Toronto Police have suggested that medical personnel wear street clothing so as to not be identifiable coming and going from work.

I imagine some weekend staff will have to sleep at the hospital so there is enough emergency coverage.

Why do the medical personnel need to hide their work clothes?

I'm also concerned that the citizens of Ottawa will get fed up and start an anti-protest protest which could result in clashes and violence.

Evening CTV news today had a man who lives in Ottawa losing it with the truckers because he hasn't slept in 5 days. He was angry and pleading for them to stop the honking. They haven't. Protesters claim that because there is no counter-protest, everyone agrees with their demands. Counter protesters are emerging. If that's what Canadian truckers need in order to listen, the people of Ottawa are beginning to tell them loud and clear that they do not agree with what they are trying to do or how they are doing it. Protesters have been told to clear out, but they refuse because they think they speak for Canadians.

The organizer Tamara Lich is on the radar of the Canadian Anti-Hate Network, which has flagged her association with the “Yellow Vest” movement and her support of the anti-Muslim Clarion Project.
“I wouldn’t say she was a major player,” CAHN executive director Evan Balgord said Thursday. “But she’s in the far-right ecosystem.

Can you provide links re your above statements about Tamara Lich? TIA.

Just read that the RCMP are coming into Ottawa for backup.

This is going to get quite ugly IMO.

Otto, I think the food shortages are going to last more than a few weeks. We’ve had shortages for a couple of months already.

The article specifically states that Alberta stores are truly going to have empty shelves - not always an alternate brand - because of the supply chain interference at the worst time of year. That extra shortage is expected to last a few weeks. Costs for what stores can supply will go up as well. Supply chain relationships that take years to develop may have been disrupted.

It will get ugly if the protesters turn violent when legally asked to stop what they are doing. Police and RCMP are not approaching the protesters in an ugly way. So far, they are withdrawing when the protesters become confrontational.

Who is Tamara Lich — the 'spark that lit the fire

Ottawa Citizen

Here it is.

"Lich resigned from the Maverick Party this week to devote herself full time to the "Freedom Convoy" protest.

The woman organizers describe as “the spark that lit the fire” of the truck convoy protest that has occupied downtown Ottawa is a former energy industry worker and a leader within the “Wexit” movement pushing for the independence of western provinces."

This is the woman who started the donation fund. She is now the main speaker at a protest media briefing. One million dollars have been released. How is that money being distributed?

First she wanted to split the country in two halves, now she wants more freedom than a country like Canada has to offer. Perhaps she can name another country where it is better than Canada?

"Tamara Lich, the main speaker at a protest media briefing in Ottawa Thursday afternoon, is one of the organizers of the controversial and currently frozen campaign that has raised more than $10-million for the demonstration. Lich was also involved with the Canadian “Yellow Vest” protests and the smaller “United We Roll” truckers’ protest convoy of 2019."

Toronto, here’s what Ottawa knows about the ‘Freedom Convoy’ | The Sta
''What if they block some intersection of Bloor Street? Hundreds of people, blaring their horns, screaming at onlookers and daring the outnumbered police to come at them?''

''Our officials said vague things like that, too. The reality was the opposite, everyone caught off balance — and ours is a town that normally shrugs off protests. As for “respectful and peaceful” — don’t count on it.''

''Look at this tweet from the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (it’s our version of Sick Kids): “For those supporting the #OttawaOccupation, please know it is some of the most vulnerable people in our community who are paying the biggest price.

“In this case, families whose kids are being treated for cancer and who are having trouble making it to their medical appointments.”

At the twin Élisabeth Bruyère and Saint-Vincent hospitals, staff “are being pointed at and being yelled at” for wearing masks, the hospitals’ vice-president said.

Ottawa is bewildered at how it could all go so wrong, so fast. Confused, too, by what the goal of the protest is, or whether it even has one.

They want “freedom,” all the signs say. Fine, who doesn’t? They want to replace the House of Commons with a citizens’ committee. They want fewer restrictions on cross-border trucking, which sounds reasonable — until they march around with swastikas.

Most of what they do just makes everyone angry: The flags, dancing on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier for a souvenir video, harassing the Shepherds of Good Hope mission into giving them free food that otherwise would have fed a hungry guy on the street.''

Odd that I didn’t see Tim Horton’s mentioned on Ottawa’s cancel culture list.

Businesses alleged to support the 'Freedom Convoy' protest face social media backlash | Ottawa Citizen

John Borsten, owner of Zak’s and The Grand Pizzeria, said in an interview: “We are surrounded by bullies on the left and right.”

Has Tim Hortons donated food and coffee to protesters, or are protesters buying that brand of coffee. I doubt that Tim Horton's will refuse to sell to some customers. That wouldn't go over well.

Toronto health care workers planning counter-protest to Saturday truck convoy | The Star
''A group of Toronto health care providers are organizing a rally to counter a planned Saturday protest against vaccine mandates that has police and city officials urgently preparing to avoid the kind of disruption that has ground downtown Ottawa to a halt this week.

Describing themselves as “concerned doctors, nurses and other health care workers,” the group said they want to ensure protesters do not interfere with anyone trying to receive health care services and they also want to defend the rights of health care workers to show up to work free from harassment.''

Lawsuit filed against convoy organizers, seeking damages on behalf of downtown Ottawa residents
Organizers of the Freedom Convoy that has gridlocked downtown Ottawa for the last week are facing a $9.8-million class-action lawsuit over relentless horn noise, filed on behalf of residents of the city's downtown core.

Hopefully they can freeze the $10 million in donations until the time of trial. I have a suspicion that a number of protesters are under the impression that the longer they remain at the protest, the more money they will receive.

Same link - excellent news. I wonder how many protesters will go home now that they will not be paid for occupying Ottawa.

“[Fundraiser company] supports peaceful protests and we believe that was the intention of the Freedom Convoy 2022 fundraiser when it was first created,” the company said in a statement released Friday evening.

We now have evidence from law enforcement that the previously peaceful demonstration has become an occupation, with police reports of violence and other unlawful activity.”

According to the Feb. 4 [fundraiser company] statement, the company determined the fundraiser violated its terms of service, “which prohibits the promotion of violence and harassment.”
