Has anyone seen the picture of Blake Ruff at the Marti Gras party in Longview TX for a fundraiser at the Flying Feathers Ranch. The reason I ask is because he is pictured with a female and the caption says "Blake and Lauren Weber" I found this intriguing as Weber is the maiden name listed for the original Becky Sue Turner, her mother was Rosemary Weber from Montana. Could be coincidence but just wanted to see what everyone else might think of this? First off, Welcome to the forum! I don't want to just shoot down your first post, but I also came up with that hit when searching. If you go through the pictures to the next to last one, there is a picture of another woman who happens to have the name Lori Ruff. She is a well known as a specialist in marketing through online media and is not related to this case in any way. The Blake in 2nd picture is not the same man as the one that was married to the Jane Doe, we refer to as FLEK (false Lori Erica Kennedy).

That's not Blake Ruff, but a different Longview man named Blake Weber. Also, the Lori Ruff in the Mardi Gras pictures is the wrong Lori, if you look online you'll find that there's a different (blonde) woman named Lori Ruff also from Longview, who is alive and well. It's less weird when you realise that the Ruffs are a large family, and from the Longview area, so there are a lot of different Ruff individuals in Longview.

Doh, you are so right about the cities. There goes the main thing that kept me thinking it was her.

But I don't think that sort of timeframe is a huge problem. She could have planned the new identity well ahead and she could have kept calling her mother every so often to keep her from reporting her missing. Back then before computers became so powerful a false identity wasn't such a big risky thingl to create as it is now. If you knew of a suitable candidate such as poor Becky Sue then it was just a matter of applying for the documents. Nowadays it is a huge expense and a person wouldn't be likely to do it well ahead of time and based upon plans that may change.

She's got straight up and down teeth very similar to the Beck Sue ID. That's quite a nose she has on her, think maybe she got a nose job and stopped plucking her brows before becoming Becky Sue?
 
OK. So I have dug even deeper into the Lawyer from LA listed on the notes sheet. His family ( children) all live in Los Angeles or close to it. One of their cousins ( found by facebook trace by looking at friends/family connections has a white family I believe with Jewish decent in the background.(Levin) our LEK has very similar features, which leads me to believe maybe she has a Jewish background. I want to believe this lawyer was referred to her by someone and my theory is by someone in HIS family, like I stated before in his obit he had a daughter that passed before him, but I cant find ANY info on her except one of her sisters mentions happy bday to her and she was missed her bday was June 29th, unknown year. if you look at the obit you can get the children's names. It seems by their Facebook they were estranged from the father. The family has connections ( multiple) in Mississippi, Chicago and Dallas, TX. I really believe our LEK had LOTS of help making this switch in identity, and it looks like the lawyer might be the best bet, since he was barred from practice..he had to be making money somehow.

Has anyone else used the sisters that died in the fires identities? the other girls names are listed in that article the Seattle times posted. I wonder if Becky Sue also had DLs made with the other girls ID?? IF you are gonna do one, why not many?!

I really feel like the church listed address in TX is shady. The guy seems like a con. Just a feeling, really.

I do believe our BEST bet is to concentrate on PRE Texas. UNLESS...she was using a combination of her new ID and her real one like mixing the names...something like Susie Kennedy or spelling Lori a different way... if you combine her first and middle LORI..E..rica
you can see lorie ..in the getting lost and never being found they suggest using your real first name and a similar last to prevent slip ups..right? Maybe her real last name SOUNDS like K... maybe Cannady?

The e's in these eyes are different to the other words on the scratch sheet, but she uses e's like that in other places. The Becky Sue Turner id card has e's like the "these eyes" e's.

As a teacher, I would be working hard to correct a bad habit such as using upper case letters incorrectly. Her writing has made me wonder about her schooling as well.

even if LEK/Jane Doe was a He/She -I am not sure that information brings us even one step closer having that info to figure out who she was before taking the Becky Sue Turner identity?

Unless the He/She was reported missing as a male... what would the odds of that be- a missing he/she (who then stole a dead girls id and so the rest of her story goes)?

I am just saying even if I bought into the theory, I don't think it would help us... unless someone can find a missing he/she who looks like LEK/Jane Doe...
 
I noticed upthread that there is a list of possible matches for LEK but also noticed some of them were born prior to 1960. That would make her in her 30s in the Becky Turner ID photo when she states she was 18. I know it is suspected she may have been a bit older than 18 but I doubt she could have been above 25 at the most, which would make her DOB 1963. Just an observation that we probably don't need to look back that far; I just don't think a woman in her 30s could normally pass for 18, especially a woman as tall as LEK. I could see her pretending to be slightly older than she actually was, so I was thinking an estimated birth date of 1963 to 1973. This is not a criticism of any of the potential matches that have been named; I actually had one in mind myself because her stats would match up, but after rechecking my potential match's birthdate I saw it was 1956, which would have made her 32 in 1988.
 
I have been following this mystery myself. I can only speculate:
1) some religious belief? the notes found in her "secret box" had the words "402 months" which is 33.5 years of Jesus being alive here on earth.
2) she came alone to the U.S with no papers and was trying to build an identity.
3) she was a daughter of a Hippie commune and scaped to start all over.

I know it is suspected she may have been a bit older than 18 but I doubt she could have been above 25 at the most, which would make her DOB 1963. Just an observation that we probably don't need to look back that far; I just don't think a woman in her 30s could normally pass for 18, especially a woman as tall as LEK. I could see her pretending to be slightly older than she actually was, so I was thinking an estimated birth date of 1963 to 1973. This is not a criticism of any of the potential matches that have been named; I actually had one in mind myself because her stats would match up, but after rechecking my potential match's birthdate I saw it was 1956, which would have made her 32 in 1988.

I agree. I think she was most likely born around 1963.
 
Are the recent comments about the driver's license referring to the 1988 Idaho ID card? It was not technically a driver's license, but a state issued ID. While fake ID cards and driver's licenses were pretty easy to get "back in the day," Velling did mention that it was determined to be a valid state issued ID card. (I think he said it during the online chat.)

I find it curious that she didn't actually get a driver's license until April 1989. Did she loose her driving privileges for some reason, so had to wait until 1989 to get a valid license? Or was she still using her old driver's license from before the name change? Was that the reason for keeping the Nevada drop box?

Here is the timeline of getting her state id's and licenses:
  • May 20, 1988 - Jane Doe gets a copy of Becky Sue’s birth certificate from Kern County, Calif.
  • June 16, 1988 - Jane Doe obtains an Idaho ID card with her picture and Becky Sue’s name. She now has government ID “proving” she’s Becky Sue. (Idaho ID using Becky Sue Turner's name)
  • July 5, 1988 - She gets her name legally changed in a Dallas court from Becky Sue to Lori Erica Kennedy. (Document showing name legally changed to Lori Erica Kennedy) Clerk's certificate: http://oi39.tinypic.com/2wg94z9.jpg

I am new here, I too became curious about this case after reading the ST article. I was born in the mid 60's in San Francisco, and then moved to the Seattle area as a teen. I believe, like many others here, that LEK was born in the same era.

What intrigued me was the way that Jane Doe created her first identity of BST. I
say this because my own father did the same thing for something as "innocuous" as hiding from the department of support enforcement. I was a small girl, mid 70's, and my dad had some medical records sitting on the table and those records had someone else's name and birthdate on them. I asked him why that was, and he said he had to change his name because my mom was after him. Essentially, he was hiding in plain sight. My dad was a con man that was in and out of prison.

So when I was a teen I asked my dad how he managed to change his name all those years earlier. And he simply told me the same story we find here with BST. He told me that he searched the obituary pages of local newspapers for people who died young and were from a different state, send away for their birth certificate and bingo he became a new person. He was then able to apply for a new SSN etc.

The reason why I bring this up is because so many people have suggested that maybe LEK had used an identity broker. I don't believe that would have been vital to her changing her identity. Here I am, about the same age as LEK, and I had this information as a teen. My dad was part of the criminal element and he had access to this info without paying someone to do it, I just happened to observe a name change and then ask questions later. I had this information long before my 18th birthday. Another connection that I find interesting is that my dad also frequented strip joints in California during this same time period. So my guess is that our Jane Doe is/was part of the criminal element of the day.

Thanks for letting me get these thoughts down. I've also had several other thoughts and will post later.

Great info, thanks for the first post... I only think she may have had help (not sure) because she took it one step further and within the next 30 days legally changed her name from the deceased person (Becky Sue Turner) to Lori Erica Kennedy and in another state (Dallas)... I think a novice would have stayed Becky Sue.... she really tried to hide the trail
