Nothing that would be considered a forest. There may be a few trees/bushes near the Elbow River, though. But not enough to conceal a body or bodies.
The crime scene is pretty close to the downtown area.

Anyone who is more local can probably give better insight than me.
I don't live in Calgary, but I do have general knowledge about the city.

Google streetview shows this at the end of their street (about 4 houses down from the Liknes' home):

It's the Elbow River Pathway (iirc) that runs alongside the river.

AMBER Alert issued for missing five-year-old from Calgary

Calgary police are investigating the disappearance of a five-year-old child and his grandparents from a home in the southwest and issued an AMBER Alert on Monday afternoon.

Police were called to a home in the 100 block of 38A Avenue SW at about 10:00 a.m. Monday by a mother who went to the home to pick up her son who was staying with his grandparents.

The three were not at the residence and have not been located despite efforts by police.

Investigators say evidence at the scene suggests their disappearance may be suspicious.

Nathan O'Brien Amber Alert: 'Person of interest' has criminal past, new charge
Douglas Garland faces identity theft charge in decades-old case, has link to Liknes family

Police took Garland into custody for questioning related to the search for five-year-old Nathan O'Brien and his grandparents, Kathy and Alvin Liknes, and CBC News has learned police have charged him with stealing the identity of Matthew Kemper Hartley — a 14-year-old Alberta boy killed in a car crash in 1980.

Bringing over from the closed thread

I keep going back to the statement made by LE that the case was "less a mystery" than it was the previous day. What changed? Did they get phone records? Did someone in the family recognize the vehicle and relay the family connection? Had there been previous contact between DG and AL regarding the failed business and money possibly owed? Had he threatened AL in the past or recently?
The police reacted with a very heavy presence at that location in Airdrie apparently based on a tip from the neighbour but what if they already knew about a connection and possible previous threats? Not saying there were threats, just speculating.

IMO phone records will determine if DG acted alone and with malice (if he is involved at all), or if AL contacted him for help

Daisy- to answer your question from the last thread about the Lake Bonaventure couple, it doesn't look like there is anything about the murder on websleuths.

Does DG have a cell phone and where are the towers in relation to the victims' home and where LE is searching now? TIA

I have read numerous times on these threads that the amber alert mentioned just Nathan and his grandfather. Yet I can only find amber alerts mentioning all three. Can someone clarify?

You could start one if you like.

I've been wondering - why are they grid searching the fields? Certainly they don't expect to find graves there or bodies (sorry) ? What could possibly be found in the fields that could lead them to OB and his grandparents, or tie DG to the crime? Belongings/clothing of the missing persons?

peony had asked in the previous thread if media would be in the courtroom. Usually, but no cameras. Welcome to Canada, the land of sketched courtroom testimony.

A room under ground maybe with a breathing pipe? Looking for the breathing pipe?

A weapon?

Would he toss a weapon into his own fields? I kind of doubt it. I can't imagine he'd toss anything in the fields that could tie him to the crime. He's intelligent it was said, he'd get rid of evidence elsewhere.

Do you have underground storm shelters in Canada? I guess not.
