Police said they were originally called to the park, off of Driftwood Avenue, southeast of Jane Street and Finch Avenue West, at 12:43 p.m. for a report of a body found.

The body, which displayed obvious signs of trauma, was recovered from a body of water in the park.
The woman is 30-years-old, police say.

Police have identified a Toronto woman who was found dead in Derrydowns Park with multiple stab wounds yesterday.
A woman walking in the park, in the Jane and Finch neighbourhood, discovered the body half-submerged in a stream at around 12:45 p.m. on Aug. 19 and called police.
The 31-year-old victim, identified Sunday as Virgil Jack, was declared dead at the scene.

An autopsy was partly completed Sunday and revealed that Jack suffered multiple penetrating wounds, investigators said.
Speaking with reporters, Det. Terry Browne said police are concerned that “this is a particularly violent act” and he urged anyone who saw or heard anything to contact investigators
Browne said a set of tire tracks were found near the entrance of the park in a place where one wouldn’t expect to find tire marks.
“It appears as though someone was in a hurry to leave very very quickly,” he said.
He said the person driving that vehicle also appears to have hit a curb and there may be significant damage to the undercarriage of the vehicle.

Virgil Jack:

Shortly before 1 a.m. on Aug. 19., the body of 31-year-old Virgil Jack was found half-submerged in a stream in Derrydowns Park.

Jack, who was pronounced dead at the scene, had suffered multiple stab wounds.

The newlywed, whose husband lived outside of Canada, lived in the Keele and Finch area, not far from where her body was found. Her roommate and Jack’s sister, who was visiting at the time, said they did not believe she was meeting anyone on the night she disappeared.

Police said Jack worked a full-time job and lived a quiet life and her death has left investigators with many unanswered questions.

Police have not yet released any information about possible suspects.

Man killed co-worker after she faked pregnancy, Crown says at opening of Toronto murder trial | The Star
"A Toronto man stabbed a co-worker dozens of times after she faked a pregnancy and claimed he was the father, the opening of a love triangle murder trial was told Monday.

After sleeping with — and falling for — her work colleague’s boyfriend, Virgil Jack pretended she was carrying Nicholas Johnson’s baby. She even asked a friend for a urine sample, but was denied, and was seen in a work washroom with a positive pregnancy test, Crown attorney Georgette Gaganiaras told a Superior Court jury.

On Aug. 19, 2017, the 31-year-old’s partially submerged body was found in a stream in a wooded area of Derrydowns Park, near Jane and Finch.

A forensic pathologist will testify he found at least 156 sharp-force injuries on her body, including 126 stab wounds and 30 other lacerations, the prosecutor said.

Johnson, 25, has pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder."

Jury is out on alleged love triangle killer of pregnant mistress
A jury is now deciding whether Nicholas Johnson killed mistress Virgil Jack in a rage because he thought she was pregnant, or if he’s innocent of the ghastly allegations.

The jury will resume deliberations Wednesday morning.

The Crown alleged Johnson drove Jack, 31, to Derrydowns Park in North York on the afternoon of Aug. 18, 2017, stabbed her 126 times and left her dead or dying in the river.

Toronto killer who stabbed one-time lover 126 times can apply for parole after 12 years, judge rules
''Summarizing the evidence heard at trial, McWatt said that within days of having sex with Johnson while his spouse was away, Jack falsely claimed she was pregnant. What followed was a barrage of angry texts and ruses as Jack sought to destroy Johnson’s relationship with his spouse, who really was pregnant.

“The deceased wreaked havoc in the couple’s life,” McWatt said, reading her decision in court Tuesday.

The judge said she found it “startling” that Johnson was gullible enough to believe Jack “in this unfortunate escapade.” The explanation, she said, lies in a psychological report submitted by the defence that found he is “intellectually delayed to some extent and obviously reacted with deadly results to the situation Ms. Jack created.”

The report found Johnson suffers from a mild to moderate level of “intellectual developmental disorder” and lacked coping strategies.''

Wow. So the judge basically blamed this on the victim. SMH.
