled upon this in the docs I'd like to bring up for further discussion:

http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news...y-anthony-google-documents,0,5707965.htmlpage

Last page 8 (doc pg #2008) down to paragraph 5, it lists some of the activity on the laptop and the times. What sticks out to me is that there was activity around midnight (17th) and some "system files" accessed around the 1400-1500 time frame. Then it is specific to note "Safari" Internet activity at 1600 hour....

Safari is an Apple Internet application. KC typically used Mozilla/Firefox as her internet browser. I'm thinking she was using Safari for downloading music from itunes or at best listening to it. The question I pose, is what other use would she have for using Safari vs Mozilla/Firefox? I don't think the iTouch was even out yet at that time and I don't think she had an iPhone. We know her friend (JP?) didn't pick his up at the mall until July 15th cuz they had just come out with a new one.

I asked the same. Went back and found the computers were compaq and HP.

I have apple computers. itunes does have an application that can be downloaded to use on a pc, but it doesn't use safari in any manner.

I haven't been able to find or figure out the safari connection to the computers yet. AFAIK, safari is a Mac only application.

One more question, I think...

Do any of you knowledgeable computer people (you know who you are) think that there is more computer evidence yet to be released ? I know the question calls for a bit of guessing, but I (not being computer savvy) feel that there is indeed more, and would really like to know, from the more savvy, if my instinct might be on the right track.

Also, do we think that Casey took Cindy's laptop into her possession on June 17th ? I dont know why this matters to me, but it does.

Yep, I think there are hundreds of pages we have not seen.

As to the laptop, I haven't seen anything about a date when KC took possession. But I think it was long ago, or soon after it was purchased.

I am just learning that safari can be downloaded onto any computer..I thought it was Mac specific too. My husband "enlightened" me. :)

Maybe someone else was looking something up on her computer. DH and I don't use the same browser so if popped on to his the history would look similar. Does Tony use Mac? He is going to a film school so I would bet he does.

Well I be dang. I have been away from the IT field for almost five years now and I dumped micro$ three years ago after drinking the Mac Kool aid and never looked back.

I knew about itunes having a PC compatible version, but not safari.

Thanks, now this is something I can give up looking for. Gotta save every working brain cell that I can. :)

Not only that, I could see how it might end up on someone's PC. I keep iTunes around because it's handy for sorting out my music library and tracking NPR podcasts (I hate to miss 'Cartalk'.) When it tries to do it's auto-update it has an annoying habit of wanting to badger me into loading Safari. An unwary computer user could easily find it installed on their machine.

Thanks Bond...as far a comparisions to the Peterson case, Lacey and Scott went to Lacey's sisters hair salon the evening of 12/23. Her sister was able to tell LE what Lacey was wearing. LE found the shirt her sister described rolled up into a ball stuffed deep down inside the laundry hamper. The pants were never found TILL Lacey's body washed ashore. Her skeletal remains were "wearing" a bra and the pants she was seen in 12/23. It was surmised that Lacey was getting ready for bed when Scott killed her. she had only removed her shirt, nothing else, before her death/murder. I find the fact that Caylee's shorts she was FILMED wearing 6/15 with her skeletal remains as PROOF she was killed 6/15.

PS. I have NEVER believed CA's story that her and Caylee went swimming in the family pool late 6/15 (pre-fight?) NOR GA's claim of seeing KC and Caylee leave on 6/16. Quick pop quiz- name ANY article of clothing ANY family member of yours was wearing exactally a month ago!!! Aha! Can't can you. NONE of us can/could. Total BS! I just wish LE would have called him out to his face ON TAPE.

Boldened by me: Could Cindy have been choking KC because of Caylee's possible accidental death? Was that what the fight was about? Sorry OT

The I phone comes with Safari - don't know if that helps you, but I thought I'd pass it along in case it might.

Thanks TallyHo! See, that's what caught my attention about the use of Safari in the docs. I have an iTouch and use the Safari app. Hubby got an iPhone a short time back and now has it. So the iStuffs seem to me to be the use of choice for the app. Just not sure why KC was using it. I find it peculiar! :waitasec:

It hardly seems too likely. If KC had died then, CA would have either called 911 right away (and ), or would have never called at all and totally covered it up (in which case she probably would have been buried in the backyard given the way they have done nothing but crusade about how innocent KC is). The panic in CA's voice on the 911 calls on July 15th are just unmistakable.

Another lesson for those less than computer savvy...

There are many Free applications that clear your internet tracks...
One that I suggest is CCLEANER. This will also remove registry entries that tend to clog up the the registry. This comes from removing and installing applications. This only helps with your tracks on your computer.
This will not help with posting or updating items on Myspace or Facepage.
Casey would not have been able to cover those tracks at all.

However, keep in mind.. with a nice data recovery program alot of these deleted files can be retrieved. The best way to cover your tracks is to completely destroy the hard drive or do a Department of Defense standard format. This would require a full install of the operating system and applications and restoration of data files from a backup. ( I would not suggest anyone to do this if you are NOT experienced.)

Not sure this helps but my spouse works in the computer forensic arena, we were talking about this very subject..and he said 99.999% cleaners do not work. He said they will erase some data or user activity, but tools such as EnCase, FTK, and other Forensic tools not available to the public retrieves 99.9 of deleted dat/files. He said you could use a Degauseer which demagnitizes the data in about 10 seconds. The only way to retrieve that data would be from the NSA etc. Yes, he said that doing a 1 Pass with a tool such as DBAN (Free) would do the trick, no need to do 3 or 7 passess..(DOD 5220.22-M). Better yet, just running your Defrag application would be better to scramble you data...it scatters the files in your File Allocation Table (FAT), then run DBAN or tools such as Eraser, http://www.heidi.ie/node/6...

OMG,i didn't understand a word of what you just said---I am TOTALLY out of it!!!:banghead::banghead::banghead:

If it makes you feel any better, I didn't understand a word of what "I said" either. Actually, that info was from my husband, we got into a conversation about deleted info on a computer after I read one of the posts here. I am not computer savvy, so he ends up explaining much of this to me.

I hope to one day "understand".

Don't think KC was smart enough to know how to use CCleaner. It isn't for the faint of heart to use when you haven't a clue what you are doing. It is a very intimidating program for some. KC was no doubt under the impression that most PC users are; that once you put info into the trash and dump the trash is it gone for good. Once you delete your cache files, your history is gone. It is, from your screen and your files, but it still is on the harddrive.

I am really interested in viewing all the computer forensic file reports. The ones released only pertained to the searches KC did and to locate info on the bio daddy and zanny-nanny info.

No, I don't think she went to extreme measures to cover her tracks.

I am very anxious to see the case file from the computer examiner, but I dont know if the whole thing is discoverable. I know there is more..much more and I can't wait to see it !

Bringing this over from the June 15 Details thread, as it is more appropriate here than there.

I was asked about the computer forensics file that was released a year ago but never uploaded by media. Muzikman :rocker: was kind enough to send me a copy a while ago. Others have recently begged  me for a copy.

I had trouble with filedropper :banghead: and some others getting a link back after uploading the file. I finally got the file uploaded here. :thumb:

If you have trouble with that link, then try this one. In this second link you need to supply them an email address, and they will email you the link from which to download. That's how I got the first link.

Have fun.

Warning: the file is 100MB compressed.

I know this is old, but I use Safari as an internet gateway (as well as Firefox and, if I have to, IE) and I have a PC. It's slower on a non-Mac, but I just feel better about the security level for some reason. It's also laid out nicer and some internet games do better on it, FWIW.

Thx for posting this! I am going through everything and came across the EJB/JO Memorium thing-I Googled that phrase that is attributed to JOrtiz, and it is actually an Arnold Schwartzenegger quote. Along with the 08/11/07 date of death.

Could KC have created this, saved as an HTML, then opened again as a temp doc? I know everything has been hashed over in depth here, but thought I would ask now that we know slightly more about her computer habits.
