Windsor pro boxer still missing after 2 1/2 years
After 2 1/2 years, there are still no leads into the disappearance of Windsor professional boxer Bradley Jeffries.
Jeffries’s friend, Joe Clark, started searching for the former boxer — who once held international and national titles — after not hearing from him in months. Some people feared that Jeffries may have fallen asleep in a dumpster and its contents were disposed of.

In an August 2015 interview with the Star, Clark said Jeffries had battled addictions with drugs and alcohol for years. He was often seen wandering around downtown or grabbing a cup of coffee at the Street Help Homeless Centre on Wyandotte Street East. Clark has known Jeffries for more than 25 years.

There was something familiar about the disheveled man Mary Spencer passed on the street a few months ago.

He was shambling down Wyandotte Street, homeless and destitute, pushing a grocery cart full of salvaged dumpster items. As he got closer, she barely recognized the man whose passion for boxing helped inspire her to an Olympic career.

Brad Jeffries, who, in his own pugilistic prime, competed for national and international titles, was clearly downtrodden and showing the physical ravages of a hard life.

“It was worse than I’d ever seen him,” Spencer said of that chance encounter. “He had just gotten beaten up, jumped by four guys and he couldn’t talk right because his jaw wouldn’t open properly. He was in bad shape. It was devastating.”
For all his skill at giving and taking punches inside the ropes, and an upbringing in a well-to-do household, Jeffries struggled to win the fight against substance abuse.

More than once, Jeffries has been the target of street ****s looking to boast about pummelling a professional boxer.

“He’s very gullible and trusting of others,” Haslett said. “He’s exceptionally generous
In 1988, the up-and-coming 24-year-old had a tantalizing 9-1 record and a title fight for the Canadian lightweight championship at Windsor Arena.

Bold and brash, he was a media darling with a flair for delivering a punchline as well as a right cross.
