BAKERSFIELD, CALIF. (KBAK/KBFX) — The Bakersfield Police Department is asking for the community’s help finding a missing 14-year-old girl last seen in southwest Bakersfield.
Nanyamka Delaney was last seen in the 2900 block of Gosford Road on June 21st, 2023, at 10:00 p.m.
Her father spoke with Eyewitness News Friday afternoon and he doesn't believe she ran away. He thinks she might be with someone she knows.
He said she has a debit card that hasn't been used which leads them to believe she's being taken care of.
We reached out to the Bakersfield Police Department for an update on the search for Nanyamka they confirmed she is still considered missing by law enforcement.
They sent a statement that reads in part: "Regardless of the use of the term "runaway," everyone is flagged in missing person databases and investigated the same."
Police consider Nanyamka at risk due to her not having a prior history of running away.
The family said they hope an Amber Alert is issued soon. They believe that will encourage whoever has her to return home.
In Kern County Amber Alerts are issued by the California High Patrol and only if they meet certain criteria like:
- It has been confirmed that an abduction has occurred, or the child has been taken by anybody including, but not limited to, parents and/or guardians.
- The victim is 17 years of age or younger, or of proven mental or physical disability.
- There is reason to believe the victim is in imminent danger of serious bodily injury or death.
- There is information available that, if disseminated to the general public, could assist in the safe recovery of the victim.
Nanyamka is described as:
- 14 years old
- 5’6” tall
- 110 pounds
- Black hair and brown eyes
- Was last seen wearing a red hooded sweatshirt, light blue pants, and white tennis shoes
