It would be foolish to dump a body or remains in the town of Bragg Creek, but the fact is that human remains have been dumped in the areas named by police in this search. East Kananaskis is a huge area. The actual locations are often kept vague, as with Otto Loose, "a wooded area near Bragg Creek", "the suspect drove past Bragg Creek". Otto Loose was from east of Calgary, near Vulcan. His killer visited the casino on Tsu Tina land, but who knows why he chose the place he did to leave the remains.

It is a beautiful area, but it is close to a big city. This is unfortunate, but also fact.

The Jumpingpound area, and the demonstration forest, has been used for this purpose on numerous occasions going back more than 40 years.

I was referring to the Kananaskis area as posted several times by @Gina20, not specifically Bragg Creek.

I suppose what I mean is that if you search for bodies in any direction from Calgary, you will find them, and that West of Calgary is not any more common or popular than any other direction. Kananaskis is such a large area that finding one or two bodies in the area does not mean that they are near each other.

Area: 4,211 km²

I understand. The thought of hiking while possibly surrounded by human remains is certainly a novel idea to me. I mainly (used to) worry about wildlife and where I'm stepping, especially if on rocky ground and/or an incline.

I suppose if they do find the bodies there, they will be added to the statistics of bodies dumped in that area. moo

I'm assuming that police will continue to look for the bodies until they are found in one of the three search areas. In the meantime, another body might be found East of Calgary.

To reiterate, it's starting to feel like bodies are laying around everywhere. I'll concede it's a good thing to find them so someone will get "closure" and maybe a crime will be exponentially solved.

It goes back to this article.

Bragg Creek locals on edge over potential homicide investigation in their backyard

"Bragg Creek is no stranger to police activity and searches for bodies. In 2017, RCMP search teams scoured Highway 22 after human remains were found near Redwood Meadows, some seven kilometres northeast of Bragg Creek.

"And just last week, a carjacking suspect led police on a chase from Calgary toward Bragg Creek. The stolen vehicle got stuck in a ditch, at which point police took the driver into custody....

“They’ll find them here. They’ll find them in Bragg Creek,” she said, adding people are upset the hamlet continues to be associated with criminal activity. “Why are they doing this?” she asked rhetorically. “Nobody wants that connection to here, it’s not something we want.”

It's understandable that people who live in Priddis, Bragg Creek and the Tsuu Tina nation are concerned about the possibility that Jasmine and her daughter may be in the area. Tsuu Tina nation seems to be a popular place for bodies.

I went back to TV news reports to try to determine the location of the search when it was postponed due to snow. It's near the corner of Highway 762 and Highway 22.

I found this description of the restricted area during the McLean Creek wildfire last year.

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calgary/mclean-creek-wildfire-1.4680121

"The province issued an emergency alert for the Municipal District of Foothills shortly before 4 p.m. Sunday, and notified residents that a voluntary evacuation was in place for areas west of Highway 762, between Highway 22 and 178 Avenue W.

"Residents were also instructed to avoid Highway 762, Highway 549, west of Millarville and Highway 66 west of Bragg Creek and to be prepared to evacuate. Range road 54A was closed south of Elbow River."

This sounds like the area where the main search is focused.

There's a downloadable map of the fire zone here.

You can see a road south of Highway 22 on the right (east) side of the image. Zoom in and you can see houses along the road. This road could take a person close to the wildfire burn zone.

What’s to prevent a murderer from leaving a cellphone at home when he doesn’t want his activity to be tracked and only taking it with him when his intention is to lead LE astray?

Only last December when Downey was tried the Calgary media provided extensive coverage of the CPS officer’s testimony who was able to use Downey’s personal cellphone to track his route east of the city to almost the exact spot where Taliyah’s body was found. Cellphone tracking has played a role in many prior publicized murder trials for years.

Once the weather clears, I do hope investigators find what they require so charges can be filed but I’m just not so sure it’ll be as easy and straight forward as it might appear.

Daily Mail, a UK tabloid, has a tendency toward creative writing as demonstrated by the first paragraph.

Police say Briton is a suspect in a double Canadian murder | Daily Mail Online
“A British man who police have identified as the prime suspect in the murder of a mother and her one-year-old daughter in Canada claims he was with his girlfriend at the time they disappeared...

“......Leeming told The Mirror: 'When I last saw Jasmine she was fine. They were both sitting down here.

'I went somewhere else and they weren’t here when I came back. I left to go and see another girl. I’ve not been seeing her that long.

'That’s not what she [Ms Lovett] has told her family so obviously that makes it very difficult. Jasmine told her family we were together more than what we actually were or are. I’ve been dating [the new girl] for a few months.'...”

Likely hiding spot for a gun or weapons. If this guy has a bunch of knives and guns in his house, there's a good chance a murder weapon would be dumped somewhere like inside a vent when trying to dispose of the evidence. Also going to see hair/skin cells in vents so there may be evidence there. I'm guessing they blew the vents out into bags to collect whatever DNA or particles they could find.

Not likely, if it was small enough to fit in a vent it was a handgun, hand guns are registered in canada with daily background checks
Usually non residents cant buy them or get a licence, and people with criminal charges like with the whole dog thing should never have been given and firearms licence here according to our laws.
The rcmp know exactly what restricted firearms you have and if one was "missing" and un reported as much he would be doing 5 years in jail

The Court documents referring to gun ownership quoted below appear to be from 2018 and I admit to knowing little or nothing about our gun registry laws.

But two things I noticed, Leeming is a resident and in Alberta animal cruelty charges fall under the Animal Protection Act, which appears to be outside of the Criminal Code.

So it possible he still had legal possession of his guns up until now? If so, then I think you are indicating if any were missing (ie murder evidence destroyed) that would’ve been an offence he’d have been charged with? I’m just curious and would appreciate if you or others would share your thoughts.

“Court documents show the man at the centre of a suspected double homicide investigation in Calgary has prior convictions for animal cruelty, and owns an arsenal of weapons including two handguns, one shotgun and approximately 60 knives. Nancy Hixt reports.”
Primary suspect in Calgary double-homicide investigation has prior animal cruelty convictions

“Leeming said he is not a Canadian citizen but has permanent residency in the country.”

They did begin their focus on that intersection, but the search was quite vast spanning from Elbow Falls to the 762 intersection, to Fullerton Loop. They haven't really narrowed it down to a specific location. The other problem is that 60% of the area doesn't have cell coverage, so likely whatever phone they were tracing would have been only pinging here and there.

I was out there today for a hike and it was snowing overtop of the old snow. It takes so long for it to melt they won't be out there until later next week I'm sure.

My guess is that the bodies are somewhere that won't be found anytime soon. The initial search included a helicopter, several horseback riders, cadaver dogs and several police and search and rescue units combing off road, in and around day use areas up and down. Who's the even say the bodies are out there? Maybe they were dismembered out there and moved, or maybe the phone that was pinging was left somewhere while the person moved the bodies somewhere else completely. I really hope they find them, but in the meantime hoping they crack RL to confess.

They're searching that area for a reason. It's the best lead they have. Cellphone data may have led the police there, but it is possible that won't lead them to the remains. That area is huge, and with the number of days before Jasmine and Aliyah were known to be missing, there could be multiple crime scenes. It's easy to leave a phone behind, and even to switch to a quad/quad with a trailer. And yes, cellphone coverage can be non-existent. If the PS knows the area, he knows this. What was on the property they have been searching? A woodchipper? Did he have prior knowledge of the place, and what was there? Is that why he went there?

The police say the PS may have been there between April 16 and 20. Mom and daughter weren't reported missing until April 23. Unless they can verify exactly where he was from April 20 to 23, he could have been out in the area again during thas time, too, perhaps with a burner phone, or no phone, and a borrowed vehicle, or maybe he went somewhere else. Surely the movements of the Mercedes were traceable, even if GPS was unsubscribed. It seems that the police reacted immediately to the missing persons report, and went straight to the PS. So they really seem certain about the PS. No one else is a suspect, to our knowledge. I guess things weren't as rosy as RL described them.

Sad to say, I don't believe bodies will be found, but human remains may be found.

The best thing to do right now is to keep the PS -- who remains unnamed by police -- where he is, free. Police have all the time in the world, as they've made it clear there will be no happy ending. There are no signs that Jasmine and Aliyah are alive.

I hope that everyone in the search area is keeping their eyes open for flocks of birds circling, particularly corvids. Over the mountains in the Kootenays, there are turkey vultures. I've never seen any on the Alberta side of the border, but there are crows, jays, magpies and ravens.

As for being too lazy to dig, it's pretty hard to dig glacial till and river rocks, which is what is underneath a thin layer of soil in much of the Kananaskis. It's easier to dig along a river bank or creek bed. Disturbed soil along a bank would be something to look at. In treed areas, roots make shovelling impossible. These are things a newcomer might not have known.

Charred dead wood in a streambed would be a sign, too. There is a lot of dead wood remaining in place from the 2013 flood.

I keep wondering what those online ads said, ("room available to female"?), and what online dating sites the PS might have used. The more evidence investigators dig up before laying charges, the better. In a few months, if the PS is who he says he is, and as broke as he says he is, a fine might go unpaid, and custody will ensue.

People will be out opening up their summer cabins shortly. This could be just what is needed.

I hope that everyone along Highway 22X, 22 and 762 searches the ditches adjacent to their properties, and reports any missing items, including wood stolen from a woodpile, or recent fires in a firepit that were not set by the property owners. And fishermen in the area or downstream should be aware, too.

Remembering Hailey Dunbar-Blanchette.
