Both women died of gunshot wounds. The bodies of former school principal Jennifer DuPras, 55, and her mother Cynthia Houk, 88, were found Dec. 11 in their home. There was no evidence of forced entry or signs that anything had been stolen.

DuPras had recently divorced her husband of 31 years and was living with her mother. Investigators searched the Kingsburg home that DuPras had intermittently shared with her ex-husband, Alan DuPras. He was questioned and had several firearms taken from the home, but investigators found no probable cause to arrest him.

Dupras formally charged with double murder - has family tie with Fresno DA’s office

September 26, 2018

"A Kingsburg man charged with killing his estranged wife and her mother is related to a senior official in the Fresno County District Attorney’s Office, but prosecutors on Wednesday said they were “not aware” of any conflicts of interest in the case.

Fresno prosecutors also on Wednesday formally charged Alan Dupras with two counts of murder in connection with the Dec. 11, 2017, shooting deaths of Jennifer Dupras, 55, and Cynthia Houk, 88. His arraignment is scheduled for Thursday morning...."

Alan DuPras pleads not guilty to murder and arson charges

FRESNO, Calif. --
The man accused of murdering his estranged wife and her mother, 58-year old Alan DuPras, has plead not guilty to murder, arson and vandalism charges.
[.....]
Dupras has denied being anywhere near the scene of the crime but detectives found surveillance footage, showing what appears to be his truck in the area.

If convicted, Dupras faces a potential sentence of either death, or life in prison without the possibility of parole.

The judge ordered no bail for DuPras stating that he was a "danger to the community."

He is expected to be back in court on October 8th.

A Daughter's Fight for Justice for Slayings of Her Mom & Grandma That Led to Her Dad's Arrest

"When Alison Dupras learned that her mother and grandmother had been found dead in December — both fatally shot at home and left for days — the name of the killer came immediately to mind.

“I know that my father did this, I knew that as soon as I knew what had happened,” Alison tells PEOPLE. “I knew it right away. Right then and there, I knew.”

She even confronted dad Alan Dupras and implored him to turn himself in, but to no avail. “That’s all I wanted was for him to confess, either to me or to the authorities,” Alison says, “and I just knew that wasn’t going to happen.”..."

Coverup, family ties are reason to disqualify Fresno DA from double murder trial, defense says

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A Kingsburg man accused of murdering his wife and her mother is trying to kick the district attorney's office off the case because of his family ties to the upper echelon of the prosecutors' office, and Fresno County Sheriff's investigators alleged a cover-up during the investigation into the double murder.
[.....]
They got a warrant to search his Kingsburg home a few hours later and monitored his movements for months before the Fresno County district attorney's office charged Alan Dupras with the murders.

But the complicated family dynamic included an extra twist: Dupras' cousin, Jeff, is one of the top attorneys in the D.A.'s office.
[.....]
But in a motion to disqualify the district attorney's office from prosecuting the case, Dupras' attorney says the office may be biased against him.

For one, he says the office refused to prosecute the person who attacked Dupras in jail, leaving him with a bandaged black eye for his first court appearance.
[.....]
The decision on whether there is a conflict will be up to a judge and they're scheduled for a hearing in two weeks.

Must read article for more complications of relatives....

The court site show next hearing on 9/27, but I see the articles says a hearing in 2 weeks. If anyone finds a date - please post! TIA!

Oops - missed a court date - another one coming up though.... read from bottom up.

Kingsburg double murder suspect deteriorating physically, now mentally incompetent to stand trial

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- The Kingsburg man accused of killing his estranged wife and her mom may never get out of custody, but not because of a conviction.

A judge found Alan Dupras mentally incompetent Wednesday, meaning he'll go to a state mental hospital soon.
[.....]
Court-appointed psychiatrist Dr. Howard Terrell says his mental condition has deteriorated to the point where he doesn't know what's happening.

Dupras had an empty look on his face Wednesday and rolled his head occasionally, but didn't converse with anyone. He needed help to stand up.
[.....]
The psychiatrist said Dupras needs a neurological exam to figure out the root cause and whether he can ever regain his mental competency.
[.....]
A judge decided to put the case on hold and send Dupras to a state mental hospital in five weeks, which means he'll go to a mental hospital, but he won't go free.

"The public's going to be protected," said legal analyst Tony Capozzi. "He's going to be in the medical facility until he's found to be competent again, brought back, put on trial."

But for now, it's justice delayed: No new evidence revealed in court, no change of venue motion, and no trial unless his mental status improves.
