Hmm. That guy that killed Sharon could have been a trucker. Not a long trip at all.

Suspect is Donald Everingham, confessed to killing several girls.

http://www.doenetwork.org/media/news62.html

NARROW ESCAPES

A few months later, in July, an 18-year-old Etobicoke high school student was riding her bike at 11:15 p.m. when a man jumped out and knocked her down. He threatened to slit her throat if she didn't follow him to his car. Instead, she managed to punch him in the face and escape. The next month, on Aug. 26, 1974, an eight-year-old girl was abducted while riding her bike near her Craigleith cottage. The child was raped and then thrown naked and bleeding from a car, a stocking knotted tightly around her neck. Police believed she survived only because a heavy rainstorm loosened the knot.

Donald Everingham was eventually convicted of both crimes and sentenced indefinitely to what was then known as the Hospital for the Criminally Insane at Penetanguishene.

The following year, a special Crown prosecutor said Everingham had confessed to several murders, including that of Cheryl Hanson. He said the man described Cheryl's clothes and drew a crude map of where he'd thrown her body.

But the newspapers had been full of Cheryl's description and extensive police searches in the area he indicated never uncovered her body.

"I'm investigating if in fact there was a confession," says Acting Det. Tim Gore, to York Regional Police's cold squad. "We haven't been able to verify it."

Could this case be linked to Ingrid Bauer's disappearance? "I don't know," he says. "Possibly."

COLD CASE: Tips still coming in 45 years later for Kleinburg's disappeared Ingrid Bauer

Ingrid Bauer's disappearance remains Kleinburg's only cold case on file with YRP

It wasn't long before his death that Oscar Bauer finally gave up the ghost of his long lost 14-year-old daughter, who went missing one summer's night in 1972 Kleinburg.

Months before he took his last breath, the 87-year-old German immigrant made his way to Newmarket courthouse to declare his little girl deceased.

His dream of finding her, or catching the person responsible for her disappearance, remains very much alive, according to the two men tasked with finding out what happened to Ingrid.

It may be 44 years, eight months and 28 days since she vanished, but Det. Bill Courtice and Det. Bob Athwal, the two members of York Regional Police's cold case unit, admitted something they never have before publicly — tips are still coming into the service, the latest, just five years ago.

....

Ingrid greatly resembles the sketch of Irondequoit Jane Doe. It's only about 3 hours away from where she went missing.
Has anyone ever submitted a possible match for her? Sadly, that JD had insufficient DNA for profiling, so it would have to be through dental records.
