BP Oil Spill Approaching Gulf Coast

This is a crisis, I want to see our President getting the best help from all over the world.
I don't want to view films of him golfing, or going to a party or worrying about what someone said about him, I want action on this spill and not action to benefit any of his programs or the oil companies. This should be a priority and everyone should take note.

I am very sad about the animals also, many will die.

Ughh, I am getting so confused with the two threads on the oil...so forgive me if this video has already been posted...

Good oil spill news for the Keys, good for Florida’s East Coast too- trajectory forecasts suspended
http://www.examiner.com/x-29653-Flo...t-too-trajectory-forecasts-suspended#comments
<snipped>
The latest observation has the Loop Current detached from the Gulf Stream so the danger of passing around the south end of Florida and up the East Coast does not currently exist. In response to these conditions NOAA has suspended oil spill trajectory forecasts as the threat to the Keys has faded.

Billy Causey, superintendent of the southeast region for NOAA National Marine Sanctuaries, explains that the Loop Current has been pinched off into a large clockwise eddy called the Eddy Franklin, leaving no clear path for the spilled oil to enter the Loop Current.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Situation: June 23, 2010
OR&R’s modeling team continues to generate daily trajectories for the nearshore surface oil. The offshore trajectory maps (previously displayed on this page, showing oil interacting with the Loop Current) have been temporarily suspended because the northern end of the Loop Current has been pinched off into a large eddy (Eddy Franklin) so there is no clear path for oil to enter the Loop Current from the source. Also, there have been no reports of recoverable oil in the Loop Current or Eddy Franklin and the oil has moved to the North and away from the Eddy Franklin. We will continue to monitor the area with overflights, vessel observations, and satellite analysis. When the threat of shoreline impacts to the Florida Keys increases, we will resume producing the offshore trajectory maps.

The Loop Current is an area of warm water that comes up from the Caribbean, flowing past the Yucatan Peninsula and into the Gulf of Mexico. It generally curves east across the Gulf and then flows south parallel to the west Florida coast. An eddy is water that rotates.

If anyone knows of a charity that the money will go directly to help the marine life and the birds of the gulf, please let me know. I am going to have a yard sale that I want to donate the proceeds and talk my neighbors into at least donating a percentage of their earnings. TIA...ps, no government affiliated agencies allowed for obvious reasons.

The Nature Conservancy might be a good choice.

This poor guy has been fighting tooth and nail for some Action!
I feel so bad for him and I'm afraid he's going to have a nervous breakdown, he never seems to take any time for himself.
OBAMA - Don't you realize what's happening to our Country?
And, that bubbling, boiling surf in FL is downright scary!

I agree whiteangora, I sent Billy Nungusser a message on FB last week telling him he is my 'Hero' and we need him to take care of himself! I am concerned for his health due to all the risks from being overweight and then adding this enormous amount of stress...he is the voice for the Gulf and we honestly need him!!!

Here's one I posted last week. The Larry King telethon raised $1.5 million Monday night for this organization. The yard sale is a wonderful idea.

This is what's happening at ground zero with BP!! :banghead:

Report: BP Pursues Risky Alaska Drilling
Plan is to Drill Off Alaska Coast About Two Miles Down; Project Deemed "Onshore" by Loophole

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2010/06/24/national/main6614129.shtml
<snipped>
(CBS/ AP) The New York Times reports that BP is moving forward with a drilling plan to drill two miles under the sea and then "six to eight miles horizontally" off the coast of Alaska. The goal is 100 million barrels of oil.

BP's project has been exempted from the Obama offshore drilling moratorium by regulators because it's been granted onshore status. The project, though three miles off the Alaska coast, sits atop an artificial island built by BP, according to the New York Times.
OMG!! Is there any sanity left in this world?? :banghead:

I came here to post this today...really burns me up.

I'm so exhausted by all of this and I just want it to go away.

The Wildlife Sanctuary of Northwest Florida is actively involved in rescuing animals from the oil spill. I have volunteered with them before and they are a great organization!

Pensacola Beach is closed after oil from Gulf spill washes ashore

Published: Thursday, June 24, 2010, 8:12 PM Updated: Thursday, June 24, 2010, 8:24 PM

Florida's Pensacola Beach was closed to visitors for the first time because of the Gulf oil spill Thursday as workers tried to remove pools of black sludge from Pensacola Beach's once-white sands.
