Three women stabbed and two punched in attacks
''The attacks took place over the course of a one-and-a-half hour period while the victims were walking in south and central Belfast.

Police said a "small sharp knife" is believed to have been used.

All the women were aged between 19 and 22.

One victim was stabbed in the arm, one in the neck and one in the back of the leg.

The two women who were assaulted were punched in the head.

Police said none of their injuries are believed to be life-threatening but that it had been a "hugely traumatic experience" for the victims.''

''The male suspect, who was on a bike, was wearing dark clothing, possibly a hooded top and was possibly masked, police said.

Officers have called for anyone with information to contact them.''

"Carry your mobile phone and, the really important thing, if anybody feels unsafe or frightened, if they think something's about to happen, please dial police on 999 and we will provide an urgent response."

Ch Supt Walls said the attacker said nothing during the attacks.

Ch Supt Simon Walls said police are "taking this investigation incredibly seriously.''

''Police investigating several attacks on women in Belfast on Monday night have released an image of a man they are "urgently seeking to identify".

They said they want to talk to the man to assist them with their enquiries into the attacks.''

''It is believed the attacker in all the incidents was a man on a mountain bike who remains at large.''

''Ch Supt Simon Walls said detectives could find no link between the women who had been attacked.

"I have significant concerns that this might happen again and some of my concern is based on the fact that we don't see this sort of situation occurring in the city centre," Ch Supt Walls said.

"Our city centres are broadly safe places to live, to work and to socialise, so this is unusual for Belfast city centre."

He said extra police were in the city centre on Tuesday and that detectives were reviewing CCTV footage to try and trace the attacker.

He appealed for anyone who saw anything "no matter how small it was", to contact the police.''

Can you help us identify the male in this post?

Detectives investigating a series of incidents in which women were assaulted and stabbed in South Belfast on Monday night (12 October) urgently need to identify the male in these images.

These latest images were captured in the City Centre a short time before the first incident.

The time and location of each incident include;

· 7.42pm in Castle Place
· 7.51pm on the Ormeau Avenue between the Linenhall Street and Adelaide Street Junctions
· 8.56pm on Donegall Square West
· Between 8.56pm and 9.01pm on the Dublin Road

· 9.01pm on the University Road, near Mount Charles
· 9.03pm on the Lisburn Road near Dunluce Avenue.

We believe that each of these attacks were carried out by a male on a bicycle. He is described as wearing dark clothing, possibly wearing a hooded top, cycling a mountain bike which may have a light coloured frame and reflectors on the spokes. We believe the man may have been wearing a black mask and carrying a backpack.

We are again appealing to any drivers who were in the city centre on Monday, who have yet to review any dash cam footage, and for any business owners in the relevant areas to review their CCTV and to contact us if they have any information that could help.

If you witnessed any of these incidents, but have yet to speak with us, please contact detectives on the non-emergency number 101 or submit a report online using our non-emergency reporting form via Online Incident You can also contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online at

Wow, regret and apology, that almost never happens!
''Defence solicitor Brian Archer said his client was not making an application for bail.

He added: "Mr McIlveen has made full admissions to all offences during interview.

"He has expressed extreme regret and remorse, and offers apologies to the victims."

District Judge John Meehan remanded Mr McIlveen in custody to appear again on 13 November''
