Five innocent bystanders shot in ‘completely reckless’ west end driveby
"Toronto Police say the gunfire erupted near Jane St. and Woolner Ave., north of St. Clair Ave., around 10:20 p.m.

It’s believed two people opened fire from a grey sedan.

“They were just indiscriminately shooting at individuals in this area,” Insp. Norm Proctor told reporters at the scene. “It’s completely reckless.”

“These individuals with no regard for human life just took it upon themselves to shoot out of their vehicle at anybody who was in that area,” he added.''

''When they arrived they discovered a woman in her 50s along with two men, one in his 40s and another in his 30s, all suffering fromserious but non-life threatening gunshot wounds.

Police later said two more individuals showed up at an area hospital also suffering from gunshot wounds. They are also said to be in serious condition.''

''The shooting was one of several incidents police responded to across the GTA Friday night.

Police say six to seven male suspects were firing at a vehicle in the area of Kipling Avenue and Kidron Valley Drive shortly after 11:30 p.m. Numerous shell casings were found in the area.

Police were also searching for at least three suspects after shots were fired at a home in the area of Parma Court and Victoria Park Avenue.''

''Reports indicate that 2 suspects were 'indiscriminantly' shooting at crowd''

''Police say the victims were shot by two men in a black sedan who drove into the parking lot and opened fire.

Both suspects drove away after the shooting.

Insp. Shawna Coxon told reporters Saturday that dozens of people were gathered in the parking lot because the area is an "informal community space" where people hang out and relax. ''

Well, that's sad. I really was hoping that there would be no deaths from this. He's so young too. It makes me want to cry. I hope they find the killers.

<modsnip out quoted post>

Gun crime has risen in TO (primarily) and (less dramatically) in other Canadian cities recently. Various factors, from the loosening of gun control regulations under the Harper government to the increase in gang affiliation and larger socio-economic disparities and unrest, are generally cited. ''The violent death of Sidi Mohamed Sow earlier this month has left his family and friends in disbelief. The 21-year-old Toronto man was one of five people shot in a drive-by shooting in a parking lot near Jane Street and Woolner Avenue in the city's west end the night of July 10.

Mohamed, who recorded hip hop music under the name King Mo, died in hospital the following evening.''

''Coverage of Mohamed's death drew criticism after police released an old mug shot when first identifying him to press. His mother, Houleymatou Bah, told CBC News the photo is from an incident in middle school.

At the time, Mohamed was being bullied by some older students who, she says, tried to frame him for stealing a T-shirt at a Walmart by putting it into his backpack. Mohamed took the blame to avoid angering the bullies. Security footage showed he didn't steal the shirt, but he ended up having to report to police and attend a few days of counselling as a result.''

Arrested person's name initialed by me.

''Sow, 21, an only child who rapped under the name King Mo, well-known in his St. Clair West neighbourhood as a mentor to young neighbours, friends recalled in the wake of this death. ''
