I really wish the reports were more specific about where in natomas he might’ve been going (north/south) because it makes a huge difference where he might’ve hopped off the trail and where to be looking for him
Welcome (love the username). How did you hear about this case? Are people locally clued into it at all yet?

We can't discuss comments on FB posts or news articles but sometimes they provide some clues. There are over a 100 comments on the post below. MOO

People at my work were talking about it (a coworker had a sibling (or cousin?) who worked with him). And there was a huge reddit post about it. I read websleuths often but didn’t see a post on here yet so made one. I will say it hasn’t been on the local news site that I usually check and only the one posted so far so I’m not sure how widespread it is

I'm leaning towards him being injured/mugged/whatever on his walk--and praying that he is safely located very soon.

But just noting that several local news stories are noting that he works at the local Amazon fulfillment center--and more than a few comments are saying that they should interview all the associates involved with him at work.

Makes me wonder what really goes on at the fulfillment centers.

I don’t think this is nearly as complicated as that, nor do I think this involves foul play.

This sort of thing happens all the time. Someone about Holden’s age has an argument after drinking, and walks off.

The odds of someone he worked with targeting him at that time of the morning, and under those conditions (getting that lucky), would be extremely unlikely.

I’ve followed a few cases where this sort of thing happened at sporting events and bars (argument and someone walked off), and I don’t see this as being any different.

Unfortunately those cases involved water, which is my fear here.

Holden’s girlfriend, Kennedi Perri, said she last saw him leaving their midtown Sacramento apartment on I Street near 22nd Street just before 2:30 am Tuesday.

“And went out with some of his friends, just gotten back from the bar,” Perri explained. “I had to be up early, so he did wake me up. So we had some conversation.”

Holden told her he was going to walk to a friend’s house in Natomas to spend the night. She believes he was heading toward the Sacramento Northern Bikeway trail before his phone died.

“He’s a long-distance marathon runner so he has done that trail before and he used to live in Natomas, so it all kind of connects."

BBM I figured as much. IMO he woke her up unintentionally and they argued, because who just decides to walk 2 hours through Sacramento in the middle of the night to sleep at a friend's? No one. I'm not trying to blame her, but his state of mind + alcohol is really concerning.

I am with you here-she is withholding that they argued, in my opinion...because it would make her look bad (and a lot of people do that; it’s natural, but not at all helpful). I’m not judging his girlfriend because I know she’s really worried about him. I wish he hadn’t gone out in the middle of the night to take a 2 hour long trek. He didn’t have any other place to crash that was closer?

I just followed the Sacramento Northern Bikeway--dark and decidedly sketchy from midtown to North Sacramento. He'd have had to cut off of the bike trail probably at El Camino to head east to South Natomas. That's through Northgate--just as sketchy, particularly at night.

I can't get the Bikeway to come up on Google Street View, but the Jedediah Smith trail does (similar and nearby) and I could see no available lighting and numerous tents in the bushes.

Not hearing anything locally yet.

Edit: This is the assumed route that he might have taken--it's the one he normally took in the daytime.

  • 23rd & I to 16th & I

  • 16th & I to 16th & C St until Capitol Casino

  • Down Dreher Street to the Sacramento Northern Bikeway

  • Cross Pipe’s Bridge following Sac N. Bikeway

  • Left onto Jedediah Smith Trail

  • Follow either Garden Hwy or Northview Dr to get to Nino’s Parkway Trail until Hazel Strauch Elementary School.

One possible route: Alex Holden - Google My Maps

Some concerning areas:

1. Entrance to Sacramento Northern Bike Way from behind the casino. Connects to train trestle bridge. Both go over the American River.

2. Once across the river, the trail cuts through a wooded park and under a couple bridges. Probably extremely unsafe, poorly lit and out of sight.

3. If he connected to the Jedediah Smith Memorial Trail to take the more direct route to his assumed destination, he would have had to cut over to Northgate Blvd to cross over the creek OR he could have tried to cross it and walk up the hill. Where put the marker is only a logical crossing since it is where the trail leads and seems shallow.

4. This entire area is a gang zone run by Varrio Northgate which is part of the Norteno syndicate.

I didn't even think about the gangs--the Norteños are not to be messed with. I was thinking more about some of the homeless with mental health issues that have attacked people on the trails.
