The Toronto Police Service is seeking the public's assistance identifying a man wanted in an Indecent Act investigation.

It is reported that:

- on Tuesday, February 28, 2014, at approximately 5:50 p.m., a man was found committing an indecent act in the children's literature section of a book store at 2300 Yonge Street.

- the man left the scene prior to police arrival

He is described as white, 40-50, 6', 150 lbs, with short grey hair. He was last seen wearing a dark long-sleeve shirt and black pants. He was carrying a black backpack.

On Tuesday, March 4, 2014, William Shorten 47, of Toronto, was arrested. He is charged with:

1) Indecent Act
2) Fail to Comply - Probation

He was scheduled to appear in court at College Park, in courtroom 501, Wednesday, March 5, 2014, at 10 a.m.

Police believe there may be more victims.

A previous news release incorrectly identified him as 32, and provided an incorrect link".

The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of a series of distraction thefts that have been taking place throughout the GTA, targeting vulnerable and elderly people.

It is reported that:

- typically, two people would approach a lone person outside their home or in a public place

- the two would engage in conversation by offering inexpensive pieces of jewellery which are then placed on the person

- as they inexpensive jewellery is removed, they also remove the person's real jewellery

The fraudsters are described as middle-aged women, typically accompanied by a getaway driver.

The Toronto Police Service is asking everyone to make their family or friends aware of this rouse.

"Shorten, 44, was convicted of 12 sex offences involving five- to 14-year-olds in public areas in Toronto from 1998 to 2007, said the statement issued Thursday.

It said he did not know any of the victims at the time of the assaults.

But court records obtained by The Toronto Sun show the convicted pervert’s favourite haunts were libraries and bookstores located near subway stations. Inside the book sites, he waited for children who were alone, then exposed himself and invited mostly young girls to touch him sexually.

Prior to 2008, when Shorten was accused of sexually assaulting a 16- and a 10-year-old girl minutes apart at a bookstore and library in the Bayview and Sheppard Aves. area, court records show he had spent just two years in jail for previous attacks on kids.

The then unmarried North York graphic designer was arrested three years ago after investigators matched a DNA sample at a bookstore with one kept on his police files.

Given a 12-month sentence after being convicted of an indecent act in 1999, he was arrested two years later after a string of attacks on children in Toronto bookstores".

Suryan Giama was last seen by his family on Monday, Feb. 17th at a home in the 0-100 block of Woodview Terrace S.W.,
