That right there would be a good angle to focus on. Seems an obvious ploy on their part.

Good Luck and stay strong.

It was, and Rudi WAS released from Death Row on this preposterous argument and they have still been fighting for Michael all these years on that same argument even though his was shot down. I just read a tweet a couple of days ago about it--people still championing that dead cause. The DP never ends...until they die of natural causes in prison or are released from death row on arguments such as these. MOST are never executed--I think the execution rate is something like 3%.

Hello Katie.

So glad to hear from you again. I didnt realize at first I was replying to an older post and so sorry to hear it worked for them.

You are so right about the DP and I learned from your case that sadly it is much better for Prosecuters to just go for Life without parole rather than the DP that some killers deserve.

Best wishes for you and your family in 2018.

We had so much great discussions during the Jodi Arias trial. :)

No worries, Hatfield, it's hard to follow sometimes. The silver lining for one of Cindy's killers getting off death row, well actually two of them, were a. he enjoyed over two decades of living right next to his brother being able to talk to each other, in their native tongue, through vents--GONE--he was moved to an entirely different prison where they will never have direct communication again. And b. no one cares about him anymore--once they are off death row, no one really fights to save them anymore, meaning WE get to be freed from their influence via their champions.
The kicker with this though is since there was no LWOP when they were sentenced, they get grandfathered in to Life WITH parole. So at least our biased Judge who did everything she could to pull him off DR, sentenced his First Degree Murder and Conspiracy as consecutive, so that bought us another 25 years. The irony is, even though he will serve a second sentence, he is still granted parole hearings on the first one--so every year he comes up for parole. I wrote a letter which my victim advocate read this last time and no parole was granted, but still...
As I predicted, no one was there to champion and support him, they have all moved on to other vicious murderers on death row to champion and feel sorry for, claim as "victims". Yeah, it is disgusting.
Thank you for remembering me! :D Happy New Year to you!

Good to see you again, Katie! And with good news, too.

I forgot the sentence was Life with possibility of parole... egads. I sure hope he never gets out, but I hate that you could always have to go through something connected to their sentences.

Hope you pop in occasionally. You do get missed, you know. Happy New Year, luv.

Investigation Discovery Network is premiering a new show this month called True Conviction. The host is a former Brooklyn prosecutor named Anna Sigga Nicolazzi who had a 100% conviction rate. Her emphasis is going around the country, finding prosecutors’ most challenging cases and detailing all involved in obtaining a successful conviction. My sister, Cindy’s case, is one they are highlighting in this six part series.

They are doing a full one hour show on it. I was contacted out of the blue last Fall by a producer, who had stumbled upon our case in some Newspaper site. Kind of impeccable timing as I’ve been diving back in to it for the last three years, working on my book about it. I had so much information that they needed at my fingertips–records, photos, etc.
Yet, rummaging through all my stuff, allowed me to find more photos and even an audiotape from Cindy that I had not seen in decades. It was a bittersweet, but mostly healing journey for me, and I’m glad I did it.

The producers, show runner, crew and Anna Sigga herself treated me with such delicate respect. They also flew my husband John, out to AZ to be with me the entire time (and boy did I need him, even just for logistical things but mainly the moral support).
I was filmed in my car with Go-pro’s all installed and on top of a mountain in an outdoor set they created just for my interview. There were hugs and tears throughout the small crowd.I also got to reconnect with some of the Detectives involved. The timing of that was perfect as well, because they got to see the end of the story with me--finally having found love and a stable, healthy marriage after all this time. It was so heartwarming all the way around.Cindy’s killers, while on Death Row, have received so much attention (and financial support) all of these years.

The spotlight definitely turned on to them as “victims”, vs. my sister. It’s been a nauseating and frustrating process to have to be involved with, say the least. How refreshing to be involved in a show that is 100% focused on the prosecution, giving them zero platform. And, most importantly, our amazing, never to be forgotten, prosecutor, Cathy Hughes who is the HERO of this entire story. It really is about her, a story long overdue. I cannot ever, EVER say enough good things about Cathy Hughes, one of the best, most amazing humans I have ever known.
I recently got a confirmation on the date the show will be aired: Tues. February 13 at 10pm EST. Investigation Discovery channel. Again, the name is True Conviction.

Here is a blurb I found:https://www.broadwayworld.com/bwwtv...eek-at-New-Series-TRUE-CONVICTION-11-20171229“Deception in the Desert” premieres Tuesday, February 13 at 10/9c
An unidentified young woman is found murdered in the Arizona desert on Christmas Eve, 1988. Detectives soon learned her name, Cindy Monkman Apelt, who was reported missing by her husband the night prior. As investigators painstakingly piece together an account of Cindy’s final hours, they move closer and closer to revealing her killer. Prosecutor Anna-Sigga Nicolazzi revisits the shocking crime with the detectives and state attorney who solved the case and ultimately won justice for Cindy’s family

I plan on doing some kind of Live Facebook Q & A after the show sometime. Not immediately after, but maybe the next day. I know there will be many unanswered questions, so I will do that in that format if you want to participate. I’ll let you know more details closer to the time. Thanks for the support guys.

Hi Bravo, we have a 70 in new TV and I'm on every commercial now for this show--it's kind of freaking me out to basically see every pore in my face over and over. ;) Nice to see you! I'm mostly in PA now but get back to AZ semi-regularly. Maybe one day.....

If anyone wants to familiarize themself with our case, before or after the airing of True Conviction tomorrow (Feb. 13 on Investigation Discovery), I found this link which details the OVERTURN of Michael Apelt's appeal granted for a new trial. If you scroll down to Page 5, the section "FACTS" will detail the case, or at least the major facts. I'm about 2/3 of the way finished with my book and looking for a publisher, which will go in to far more than this, but here is a pretty comprehensive link from the 9th Circuit court:

Thank you so much ginger-snap! I'm glad you saw it...I was really pleased with how it came out, respectfully done about Cindy, our prosecutor, etc. It still was very hard to watch.

I am very happy to report that Rudi Apelt, one of Cindy's killers, died in prison yesterday of natural causes. Not sure exactly what (yet) but my attorney called me to inform me.

We were having to do annual parole hearings on him after he got released from death row on a "intellectual disability" appeal which are now never going to be a part of my life ever again.

I cannot describe how relieved I've felt over the last 24 hours.

FYI, the show American Monster is doing a new show on Cindy's case this Sunday 11/20 at 9pm. It's on Investigation Discovery. I hope they do her story justice. I was interviewed at length for it.

I saw the new show. It was very well done and my heart hurts for you and the loss of your beloved sister.
Thank you so much. They promised it would be mostly about her, which I think it was. There is a youtube interview I did afterward that fills in lots of blanks.
