Woman missing since last weekend was last seen at Victoria International Airport, RCMP say
RCMP believe she was planning to central Vancouver Island. Most of the news coverage says the exact same thing at the time of starting this thread.

According to someone in the comments on a Vibrant Victoria (local News) Facebook post about missing Laura Huebner, they may have seen her on a bus in Victoria BC.

She does have a Facebook profile and it does appear she had planned to travel but not where to specifically. Looks like she liked to travel. It states she's from Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

Police said they believe she was planning to travel to central Vancouver Island. CTV News has reached out for clarification on whether her itinerary included a flight, and whether police believe she boarded it. This story will be updated if a response is received.''

More details emerge on missing woman last seen at Victoria International Airport

More information has come to light in the search for a woman travelling from Regina to Vancouver Island last month.

Nanaimo RCMP have now joined the search for Laura Huebner, who was first reported missing to Sidney RCMP by family on April 29th.

Huebner was last seen at the Victoria International airport on Sunday April 24th, after arriving on a flight from Saskatchewan.

It is believed she travelled to Nanaimo the same day. There have been no other confirmed sightings of her since.

Huebner was supposed to return to Regina on Thursday April 28th at midnight, but it has been confirmed she never boarded her flight in Victoria.

Family and friends have posted updates online stating Huebner sent her father a random photo of a boat she may have been on. There is also speculation she was meeting a man that she had recently met online.

Once the photos of the boat were posted online, people began to speculate the location, many stating the area appeared to be in Nanaimo.

The following day, a boat matching the description and photo was seen docked at a Nanaimo marina next to an RCMP vessel after it was towed in.

Victoria Buzz reached out to Nanaimo RCMP to confirm whether a boat is connected to this missing person case, in response, Const. Gary O’Brien said they would not be confirming any details other than she is believed to be in the Nanaimo area, as of April 24th.

As a result, her family is concerned for her safety and well-being.

Huebner is described as a Caucasian woman standing 5’8” tall, weighing about 140 pounds. She has blonde hair and brown eyes.

Huebner was last wearing blue jeans, and white jacket over a white hoodie. It was originally reported by Sidney RCMP that she is 47-years-old, however, Nanaimo RCMP are reporting her as 45-years-old.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Laura Huebner is urged to contact Nanaimo RCMP non-emergency line at 250-754-2345, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).

''Huebner was supposed to return to Regina on April 28 but did not.

On April 29, her family reported her missing to the Sidney RCMP, who opened a missing persons file.''

''A social media post from Huebner’s brother-in-laws says her family is worried.

"With each day that passes, we grow more concerned for Laura’s safety," it reads.

"She has had no contact with her family," said O’Brien. "This is completely out of character and they’re extremely worried for her safety."

Police have released what they claim is the most current photo of Huebner. She is 5'8" and weighs 140 pounds. She was last seen wearing a white jacket, white hoodie and blue jeans.

"We’re starting from ground zero, working towards where she may be," said O’Brien. "We’re checking with all the sources in town."

Police recover body from waters off Protection Island

RCMP have recovered a body floating off the waters of Protection Island, near Nanaimo.

Const. Gary O’Brien said Nanaimo RCMP responded to call from a resident on Monday afternoon and recovered the body near the shore.

He said no details on the identity of the person, including whether the body is that of a man or a woman, will be released until the coroner has completed an autopsy.

RCMP have been searching for a 59-year-old man who has been missing and presumed drowned since April 11.

Nanaimo RCMP have asked for the public’s assistance in locating 45-year-old Laura Huebner from Regina, who was last seen arriving at Victoria International Airport on April 24, and who later travelled to Nanaimo...

This doesn’t sound good at all but no update yet on identification of the body. No word yet either on who the man was but they have the boat so should be more news soon. Prayers for the family. Moo

She was last seen 14 days ago.

She had flown from Calgary to Vancouver Island for a 4 day vacation, apparently to meet a man she had never met. Unclear to me whether she knew they were getting on a boat or not.

At least LE appear to have impounded a boat.

We'll have to see if this is related to the body that was just found off of Protection Island in Nanaimo.

I wish strength to her family and friends.

Yeah, it really doesn't sound too good. From what I did read about the body, it may have been in the water a while so there's a chance it isn't her. This piece has some interviews with friends and family with more pictures and a bit of her background. Friends and family worried after tourist abruptly vanishes on Vancouver Island

I really hope LE is able to trace any of her communications with this man she was supposedly going to meet.

Are we assuming she didn't have her own hotel room?

That she was going to stay with this unknown guy, evidently on a boat, and that's where all her items would be: phone, purse, wallet, CC, luggage, clothing, etc.

''Laura Huebner was full of hope, ready to be free of responsibility for a while when she boarded a plane from Regina for Victoria on April 24, says her longtime friend.

“She was working three jobs, that takes a lot out of someone. She just had lost her mom a few months ago and she just said you know I’m going to Victoria for a break. The last words I said were ‘have fun in Victoria,'” said Danika Wright, Huebner’s friend of more than 20 years, from her home outside Regina.

According to friends, the single 47-year-old was also going to meet a man in Victoria that they didn’t know.

Soon after arriving, Huebner’s friends say he offered to take her on a date on his sailboat and that she sent a photo to her dad on April 25 — her last communication before vanishing.

“She was planning on coming back because we talked about working together. She was excited about going back and working on some films. So I know she wasn’t planning to go away and not come back right,” said Wright.''

This is Laura's FB page. There is a post dated February 1st in which someone in the comments posted the RCMP bulletin about her being missing encouraging her to contact her family as she was reported missing. In some of the replies, a Jr R ML replies asking people to call police if they've seen her and further in the replies, asks someone else in the reply thread to send them a link of the boat that LE were allegedly investigating.

On the surface, it may not be anything really. Maybe they know her or maybe they're just into missing person's cases. It's a highly anonymized profile. More so than usual, it seems. There are however some photos of Fisherman's Wharf in Victoria and some boats which kind of got me thinking. There is also another commenter in the reply thread that questions Jr R ML about having a similar boat and dingy to the one that was found.

I'm not saying Jr R ML is involved it's just the highly anonymized nature of the profile, photos of Fisherman's Wharf in Victoria and high interest in Laura's case got me a little concerned.
