The body of 56-year-old Brant Burke of Killarney was found on a trail the morning of Oct. 25, 2020, in the bush off Highway 637, within the Point Grondine Reserve, part of Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory.

On Nov. 24, 2020, police arrested and charged Kerry Burke, 58, of Killarney, with first degree murder. The following day, police arrested and charged Melissa Sheridan, 39, of Sudbury, with first degree murder. Police confirmed that Kerry Burke is the deceased's brother and Sheridan is the deceased's estranged wife.

"The deceased man’s obituary said he is the father of four and grandfather of two. According to social media posts, two of these kids appear to be his children with Melissa Sheridan.***
Melissa Sheridan and Kerry Burke are listed in the obituary as his wife and brother, respectively."

''Brant Burke was apparently a “problem.”
A “problem” for his older brother Kerry but mostly a “problem” for Brant’s estranged wife Melissa Sheridan, according to an agreed statement of facts read in court.

The Killarney man was oblivious that his brother and Sheridan had been engaged in a torrid sexual affair for months, according to Kerry.

After months of agonizing, a Sudbury court heard, the two brothers went moose hunting on Oct. 19, 2020, near Killarney. As Brant walked ahead, Kerry shot his brother from the hip, the Sudbury Star reports.
Then he squeezed off a second shot to “finish him off”.

''On Tuesday, Kerry Burke pleaded guilty to second-degree murder. Burke told the court that Sheridan promised him $10,000 and a house if he would “get rid of the problem”.

Now, Kerry Burke, bearing the mark of shame is staring down the possibility of spending the rest of his life in prison for killing the younger brother who adored him.

He will be back in court in June to set a date for sentencing.

Alleged femme fatale Melissa Sheridan has a very long road ahead. She’s back in court next month.''

"A preliminary hearing for a Sudbury-area woman accused of conspiring to kill her husband almost two years ago has been delayed.

The hearing for Melissa Sheridan – which will determine if there is enough evidence to go to trial – was to have started Tuesday at the Sudbury Courthouse. It will now begin July 26. No reason for the delay was given.

That date, however, is one day after co-accused Kerry Burke, 60, of Killarney, and who has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the case, is sentenced."

The Killarney, Ont., man who pleaded guilty to second-degree murder for the 2020 death of his brother has received a life sentence with no possibility of parole for 15 years.

Kerry Burke was today sentenced in Sudbury court for the death of his brother Brant Burke, 56.

Brant Burke was found dead on a trail in Point Grondine Reserve within Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory on Oct. 25, 2020.

In making the sentencing recommendation, assistant Crown attorney Terry Waltenbury said he has had the misfortune of being at a number of murder sentencings, and emotions are always high, but this was his first where the case involved a brother taking the life of his own brother.

"The level of emotion here today is about as high as it gets," he said.''

Ontario woman to sue police over ‘nonsense’ arrest in estranged husband’s murder

"A Sudbury woman accused of murdering her estranged husband — before the charge was dropped — plans to sue the police who investigated and arrested her for their “deliberate and negligent conduct” and for violating core constitutional principles, her lawyers say.

...
In August, Toronto lawyer Justin Linden sent a letter to the Ontario Provincial Police and the Wikwemikong Tribal Police Service that his firm has been retained by Sheridan to commence a civil action “to recover damages arising from your negligent investigation” unlawful detention and various Charter breaches."
