Family's plea to find missing man
13 November, 2014
Jake Lyons is a 20-year-old Dandenong North man who has been missing since August.
His family are obviously desperate to find him and I'm hoping our listeners can assist.
Jake has a history of mental illness, and before he left he dismantled his phone and computer.

It’s been almost three months since Jake Lyons mysteriously left his Dandenong North home. His father Rick went out with friends on 25 August and returned to find his Scullin Street house unlocked and the gas stove on. There was no sign of 20-year-old Jake and he hasn’t contacted family or friends since.

Police fear a young Melbourne man missing for four months may have been murdered.

The Cold Case and Missing Persons Squad has taken over the investigation into the disappearance of Jake Lyons after information recently provided to local detectives raised their suspicions.

[snip]

His car, a 2006 Holden Astra sedan, was found at Warner Reserve in Springvale, about seven kilometres from home, six days after his disappearance.

Police were searching the reserve on Tuesday for any sign of Mr Lyons.

"It's probably too early to say whether there's any people of interest," Detective Inspector Dyson said.

"There's certainly information we're pursuing. We haven't actually followed that to the end of the inquiry and hopefully when we do we'll be in a position to discuss it further."

Rick Lyon said goodbye to his son Jake before leaving his Scullion Street home, in Dandenong North, for work on August 25, 2014.

It was the last time he would see him.

When he returned home at about 5pm he found the house unlocked, vacant, and the stove gas left on.

Police believe Jake left home at some point during the day and bought a drink, some snacks, and withdrew $50 from a supermarket on Springvale Road, in neighbouring suburb Springvale.

The car the 20-year-old was driving was found parked in Warner Reserve (pictured), Springvale, and was locked with the keys underneath the vehicle

Five days later police found the Holden Astra the young video gamer had been driving, locked with the keys underneath it, in the car park in Springvale's Warner Reserve.

'Nothing within the car suggests that he left in a rush,' Assistant Commissioner Steve Fontana said previously.

'However, Jake has not made any contact with family or friends, and his bank account has not been accessed since this date.'

Over the past six years, police have looked into whether Jake met with foul play, took his own life or was living off grid as a recluse.

There are so far no answers.

His father Rick Lyons farewelled the 20-year-old in the morning but when he returned home from work between 5pm to 6pm the house was unlocked and the gas stove was turned on.
Police believe the younger Mr Lyons went to Springvale during the day to get snacks, drinks and withdraw $50 from a supermarket.

His 2006 Holden Astra sedan was found around seven kilometres north of his home at Warner Reserve in Springvale on August 31, 2014. The keys were underneath the car and the doors were locked.

Since then he hasn't made contact with friends or family, used social media or accessed his bank account.

Police hold grave concerns for his welfare. He would be 29-years-old.
