Well-known civil rights attorney John Burris said this afternoon that one of the caretakers for a missing 5-year-old Fremont boy with cerebral palsy will take a polygraph test, while the other will not because she is six months pregnant.

Why can't pregnant woman take polygraph tests? I heard that some states make it illegal to test pregnant women -- but don't know why. Is it the stress?

Police Say It's Not Unusual No One Saw Hassani Campbell's Disappearance

Oakland police say there's no evidence five-year old Hassani Campbell's disappearance is the result of any kind of domestic dispute.

KRON 4's Mark Jones talked with a neighbor who says he was home at the time the child vanished from behind the "Shuz of Rockridge" shoe store on College Avenue. The neighbor says he didn't see or hear anything.

Police say it's not that unusual to have no witnesses to this kind of incident.

"We have had cases before in the past, not just in Oakland but in other jurisdictions, where abductions have occurred and no one saw it even in very populated areas," Oakland Police Sgt. Raymond Backman told KRON 4's Mark Jones.

"Have you talked to the biological mother?" Mark asked.

"We've identified the biological parents and I believe we have spoken to all of them," Sgt. Backman said.

Police Search Park Near Missing Child’s Home in Fremont

Fremont police searched a park in North Fremont this morning near the home of missing five-year-old Hassani Campbell, but there have been no new developments in the case, said Sgt. Chris Mazzone, a spokesperson with the Fremont Police dept.

Karl Nordvik Park is located a few blocks away from Hassani’s home in the 5900 block of Roxie Terrace, Fremont.

The missing boy, who has cerebral palsy, disappeared from a parked car near the 6000 block of College Ave around 4:15 p.m Monday, according to his foster father, Louis Ross, who contacted the police.

So far, the police said, the investigation is only based on information provided by Ross, who was responsible for the child when he disappeared.

Ross told police he parked his car near Shuz of Rockridge (6012 College Ave), where his fiancé, Jennifer Campbell, Hassani’s aunt and foster mother, works. Police said Ross told them he went into the store to open a back door so his disabled son could enter more easily, but when he returned to the car, the boy was gone.

I think this is strange......

On the video, Ross says.......(in part)

".......On this particular day I had to be, um, at an earlier appointment so I had to be there, um, a little bit earlier than usual. I was running behind, and I pulled in (buh)...ultimately pulled in in the, um, parking lot behind the store, and like we normally do I opened up Hassani's door, um, and Hassani undid his car seat as he always does, and I said Hassani go wait by the back door. (big sigh) I then went and got his sister and walked with her to the front of the store and asked Jennifer to unlock the back door. Um, we do that not to, so we don't cause disruption to their store, me pushing in a stroller with kids and bringing in another infant in the middle of a work day for her. Um, when we got to the back door um Jennifer looked at me and said where's Hassani and I'm like what do you mean where's Hassani? I looked over to his side of the car and he wasn't there. At that point in time, um, I put (undecipherable) in the crib and she was placed in the store and we went looking for Hassani and at that point in time I ran to the car to get my phone to call the police and report a missing child. (off camera it's asked how much time he thought elapsed between getting out of the car and discovering Hassani gone) Um, it's about five minutes a little, probably less than that. (off camera reporter says 'right then, that had to be shocking) It's, I ran there, thinking....it's one of those instances as a parent you kinda take something for granted thinking it can never happen to you. Hassani does not wander away....."

BBM.....is it me, or does the way he says this, the way he corrects himself, tell you that he's remembering that he did something else he's ommiting before he pulled in behind the store? WTF does 'ultimately' mean if what he did, according to him, was routine?? Or, do I need to lay off the coffee?

The comment he made about 'Hassani does not wander away'...when he said it on the video, just the way he said it, it made my blood run cold. I believe I saw someone who knew Hassani wouldn't wander away because Hassani would be afraid of the consequences if he did. That and I think he's talking in circles, IMO.

This portion is right up in front on the 17 minute video with dear old Dad. Watch it if you haven't and tell me what you think of those portions BBM.

No jumping to conclusions for me. Even LE is looking at a landfill. This baby is no longer with us...RIP

Okay, I know I am probably going to feel stupid later for saying this, but the video of Ross made me feel less strongly that he was involved. I still do not see any real alternative scenario, but I feel torn now. Did anybody else have that reaction, or is it just that it is late and I am tired?
He is obviously very intellectual, and the only parts where I felt a little hinky is when he was being more emotional. He did seem to have some real emotion for Hassani, but I felt it was more legitimate when it dealt with the pride he felt for Hassani's development.
I hope some developments happen tomorrow on this case, because whether good or bad, Hassani needs to be found.

Homicide Detectives Working On Missing 5-Year-Old Case

A source told KTVU Wednesday night that homicide detectives have been brought into the investigation of five-year-old Hassani Campbell’s disappearance Monday afternoon.

Burris described the couple as being surprised by the focus of the investigation as law enforcement conducted an extensive search of their Fremont home Tuesday.

Burris said Ross agreed to take a polygraph test scheduled for sometime Wednesday, while Campbell would not take the take one because of concerns that the test could affect her pregnancy.

"He was more than willing to take a polygraph, but I did advise him that taking the polygraph is not necessarily foolproof," said Burris. "It is not uncommon to have a false negative."

Police told KTVU that -- despite combing the Rockridge area for witnesses two nights running -- they still have not found anyone who saw Ross with the little boy before he disappeared.

On Wednesday, the foster parents did not open the door of their home in Fremont that police searched the previous night, nor did they return phone calls.

Fremont police spent Wednesday morning searching with dogs within a mile of the house for any sign of Hasani Campbell. They looked in parks, drainage ditches, abandoned houses and dumpsters.

One officer told KTVU police have alerted landfills in Alameda County to be alert for a body. Hasani Campbell is just three feet tall and weighs only 30 pounds.

Hassani's Grandmother Says Child is Sweet, Smart, & Loves Sponge Bob

Hassani Campbell's grandmother describes the missing child as an intelligent, impressionable child who loves the cartoon character Sponge Bob.

Pamela Clark is urging whoever may have the child to let Hassani go free.

"Please let him come home," Clark told reporters. "Please let him go."

"He's a very sweet, affectionate boy," Clark said. "He's very intelligent, very smart, he loves Sponge Bob, he's just an impressionable child."

Clark says Hassani can speak with a slight lisp. She says it's possible he wandered away since he can walk even without his leg braces but not very quickly.

Foster father: Hasanni has no leg braces
Tuesday, August 11, 2009
<snipped>

Holy cow! That's a huge discrepancy from earlier reports! Thanks, Angel, for posting this... it's unacceptable to have a child missing (when every minute counts) and have the issue of whether or not he wears legs braces still up in the air, or reported incorrectly.

Best,

Mel

I'm guessing a good polygraph specialist could adjust for anything - but, perhaps there isn't enough data on pregnant lady hormones for them to know if the test would be accurate?

But it's likely that they wouldn't want to take the chance of her having a crisis in their office as she's pretty far along. The lawsuit might be pretty major.

Confusion on facts once again. Geeze. So was he in the car or not, now I'm taking it that he supposedly walked to the door, now no leg braces.....LE doesn't think he's around....I'll go with that. Hinky meter way up. Let's just hope he is found and that someone is brought to justice.

This guy sounds believable to me. Hopefully, LE will get somewhere with this investigation today. This boy needs to be found!

Why the change in the leg braces story?

Maybe LE found the braces at the home or the store, so the story had to change? Still reading, trying to catch up.

Sadly, I think this case was over before it ever began, so to speak, at least as far as a missing case.

Q. Who should not take a Polygraph test?

Anyone who is being forced to take it. Polygraphs are VOLUNTARY.
Any person who is fatigued or has not had at least 6 hours of sleep in the past 24 hours.
Any person with a serious heart condition, nerve damage, paralysis or serious medical ailment unless his/her doctor has given written approval. Each case will be evaluated by the examiner.
A pregnant woman. Under most states rules and regulations, pregnant women cannot be examined regardless of where they are in the pregnancy.
Any person who is determined to be mentally incompetent.
Any person who has a respiratory illness or cold.

http://www.floridapolygraphliedetector.com/faq.htm

Can a pregnant woman be tested? (back to top)

It does not affect the outcome of a polygraph exam to test a pregnant woman unless the fetus is making excessive movements or causing pain to the mother during the exam. Many examiners will not test a pregnant woman under any circumstances, but others are ok with testing after the first tri-mester. Some examiners will test only with a note from the woman's physician stating that there are no complications from the pregnancy and that the stress of taking a polygraph would not impact the health of the mother or fetus.

LDT's and pregnancy, sorry if it's already up.

I am really torn about who I think is responsible. I'm not sure if I understand the circumstances of Hassani's disappearance, but it sounds like "foster dad" may have had Hassani out of the car and it looks like an alley/service area behind the store where Hassani may have been instructed to wait for the back service door could be opened for Hassani to go in. Anyway, I guess I kind of look back at the abduction of Adam Walsh at a mall and don't think it's impossible that Hassani could have been abducted. One of the newscasts mentioned him being friendly IIRC, a stranger could have wandered up and grabbed him? It happens, in broad daylight, in the middle of busy places and no one sees anything, I'm not sure it's impossible in this case either.

Praying for Hassani's safe return.

(Also, biomom said that Hassani's biofather is not in the picture, do we know his whereabouts?)

Sadly, I think this case was over before it ever began, so to speak, at least as far as a missing case.

It sounded like the leg braces were mentioned and they were trying to clearly describe them later. Maybe when Hassani was reported missing, the foster parents said, "he wears braces on his legs" and the description is not quite so clear as the later "his braces are more like orthotic devices and fit under his clothes". It sounded like clarification IMO.

Does anyone know where the BMW was actually parked. Was it in the driveway behind the store, on the road behind the store or in front of the shop. TIA

The car was parked by the backdoor in the driveway. I posted a picture of it a pg or two back of it. The door is on the left in the driveway!
