  • The bodies of Todd Mooney, 54, and his daughter Kirra, 10, were found in the burnt-out shed
  • The police investigation has been upgraded to homicide after initially believing it was a "terrible, tragic accident"
  • SES volunteers are searching nearby paddocks for a potential weapon
Detective Inspector Pettiford said police were "really interested" in help from the community.

"We're appealing to members of the public in this local area to come forward if they do know anything about this incident," he said.

"We're also looking for any dashcam [footage] that might be available from motorists that were travelling between Biggenden and Mundubbera on December 20 between 10:00am and 2:00pm."

Homicide investigation after Queensland father and daughter killed in shed fire

Baker Todd Mooney, 54, and his daughter Kirra, 10, were found dead after fire tore through a large shed at their home on Fenwicks Road, Biggenden about 12.20pm on December 20.

Mooney had been due to marry his long-term partner at the property this week.

Rebecca Hansen, Kirra's mother and Mooney's partner was at work when fire tore through the shed.
What a devastating discovery for Ms Hansen, to lose her partner and child in a fire but then informed there was allegedly a weapon involved, it's a homicide.
Is there some long standing grievance with a local?

Terribly sad. I wonder if they lived inside the shed? Fire happened at 12:20pm. Were they asleep having baked early in the morning…or taken to the shed for some reason. Odd that the daughter would also be asleep, unless she helped at the bakery the night/morning before. Jealousy perhaps and they destroyed the shed to wreak havoc on the wedding, but killed two people in the process. Something doesn’t add up.

And apparently they’d only lived in the town for 2-3 years. Doesn’t seem long enough to make an enemy. But I suppose 2-3 years is long enough for someone who didn’t like the newcomers of the town. Lovely looking couple, successful business, happy, inlove and a gorgeous daughter. Someone maybe thought they’d take the shine off and it went seriously wrong.

"Pettiford said Mooney’s fiancée and Kirra’s mother, who was working at the couple’s Biggenden bakery business at the time of the fire, is struggling.

She and Mooney were due to get married at their wedding on their property on Wednesday.

“She was at the bakery and a neighbour called her to tell her about the fire,” Pettiford said."

The video in this suggests ballistics team have been at the crime scene. Also mentioned it was meant to be a double wedding at the property.

Police have released CCTV and images taken at the Ban Ban Springs BP Service Station, corner of Isis Hwy and Burnett Hwy, between 11.50am and 12.20pm on Tuesday, December 20, of three people.
