I watched the show tonight and it seems near impossible that a person who is drunk and has taken stilnox, would be able to get into that chute. Someone put her down there and it pretty obvious who that person is :moo:

Rest peacefully gorgeous Phoebe <3

Here's hoping your wonderful family will be able to get justice for you.

Eta I knew I recognised that apartment building! I stayed in the hotel directly across from it over NY. Creepy looking building it is.....

This case has been very quiet.....until now.....I had never heard of her until Sunday Night and in this day and age anything like this hits the media in some way... ...her poor family, at least now that it is in the public domain the boyfriend cant hide anymore and her parents can hopefully get some answers.

I forgot to say It would be such an awful feeling knowing that the ambo's were not aloud in to Pheobe due to the police calling it a crime scene ... very shocking indeed, due to her having such a high alcohol she would have been very 'relaxed/floppy' when she feel & there could have been a few very crucial moments that maybe would have changed the outcome to this awful story.

*reminds me of another tragic case shown here is Aus on a program called Four Corners .... Adam Salter's father was pushed into a bedroom of his own house, when he could have been in the kitchen calming his son down ( long interesting story follow the link ) however the Police said the kitchen was a crime scene & Adam's father could not be with him. This story too is very sad.

Several questions come to mind after reading about this:

1. How do they know she definitely fell down the garbage chute?
2. Could her body have been placed in the compactor room rather than falling down the chute?
3. Assuming she did fall down the chute - how are they sure she fell from the 12th floor? Surely there are doors to the chute on other floors.
4. Why are they so certain that she went down the chute feet first?
5. What's with the reference to blood on a garage door by the letter writer? No other reference to that anywhere that I can find.

Imagine Phoebe's body was planted in the so called 'compactor room'.

From what we know publicly, i wouldn't rule this suicide, I’d rule it an open finding. It's simply preposterous that she jumped down the chute. No matter the lack of evidence pointing to the contrary, I still couldn’t let myself rule it a suicide as it’s simply too improbable, on the face of it.

I remember when this happened! (although I didn't know details at the time). My sister lives in an apartment building a couple of buildings away and let us know that there were police at Balencia, as at the time we were looking for apartments in Balencia.

The fact that she called the Alfred hospital and other services makes me believe that she could have been suicidal, but if she did do it, it it is hard to understand why she didn't just choose the balcony.

an inquest will be held into Phoebe's death. I hope that justice is found for Phoebe, I do not believe that she committed suicide, I do not believe that she caused her own death. MOO IMO etc etc etc

Such good news that an inquest will now be launched, but it is unreal that it has taken 2¼ years since Phoebe died to reach this point.

The parents of Phoebe's boyfriend, Antony Hampel, certainly are a powerful couple.

I just read about this. How terribly sad! It seems odd to me the boyfriend and his family wouldn't want an inquest. Why not? If it was my partner found that way, I would want to know why and how. Makes me feel quite uneasy. Rip gorgeous girl :(

You most certainly would think so wouldn't you... I agree.

Especially with the boyfriend's parents being such well-known, well-regarded judges. I'm sure that any inquest endorsed by Antony Hampel's parents would have been completed very thoroughly and efficiently, and as quickly as possible.

Instead, they may have used their influence to keep the case under wraps for a couple of years ....

A CORONER will investigate the side effects of controversial drug Stilnox during an inquest into the death of a woman who fell 12 storeys down a garbage chute.

Phoebe Handsjuk, 24, died in December 2010 in the garbage disposal room of her apartment building on St Kilda Rd in Melbourne.

Handsjuk's grandfather, who is a retired detective, has carried out his own tests to re-enact the feet-first entry and fall down the garbage chute.

No suicide has ever been reported to occur this way in Australia before, and the inquest will hear evidence about the operation of the chute and how someone could pass through it.

The inquest is due to start on August 5.

Not sure if this has been posted, but the Visitors Log from the building was also 'missing'

http://www.theage.com.au/victoria/visitors-log-missing-in-death-fall-case-20130501-2it30.html

"A worker at the apartment building where Phoebe Handsjuk fell 12 storeys to her death found that a log of who entered the complex on the day the young woman died went missing, a court has heard.

The worker was also asked questions by a friend of Ms Handsjuk's boyfriend in the weeks after the 24-year-old died when she fell down a rubbish chute at a St Kilda Road apartment complex on December 2, 2010, the Coroners Court of Victoria was told on Wednesday."

The Coroner made a suppression order on 1st May for 'specific information contained within the inquest brief'. So whatever we do hear about the inquest is going to be filtered. Perhaps to keep the boyfriend's name out of the media?

And already in place is a suppression order from 8th March on CCTV footage of Phoebe at her apartment building.

This link shows the ruling to hold the inquest, as well as links to the suppression orders.

The Phoebe Handsjuk website says that the inquest will begin on 5 August 2013 and may run for three weeks. It also says twenty seven witnesses will be called.

A MOTHER who refuses to accept that her daughter killed herself has raised $50,000 to pay for an inquest.

The death of Phoebe Handsjuk, 24, whose body was found in a compacting area at the foot of a garbage chute in a St Kilda Rd apartment block in December 2010, was ruled a suicide by police.

But Natalie Handsjuk said: "I won't ever believe that's what happened, and I think I've got very good reasons for not believing that. I don't think she did put herself down that chute. I think she's been put in there, for whatever reason."
