''The $7 million West Point Grey mansion that was the scene of Vancouver’s first two murders of 2022 on the weekend was also home to two aggressive dogs that had been reported to the city by fearful neighbours''

''The fence surrounding the slate-grey contemporary two-storey building on West 8th Avenue at Discovery had two red beware of dog signs posted, but the property on Family Day Monday was quiet and there were no signs or sounds of the German shepherd and the golden retriever that neighbours say lived there.

The residence across from West Point Grey Park is on some of the city’s most coveted real estate, with its stunning views of Vancouver’s distant downtown skyline, was home to the murder of Shu-Min Wu, 50, and Ying Ying Sun, 39.''

''Wu is listed as the sole owner of the house in the 4300 block. It was purchased in 2012 for $5.4 million and was assessed this year for $6.9 million, according to government records.''
''A neighbour called police around 8 a.m. on Sunday after seeing the bodies in a white BMW SUV parked on Discovery Street next to the house.
“We believe these murders were targeted and hope to be able to answer the remaining questions in due time,” said VPD spokesman Sgt. Steve Addison in an email on Monday, in response to questions whether the victims were known to police, whether they had any suspects or if a family member or drugs were involved''

From the link above, this section stood out to me—it sounds like there might’ve been some animosity between the deceased and their neighbors, which I hope didn’t play a role in their murder.

“An elderly couple who have lived in their bungalow for 50 years across the back lane said they didn’t know the couple although had at times exchanged greetings. They were shocked to hear of the murders.

They, who like others interviewed on Monday, didn’t want their names published for commenting on the crimes, said they both recalled hearing a loud bang on Saturday, around 10:30 p.m., after they had both retired for the night.
“I thought it was fireworks,” said the husband, a common occurrence at the nearby park.

His wife said the two dogs at the residence would bark aggressively at her as she walked past the fenced yard, following her and barking and lunging along the length of the yard. She said she and others had reported the dogs’ behaviour to the city because she feared they could hurt someone if they got out.

A dog walker also said walking past the house without her dog set the dogs barking and a woman who lived a few doors over said she was aware of complaints to the city about the two big dogs.

“They always bark,” she said. “The kids were walking by and they (the dogs) were scaring them.”

The neighbour, who had been out of town for the weekend, said she had seen two women and sometimes a man at the residence.

“When people keep to themselves, you don’t really know them,” she said. “One time I walked by and I saw (one of the women) taking out the recycling and I said hi and she didn’t say anything.”
