I see so many murder trials where the accused has their children try to save their sorry arses. I detest it every time I see them do it.

It makes me detest this one too even more than I already do. Gah.

It’s nauseating to read as I have no doubt she is lying. So convenient she happened to see the phone ring and she even registered who it was. Because at 15 years of age I am sure she was so intrigued by who was calling her father daily.

IMO

Yeah, all three CM, girlfriend and daughter were standing by CMs phone to see his phone ring. Like this is believable. I guess someone wanting him to be innocent would believe this crap!!

Javis says she recalls being in a movie theater on February 4th. But prosecutors says she recalls her dad, Merritt, getting a call he ignored. And that the argument was about the call he didn't take from McStay.

her statement makes no sense - why would merritt and CJ get into an hours long argument over him ignoring a call from his business partner? Seems like the prosecution poked some pretty big holes in her story. She is trying to save him but the jury will see right through her - especially if she came off as hostile on cross exam.

THIS: " She has sat thru some of the testimony and her dad has filled her in during her visits to him"
I would completely ignore her testimony after this statement if I were a juror.

Prosecution asks Javis what she has read on this case. Javis is a criminal justice major at the moment. Prosecution asks if she read a People magazine article. Javis earlier she testified she had not. She asks for transcript and recalls she did but can't recall content of article

Javis told investigators her dad gambled at the casino. He was a good poker player. He went to the casino sometimes to gamble to make money for car payments. Her parents argued about money because he would put a lot of money back in the business not over gambling

Prosecutor asking how much Javis prepared to testify. She said a few hours. During preparation she listened to audio. She has sat thru some of the testimony and her dad has filled her in during her visits to him.

Okay. So his girlfriend is still "with him". Guess we can forget about her testifying against him.

She and her mom visit Merritt on Sundays. On one visit her mom said her dad only came back with winnings on one occasion from the casino.

Prosecution is asking if Javis is aware phone conversations are recorded. Javis says yes.

We are taking a break for morning recess.

I don't recall CJ or CM ever mentioning that one of their children was there by the phone?
Funny how Leticia keeps posting "Javis" instead of "Jarvis!

OT: Got a neighbor picking up oxytocin from the vet in town, we are mudded in so vet would get stuck, expecting foal this evening if mare keeps progressing, 2nd time she's ran neck and neck with April the giraffe, lol!

Deputy District Attorney Melissa Rodriguez is back to cross examine Sara Jarvis, Chase Merritt's daughter. Rodriguez asked is she is helping the defense team. She says yes because she interested in the work they do. She is going to law school in the Fall.

Jarvis testifies she has taken part in a documentary about her dad. Rodriguez asked if she has been paid. Jarvis says she was reimbursed gas for her participation. Defense objects to Rodriguez asking who will profit from this. An argument has ensued. They are approaching bench.

Next since I believe that CM is the killer.

I want to see the defense

A. Provide the “real” person that forged JM’s name on check/checks that were deposited into CM’s bank account. Super nice of whoever did it. I won’t hold my breath.

I feel a teensy bit sad for the daughter. She wants to believe her daddy is not a quadruple murderer. Sad.

I can feel empathy for her but that bit about knowing of the phone call that never came (and an all night argument over it) - when in her first statement she was either at the theater or club house watching a movie? A criminal justice major should know better than to try to rewrite history from the witness stand.

They obviously had a riveting home life :D

Seems so. It seems the highlight of their day is all standing around Dad's phone waiting for it to ring.

If this is how the defense case is going to progress then it might as well be an extension of the state's case.

Imo she was a gold mine for the state, and a complete failure for the defense.

I feel sorry for her even though its obvious she's lying.

The jury knows family members of the accused have a vested interest in the outcome.

CM should be ashamed of using his own daughter, but he isn't. Imo he will use his own family as easily as he uses others.
