Upon reflection on this whole saga, I am just getting the feeling that this case is not going to be solved. At least not in the foreseeable future. Riot police and all the specialists have left the scene, because they have searched and double and triple searched the same places, and they said there is nothing more they can do. Some local police and steadfast locals apparently will carry on, but I feel that's more a gesture than out of conviction they'll find William. I also think police are clutching at straws in getting the sex crimes squad etc involved. I don't think that's on the basis of any lead as much as it is in the absence of leads. All very disheartening. The family's not under suspicion, police don't think it was an opportunistic abduction ... There just seems nothing to latch onto.
By this stage, yes, I would have expected the family to come out and say something, or at least stand next to their spokesperson. If not the mother, then how about the father or the grandmother? I'd be trying anything, just to break the pattern and maybe stir something up. You'd also think that, with the importance that is attached to personal appeals in equivalent cases, one could concede there'd be some rationale for this. Anything's worth a shot!!
I think media has pulled back on the reporting a bit, because there's simply nothing new to report. Just more and more footage of people trawling through the bush.
It's very hard for the general public to know what to make of a 'faceless family'. We all imagine and believe they are distraught, but for anyone with any knowledge and conscience - if there is such a person out there, it might just tip the scales???
