"Alleged serial killer John Arthur Getreu was convicted of killing and raping a 15-year-old girl in Germany in 1964, a decade before the strangled bodies of two young women he is now accused of killing were found on Stanford University land, the brother of the murdered teenager testified on Tuesday."

John Arthur Getreu has been convicted of first-degree murder and a special allegation of infliction of great bodily injury:

"After a two-week trial and nearly 50 years of sorrow for the family of Janet Ann Taylor, John Getreu has been convicted of murdering the 21-year-old La Honda resident on Stanford University property."

I'm glad that today's outcome provided some justice for Janet and her loved ones. Next step is getting some justice for Leslie as well. According to this ABC News article, her case will be tried next year.

5/19/21: Attorneys for John Arthur Getreu, 75, who is accused of killing two young women on Stanford land in the 1970s, filed the request for the hearing before the high court on April 6. The case seeks to toss out DNA evidence collected from a discarded coffee cup that allegedly links Getreu to the crimes because police didn't obtain a warrant for the DNA evidence. After rejections from the appellate court and San Mateo County Superior Court, it's now in the state Supreme Court's hands to decide whether it will hear the motion. Next trial setting hearing on 8/4/21.
8/4/21 Update: Hearing was held. Next trial setting hearing on 10/27/21.

I really don't understand "why" Santa Clara County is going to spend $$ on his trial for Leslie - he's good as gone (to prison)! :)
