“I think a minute longer and he wouldn’t have survived,” she said. “His wife was crying, everyone was crying.”
The Surrey RCMP says the suspect then stole a car and remains at large.
“Police remain in the area and are actively looking for the suspect. The investigators are examining the scene, speaking with witnesses and canvassing the neighbourhood for CCTV footage,” the detachment wrote in a news release. “The investigation is still in the early stages and police are working to determine the motive.”
The stolen vehicle is a white Mini Cooper with black stripes and black rims, with the B.C. licence plate D80745, according to police.

]]In an update Saturday afternoon, the Surrey RCMP said the public helped police recover a white Mini Cooper the suspect stole and drove away in after the terrifying attack at a currency exchange in Whalley.

The suspect, described by police as a young man, has not been apprehended.''

33-year-old Kalid Yimer is described as 170 cm (5’6) tall, with dark hair, brown eyes and a medium build.

Yimer is believed to be in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia or travelling to Alberta.

Given the severity of the incident on August 2, 2024, Kalid Yimer is believed to be violent and dangerous, and police are releasing an enhanced photo to locate him and warn the public, says Cpl. Sarbjit K. Sangha, Media Relations Officer with Surrey RCMP. If you have information on the whereabouts of Kalid Yimer, or if you see him, do not approach and call 9-1-1.

Background: On August 2, 2024, at approximately 1:10 pm, Surrey RCMP received a report of a serious assault in 10200 block of City Parkway. Frontline officers attended the scene and located the victim, who suffered serious injuries and was transported to the hospital.
