"Police in the Northern Territory have launched an aerial search for five campers missing in the Central Australian outback.

The group of young doctors - Gabrielle Freedman, 29, Shaygun Narula, 27, Haydn Dodds, 29, Renae Walker, 31 and Jessica Kolic, 29 - were travelling in a 2012 white Toyota HiLux with the license plate 653414 at around 5pm on Saturday.

Concerns were raised after they failed to meet up with friends at a campground, 150 kilometres east of Alice Springs over the weekend.

Police were notified by friends of the group on Sunday afternoon, that the missing five were supposed to meet with them and camp overnight at Ruby Gap, a nature park in the East MacDonnell Ranges, on Saturday night.

The park is only accessible by a challenging four-wheel drive track.

Senior Sergeant Darryl Kerr told the ABC that the group never arrived."
