RCMP press release about the missing teens had that comment "returned to BC for unknown reasons" because they probably already knew a few locations they visited between July 12 to July 19.

I upload a map with my best guess. Excuse the horrible markup on my old tablet.

They had time after the Liard incident to head north for a quick visit across the Yukon border.

If the Australian media hadn't printed the story about the shootings, would we still be sitting here thinking all this time that two nice boys had gone missing? Rhetorical.
It is actually possible that RCMP had a different strategy to catch up with them.

I guarantee you that zipping from BC to Alberta to get to Northern BC is not a preferred route. The Rocky Mountains separate BC and Alberta so before ever arriving at Hwy 2, in the summer plus tourist season one is virtually guaranteed road construction and heavy traffic making for slow progress through the mountains.

I did not say it is the preferred route from Port Alberni. I said it is possible.

People from PG do travel north through Dawson Creek, then head south on Highway 2 to get to southern Alberta. These two were coming from the island. They may have had reasons to go through Spences Bridge or Merritt, for all we know. But we don't know.

@AAPinLA

Mystery continues ... the @rcmpmb declined to tell @AAPNewswire
if the divers found clues linking the boat to #Canadamanhunt fugitives #KamMcLeod #bryerschmegelsky ... or why they set up the Sundance roadblock. Story on
@AAPNewswire

Wonder why RCMP would decline to say anything one way or the other? They must have found something and are sending whatever it is for testing.
CBC is reporting that there were no new leads from the dives.

Yes. They could have visited Whitehorse after July 14/15th overnight murders, and headed back to BC on July 17th.

But they sure would be concerned about getting a ticket.

Depending on how recent Ks DL photo was, it’s not unheard of for unscrupulous people to show officers false ID. Other than for Ks facial hair, B would easily pass for K based on eye colour, hair colour and age.

Showing false ID to an officer if stopped would be minimal on their morality scale IMO considering their alleged murder of three people, possible theft of cash, credit or debit cards, personal items, etc and the RAV4.

I think the RCMP has just about had it with the Australian press. They've been inaccurate and sensationalist. I think the RCMP dealt nicely with the Globe and Mail reporters up there and gave them as much info/access as they could.

Australian press push for answers. The Canadian press has had a way too cordial relationship with the police. Where are the inaccuracies in the Australian press? Without them y’all wouldn’t even know that Chynna and Lucas were shot. No press is perfect but getting under the RCMPs skin is a good thing sometimes

But you're quite right in that they haven't actually officially graduated.

New York Times, 7/24/2019

“The men left Port Alberni, a paper and lumber mill town on Vancouver Island, to look for work in neighboring Alberta on July 12, said Mr. Schmegelsky’s father, Al, in an interview with CHEK television in Victoria, British Columbia, on Monday. He said the pair took jobs at Walmart following high school graduation but quit after five weeks.”

I don't actually think Lucas/Chynna's cause of death was released because someone got under the RCMP's skin...

The Aussie press is reporting all the social media rumours as fact (and the Canadian press certainly is not). Many of the Aussie outlets are reporting that "the search has moved to Ontario" (even "the town of Ontario" for pete's sake) when it is clear the RCMP is still focusing on the Gillam area.

If by "getting under the RCMP's skin" you mean publishing rumours as if they are fact and dialing up the hysteria here so all sorts of false leads are reported, and police forces all over Canada are forced to waste their time...how exactly is that a good thing? Aussie reporters just want clicks and they are being very irresponsible to get them.

Could the bodies be there somewhere, and not be discovered?

Easily. If they drowned in the rapids their bodies could be anywhere the entire length of the river, above or below water. The fact the divers called off the search so quickly leads me to believe the police don’t think they were linked to the boat.

Yes and so did Kam Mcleod which many fail to realize. Both of them were in alternative school

Question: where did you guys find that they were in alternative school?

CBC News has confirmed that McLeod recently attended Alberni District Secondary School. It's unclear if Schmegelsky also went there.

Alberni District Secondary School is listed as the only high school in Port Alberni and does not seem to be an alternative school.

Also for the person further up the thread who was asking if there was any information on Kam's personality from his friends...this article has some quotes about that:

Branden McHale, a friend of McLeod's, described him as a big gaming nerd and a happy person.

"He didn't have a lot of friends, but he was really funny," said McHale.

He said McLeod was mostly into fantasy video games like League of Legends.

McHale described Schmegelsky as somewhat shy.

"Bryer was really quiet with people. He was really loud-spoken in his friend group but pretty quiet in general."

That information was provided to the families of the victims.

There is a sizable police operation in Ontario at the moment too. Possibly more officers dedicated there than in Gillam now since they scaled back. Canadian press has published some speculation too. I would say part of the reason some Australian outlets have published unverified information is that not all outlets had a presence in Gillam and if RCMP refuses to talk then who else can they go off?

They could be in Hudson Bay by now depending on the current. Let's put it this way, if they died (which it's looking increasingly likely that they did), whether their remains are in the water or on land, the RCMP is going to be lucky to find them IMO.

PA does have alternative high school, google "VAST" SD70
