''VERNON, Conn — A Manchester firefighter was arrested as a part of solving a series of violent sexual assault cold cases.

47-year-old Angelo Alleano is being charged with 4 counts of sexual assault and three counts of burglary

Vernon and Manchester police say although it’s been nearly 2- decades since the first sexual assault incident took place, all the way back in 2001, they say they’ve never stopped trying to solve the case.''
''Between 2001 and 2008, Manchester and Vernon Police investigated a series of residential burglaries where the suspect sexually assaulted his victims. Police believed the four reported incidents are related and committed by the same suspect''

''According to the arrest warrant, police laid out each incident since 2001 in Manchester where police say Alleano raped an 87-year old woman.''

''Years later, two similar incidents took place after two women- one being 57-years-old and the other 37-years old year were sexually assaulted in 2004 and 2007.

The last incident was in Vernon where a 61-year-old woman was also assaulted.''

"Investigators say they recently used new ancestry technology to attempt to identify the “John Doe” who committed these sexual assaults. Police worked with the State of Connecticut Forensic Lab and a genealogy service to analyze the evidence.''

It was just a matter of time. That violent of a person never stops. His anger and power issues never stop. So sad that it took so long for him to be caught. Glad to see a $5 million dollar bond too.

Vernon PD: Suspect in cold case sexual assaults arrested
''They said the first attack happened in August 2001 at the Squire Village Apartments in Manchester. The 84-year-old victim claims the suspect broke in and raped her on her couch at 2:30 in the afternoon.

Police reports state he would place a pillow over his victims’ faces, threaten them and ask them for money. Victims also said he had an issue performing the sexual acts.''

''Police believe he was employed as a firefighter when the incidents occur.

Detectives are continuing to look into the case. Anyone with information on Alleano is being asked to contact Vernon Detective Thomas Van Tasel 860-872-9126 or Manchester Detective James Moore 860-645- 5500. Callers may remain anonymous, police said.''

Gedansky asked Judge James Sicilian to impose $5 million bail for charges of first-degree sexual assault and second-degree burglary, citing the seriousness of the charges, the strength of the state’s case and the danger Alleano would pose to the community if released.

Alleano is accused in four sexual assaults, three in Manchester and one in Vernon. He did not enter a plea.''

''He said Alleano is the father of two children. “He is a family man, someone who is very concerned with his family. He hopes to get back to his family,” Velodota said.''

“I do agree the case appears to be extremely serious and extremely strong,” the judge said.

He set bail at $1 million. Case continued to July 10 in Rockville Superior Court. At the request of the public defender, the judge placed a mental health watch on Alleano.''

Bond changed (5/29/20) to $1M.
New genealogy technology was a key in pinning Alleano to the case.
5/29/20 Update: Initial appearance hearing. Tolland State’s Attorney Matthew C. Gedansky asked Judge James Sicilian to impose $5 million bail. He set bail at $1 million. He also ordered Alleano to have “no contact of any kind” with any of the rape victims, all of whom were attacked in their homes by an intruder they couldn’t identify. In addition to the serial rape case, Alleano is charged with disorderly conduct in a domestic incident. The judge set his bond at $500 in that case and issued a family violence protective order against him — but didn’t order him to avoid contact with the complainant. Case continued to July 10 in Vernon Superior Court. At the request of the public defender, the judge placed a mental health watch on Alleano.

Sounds like a family member did their DNA and uploaded it to GEDmatch. DNA Karma.

Although police recovered DNA from the victims, no match was found in state or federal databases. Investigators got a break when the state lab was able to compare the DNA profile to DNA in the possession of a company that provides home DNA tests for people interested in their ancestry. The company was able to generate a family tree that led police to Alleano.

I live in ct and remember hearing about this sicko.... Smh how are you going to be in the lone of helping people and YOU ARE the one to harm them? I dont understand why push it this far for a thrill.... These ladies lives changed that day and will never be the same until the day they die all for what? Especially when he couldn't even perform.... I will see what i can come up with on this case but courts have been at a stand still because of covid 19 and only the most serious of cases have been seen/heard but i will keep it updated as soon as i can stay safe everyone
