ENID, Okla. — A 51-year-old man is facing multiple charges following the sexual assault and homicide of a 2-year-old.

Michael Scott Geiger was charged on Friday afternoon with felony counts of first-degree murder, first-degree rape, kidnapping and first-degree burglary.

A motion to hold Geiger without bond was filed, and Geiger appeared at the Garfield County Court House before Special District Judge Brian Lovell at 3 p.m. Friday.

Geiger’s bond was denied. His next court appearance is scheduled for 1:15 p.m. on June 6.

Geiger had been convicted in 1995 on charges of unauthorized use of a vehicle, robbery with firearms and kidnapping in Oklahoma County and was released from Oklahoma Department of Corrections custody on March 29, 2022.

Caliyah’s grandfather, Kevin “Charlie” Brown, said he and Caliyah went to the hotel’s ice machine and were approached by a man who asked if Caliyah wanted any chips or candy, which Brown said she could. Brown also said Geiger said Caliyah was pretty, the affidavit states.

Brown, Caliyah, her mother Chelsea Guyton and her father Cody Buckingham later went to the hotel’s swimming pool before returning to their room, and Brown said he fell asleep between 8:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. with Caliyah, Guyton and Buckingham all still in the room, according to the affidavit.

Buckingham said he and Guyton had gone to the room where Geiger, whom they met earlier in the day, was staying. According to the motion to hold without bond filed in the case, evidence suggests Geiger, Buckingham and Guyton consumed alcohol and methamphetamine.

-

According to the affidavit, Buckingham knocked on one of Geiger’s doors, which opened, but nobody was inside. Buckingham then knocked on the door to Geiger’s other room, but there was no answer.

The woman suggested Geiger may have gone to the pool, so the three walked toward the pool and found Caliyah. According to the affidavit, Buckingham pulled Caliyah out and attempted to perform CPR.

According to the affidavit, Buckingham said Geiger made a comment earlier in the day that Caliyah “was cute” but “too young.” He also said there were two keycards to their room and that he had one while Brown had the other.

-

During the investigation, EPD detectives located a pair of orange Texas Longhorns shorts — the pair that had been wrapped around Caliyah’s neck — and found two keycards, which both opened one of Geiger’s two rooms, in the pocket of the shorts.

The affidavit states in Geiger’s other room, police found a “noticeable amount” of blood on the bed and on the floor; a pair of girls’ underwear on the floor with blood on the inside; a homemade adult sex toy, used for “manual stimulation on typically male subjects,” which contained a sock which matched another found in Geiger’s other room and had blood and fluid consistent with semen inside; a pair of girls’ capri pants and a headband; a pair of Champion underwear matching pairs found in the other room; and a pink studded earring on the bed matching Caliyah’s missing earring.

When detectives turned on the television, the Nicktoons channel, which is “geared toward a younger audience,” was on, according to the affidavit.

In Geiger’s other room, detectives found a juice bottle matching others found in the room Caliyah’s family was staying in, along with gummy worms placed on the bed in a “nature that wouldn’t suggest the candy was accidentally spilt,” describing the candy as being placed on the bed “as if to possibly entice a child,” according to the affidavit.

Geiger denied sexually assaulting and killing Caliyah, but admitted he spoke with and offered chips and candy to her earlier in the day.

At some in the evening, Geiger offered Caliyah’s mother, Chelsea Guyton $5,000 to “spend 24 hours with him.”

“Although she refused, [Caliyah’s] parents located a woman in Enid who agreed to spend time with [Geiger],” court documents read.

Caliyah’s parents then left the hotel to retrieve the woman some time before midnight.

A short time later, Caliyah’s grandmother arrived at the hotel after work and noticed the family’s hotel room door slightly ajar. However, believing Caliyah’s parents were in custody of the child, she went inside and remained in the room.

At 11:47 p.m., Geiger was seen leaving the hotel wearing gloves and holding a pillow case. The front desk clerk thought this behavior strange and told a maintenance coworker about the encounter.

That worker told authorities he went upstairs and noticed Geiger moving away from his occupied room with what he thought was a baby doll.

Upon search of Geiger’s rooms, officers found “a very bloody scene,” with clothing items belonging to Caliyah about the room.

Prosecutors say the room looked to have “clearly been staged to lure [Caliyah] as it had gummy worms spread across the bed,” juice bottles around the room and the TV was on a cartoons channel.Court documents reveal gruesome details in toddler's rape, murder at Enid hotel

“Police have been conducting follow-up interviews, processing the evidence and submitting evidence for testing — just continuing to look at everything that’s been gathered and getting everything nailed down,” Rains said.

Multiple people, including Grand Prairie staff members and Guyton’s family members, were interviewed prior to Geiger being charged, and Rains said a few new witnesses have been interviewed to help establish timelines and verify statements made.

No new information has been discovered, Rains said, but the investigation is ongoing. He said Guyton’s parents and grandparents have been cooperating with the investigation.

Lt. Bryan Hart said arrests are made based on probable cause and evidence.

“All aspects of this incident are being investigated, with every individual involved being interviewed,” Hart said. “We appreciate the overwhelming support and appreciation from the public. However, they need to be mindful that these investigations take time. Social media is not the place for trial and conviction, and caution needs to be exercised when rushing to judgment.”

I suspect LE is getting some pressure to focus on the circumstances that led to Caliyah's kidnapping. IOW some anger at her home environment. IMO unless some new connection is found only one person will be held responsible for Caliyah's murder.

Is it true that Geiger was able to let himself into the family's room with a key card and carry little Caliyah out while her grandfather slept? If so then it's shocking that a motel employee can enter a private room at will. Note to self - always use the safety latch.

I doubt I will comment on this case or follow it beyond this. All I can say is, I will be gobsmacked if other individuals are not charged. Most instances I have seen involving meth and SA of a very young child have involved caretakers acting in concert with perp in an exchange of goods type of manner. TOS prevents me from further speculation. RIP sweet baby girl. I hope justice is done for you.

According to #12 TICYA article his hearing was June 6 at 1:15 pm
Not much from the hearing:

Geiger was released from an Oklahoma prison on March 29, 2022 after serving a 10-year sentence for kidnapping.

The defendant’s Monday court appearance was brief. He is next slated to appear in court for a preliminary hearing on July 11, 2022.

Geiger’s bond was denied, and he appeared at Garfield County Court House before Special District Judge Brian Lovell on Monday afternoon.

He will be back on Sept. 19 for a bond appearance ahead of his preliminary hearing, scheduled for 9 a.m. Nov. 16-17, where a judge will hear evidence in the case. The purpose of a preliminary hearing is to determine whether the prosecution has sufficient evidence against the defendant to justify a trial.

Absolutely disgusting. How could someone do that?
Meth helps. But is the possibility of doing something already in the individual? Perhaps.
