"TORONTO - A convicted sexual predator who falsely claimed to be transgender and preyed on women at two Toronto shelters could be declared a dangerous offender this month.

Christopher Hambrook — who claimed to be a transgender woman named Jessica — has attacked four vulnerable females between the ages of five and 53 in Montreal and Toronto over the past 12 years.

Justice John McMahon will decide Feb. 26 whether to declare Hambrook a dangerous offender, which carries an indefinite prison sentence.

The prosecution is asserting Hambrook, a former stripper and escort from Quebec, simply cannot control his deviant sexual urges and that locking him up indefinitely is the best way to protect the public.

Hambrook, 37, pleaded guilty in February 2013 to two counts of sexual assault and one count of criminal harassment involving two women — a deaf and homeless Quebec woman and a Toronto survivor of domestic violence — while he was living at a Dundas St. W. shelter and the Fred Victor women’s shelter in January and February 2012"

" Students at Sheridan College are being warned about a potential sexual predator on campus.

Police released an updated description of a suspect believed to have been involved in at least five incidents at the Oakville school – at least one of which involved a sexual assault.

In the most recent incident, a woman was walking on the sidewalk on the north side of Sheridan College at around 9 p.m. on Feb. 6 when a man approached her from behind and grabbed her backpack, police said in a news release Tuesday. The woman screamed and struck the suspect with her bag before he fled."

"Police are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect given the following description:

Male

Between 5’4” and 5’6”
Slim or medium build
Wearing a dark coloured jacket with a hood.
The rim of the hood is believed to be lined with a light coloured material.
It is also believed that the suspect was wearing a dark coloured ski mask or other material which covered his face.

During the assault, the victim bit the suspect and there is a strong possibility the suspect will have suffered an injury consistent with a bite mark to one of his hands.

Police would like to remind the public to make your personal safety your number one priority.

Try and walk in large groups, particularly at night and use the buddy system as there is strength in numbers.
If you can, choose a well-lit route to your destination.

" Power said the suspect appears to follow no set pattern, attacking victims of different backgrounds, at different locations around the campus, at different times of day and night.

He said the individual's actions seem to indicate he is comfortable with the surroundings of the Sheridan campus, but could not say whether this was because he lives, works or attends classes in the area.

Halton police Constable Carla Draper, the Oakville Community Support Officer, called on students to take control of their own safety by being more aware of their surroundings.

"Let's get unplugged. Why do we walk around with our heads down, looking at our cell phones? Why are we texting and walking?" she asked.

"You are not seeing what is really happening when you are doing that and that is the biggest concern. We need you to know what is going on around you. We need you to walk with your head high. We need you to be confident, assertive, walk with a purpose and look around and pay attention to what is really going on."

Police said a good portion of the victims had ear buds on when they were attacked."

Monster May Have More Victims
By Ron Fanfair, Toronto Police Service Published: 10:45 a.m. February 19, 2014
Updated: 2:20 p.m. February 19, 2014

With a violent sexual offender behind bars for at least the next seven years, police are appealing to individuals who may have been attacked by the accused in the past to contact them.

"Nathaniel Bumesi, 23, was sentenced to 10 years in prison on Feb. 18, after pleading guilty last October. He was caught on surveillance video repeatedly choking, raping and stomping on the head of a helpless 53-year-old woman whom he had lured behind his apartment building in the Dundas St. E. and Sherbourne St. area.

He was arrested 18 hours after the attack thanks to the efforts of 51 Division and Forensic Identification officers as well as staff with Toronto Community Housing.

Detective Mark Benallick, of the Sex Crimes Unit Special Victims Section, was in court for the sentencing.

“Due to the degree of violence demonstrated by Bumesi, and the randomness of the act on an unknown person, we believe there may be other victims out there,” he said. “We want them to come forward. For the peace of mind of those who want to report anything to us, they could take comfort in knowing that the accused will not be released from custody for the next seven years. I hope that may address any safety concerns they may have.”

"A former owner of the CFL’s Hamilton Tiger-Cats is asking for the return of his “priceless” 1999 Grey Cup ring, which was stolen from his Toronto home during a break-in.

A break-in occurred at a home in the Bloor Street West and Avenue Road area at between 4 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 9.

George Grant, who was owner and vice-chairman of the Tiger-Cats from 1992 to 2003, says the championship ring was taken Feb. 9 along with other jewelry and valuables.

Grant says he and his wife returned from a family dinner that evening to find the front door forced open and many valuable items, including sterling silver, watches and all his jewelry, had been taken.

He says the Grey Cup ring was in a special wooden box and that a Diamond Jubilee Medal was also taken"
