On a fall afternoon in 2008, a 12-year-old girl arrived home from school and discovered her father and 9-year-old sister shot to death inside the family’s Hollywood apartment.
Eighteen months later, on Friday night, the girl came home to an empty apartment. She got worried when her mother didn’t come home from work, so the girl walked down to the carport looking for her.
There, she found the body of Karine Hakobyan, 38, slumped in her Honda CRV, with a gunshot wound to the back of the head. On Monday, a team of Los Angeles police detectives were trying to piece together the three killings, which occurred a few blocks from each other in Hollywood’s Little Armenia district.
Detectives believe the killings are connected but declined to provide more details.

A woman was shot and killed in the carport of a Hollywood apartment complex more than a year after her husband and young daughter were slain in attacks that police said Monday appeared to be connected.
Karine Hakobyan, 38, a nursing assistant at Children's Hospital, was found Friday behind the wheel of her Honda CRV with a gunshot wound to the back of her head.
Detectives investigating the killing of her husband Khachik Safaryan, 43, and their 8-year-old daughter Lucine said there appeared to be a link to the crimes.
"We're working on a theory that was developed in the previous homicides," police Detective Dan Myers said.
He did not provide further details but said none of the victims had any criminal associations.

That is my guess too, Laece. That poor girl, I cannot imagine the pain she is in! My heart goes out to her. I hope she has other family to stay with instead of being stuck with strangers.

Wow! Poor girl. Her guardian angel must be working overtime. She is so lucky and blessed to be alive.

I'm wondering if the younger girl was home sick and they "had" to take her too, as she was a witness....as the older daughter was at school.

The victims are found by another daughter returning home from school. Police have no motive or suspects.

Although not much, the below article gives more info. New car found blocks away. Child was found on sofa and father in other room. They were seen alive earlier that day.

Double Homicide Saddens Hollywood

UPDATE

On Feb. 24, 2009, a press conference was held at Parker Center to announce a reward of up to $75,000 offered through District 13 Los Angeles City Councilman Eric Garcetti's Office for information leading to the arrest of the suspects responsible for the murders of Lusine Safaryan and Khachik Safaryan as described below in the original press release about the murders dated Dec. 12, 2008.

Los Angeles: Los Angeles detectives are asking for the public’s help in locating suspect(s) or providing any information related to a double homicide in the Hollywood area.

On December 11, 2008, Officers responded to 1200 block of Tamarind Ave at approximately 3:15 pm to a double homicide. The victims have been identified as 8-year-old Lusine Safaryan and her father, Khachik Safaryan, age 43-years-old. A 15-year-old family member discovered the bodies and contacted 911.

Well no theory, no public comments from family, no comments posted on articles.

Are there ex spouses? Is Khachik the 15 year olds father? Who benefits from slaying this family? This would be a long drawn out way to get to an inheritance. But...did anyone have life insurance on these people?

Well, one would hope police puts this child into some sort of protection program, since they appear to not know who did it and why, and she is the only one left of her family. Is it some sort of vendetta?

Does anyone know what the dads profession is? Just a thought, since there is not a theory yet. I am curious to know if the dad might have owed some bad guys some money? I may be way off here, but just trying to imagine why they killed him AND the little girl...this is so sad. I sure hope the killer is found soon.

I'm sorry, they come here from Armenia in 2003, and although LE is saying there are no known ties to criminal activity, this entire family is being taken out one by one. Makes me think that either they were up to something bad or maybe someone just thought they were.

Don't quote my flu addled brain, but I think the father was a butcher, and the mother somewhere in health care. I'm too tired to find the link, I think it's at the very first one in the thread.
