Is he going to try and say she returned that gas can to another Walmart?

My hubby definitely thinks Nurmi is going to say that but, I'm on the fence as to whether he'll even bring the gas cans up at all.

I think it may have been a crucial misstep that Nurmi didn't cross-exam the Walmart loss prevention employee when she was on the stand. He could have created at least a minimal smoke screen perhaps by questioning her about inventory. In other words, did that particular store's number of gas cans reconcile with what was sold, returned, on the shelf and was that information ever verified. To me, that was a huge 'elephant-in-the-room' when Nurmi said "no questions" for that witness.

I don't think it will sit well with the jurors if Nurmi comes back at the nth hour and tries to convince them she returned the gas can to a different store after she's already testified it was returned to the same store she bought it at. Maybe he'll try to convince them she was in one her "fauxgs" and was confused.

Probably his best bet is to completely avoid the gas can subject in closing rather than digging an already deep hole deeper.

I, too, anticipate

I can't see any significant changes to their continuous mantra of abuse, sex fiend using Jodi, pedo claims, and otherwise trashing of Travis.

But I suspect there will also be great focus on lesser charges.

Which, I am VERY certain, will be anticipated and prepared for by Juan Martinez, who will offer a masterful smackdown before guiding the jury to the appropriate outcome----again.

I have never heard Nurmi offer closing arguments. Since Wilmott did the opening, we have no way to know whether he maintains his unengaging drone when addressing the jury directly.

For his sake, I hope he can muster some .... personality and oomph. Because if he does not, not a SINGLE word of what he has to say will penetrate juror disgust. Even if they BELIEVE him, they have GOT to be tired of the strategy of making the victim the perpetrator.

THEY SAW THE PICTURES. They saw Travis sitting on the floor immediately prior to the attack that became his heinous murder. And Juan wove a seamless story yesterday.

Nurmi droning on for five hours is not going to change a thing.

Especially not when followed, again, by Martinez.

Wow, is there a way to find out for sure? :please:

IIRC the hearing wasn't sealed but to get access to it someone has to physically go down to the "office" and request a full transcript of the hearing. I also believe that ALV was charged with something similar to Perjury bc the DT didn't respond AT ALL when Martinez told the jurors that ALV had lied to them. KN objected several times yesterday and there were at least one sidebar yesterday so, IMO, there was a reason KN didn't want to address the ALV issue.

Question : Does anyone know IF there is a "time limit" for the defense's Closing Argument today ? THANKS !

No doubt the defense will drag this out ...

But seriously, what more can they say ? Their defense was an EPIC FAIL ... LOL !

I believe it's a 5 hour limit.

The prosecutor's point about Jodi bringing the CDs for Travis to see shows premeditation was fantastic!

Absolutely! I had not see that in these forums nor heard Nancy Grace et al discuss the CDs. It was awesome!

I am confused about one thing, however: He mentioned after the killing, JA screwed the license plate on upside down because it's less likely to get caught that way than without a plate. Huh? I'm confused about his point. Can someone clarify? TIA

There have been a few different hypotheses advanced in this forum (perhaps more).

1) Jodi removed the plate prior to arriving at TA's house so that if any of his friends saw the car near TA's house, they would not notice an out-of-state plate. Then, when the murder had taken place, she put the plate back on as she made her escape.

2) I've also read that she may have intentionally flipped the plate in Utah so that a Utah cop would pull her over, thus establishing an alibi that she was in Utah.

3) Traffic cameras cannot read a license plate if it is upside down.

I think that the first scenario is much more likely than the other two. Simply using her cell phone or her debit card in Utah would establish her presence there. Also, if the traffic cameras take a photo of a car whose plate is upside-down, the photo can easily be turned right-side-up. So I think she removed the plate to avoid identification.

But while removing the plate show premeditation, it also shows that she is not all that smart. Driving without a plate could get her stopped by the Arizona cops, thus placing her in Az and screwing up her plan. To minimize the chance of that, she'd have to keep the plate on until she was very close to TA's house. That could be accomplished easily enough since, presumably, she was only worried about being spotted within, say, a block of the house. But it slows her escape.

When she tries to leave the scene unnoticed, where does she put the plate back on? If near the house, someone might see her and that would draw extra attention. If further away, she risks being pulled over for not having a license plate. Not bright in any case.

So which part do you think she would have received the perjury charge from? I know that she did not tell the truth regarding how many times she had testified, would that be enough to perjure her and then all of her testimony is basically 'fruit from the poison tree'. I know that is usually for unlawful search and seizure but the best comparison I can draw so early in the morning.

And yes, I am drinking coffee but I think I need stronger brew today!

I believe it's a 5 hour limit.

five hours of nurmi just.....draaaaaaaging it out. And talking about sex..anal sex specifically, and using *advertiser censored*, *advertiser censored*, three-whole wonder over and over.

JM had nothing to check. There wasn't a second Walmart in Salinas until the summer of 2010

SALINAS, Calif., JUNE 29, 2010 – A new Walmart opens next week in Salinas, bringing savings on a full line of groceries and an increase in tax revenue to support the area’s economy. Nonprofit organizations will also benefit from the retailer’s ongoing charitable contributions and support for community projects. The Walmart, located 1800 N. Main St., will be open to customers at 8 a.m., Wednesday, July 7.

Thanks for finding this. :)

You dont think JW realized all along what JA was? I often wonder what they think...how they live with themselves. It must take a special kind of personality to defend such evil... To knowingly defend a guilty person.

I know someone has to do it...but still.

I use to ask myself the same questions, and must admit I have wondered on occasion how both Nurmi and Wilmott can look at themselves in the mirror everyday. Each time this thought enters my mind I think back to Daniel Horowitz, the lawyer whose wife was brutally slaughtered by a 17 year old punk for absolutely no reason. Daniel was amazing during that event and he demonstrated how important it is to sustain the adversarial system we have. I learned to agree with him because it is important. I no longer look at defense lawyers as slimey creatures, instead I understand and accept the need for them and am even thankful. As much as it pains me to say it, defense lawyers are just as essential in the fight for justice as are prosecutors. Even so, I realize there are in fact some bad defense lawyers, there are also some bad prosecutors. It happens.

I made a JA pin cushion on the weekend to edify her naked self portrait lying on the bed with braids. I'd post it here but don't know how plus she's naked and we've all seen enough of that. In any case, I've decided to watch and not just listen to Nurmi today. As I believe JA to be the puppet master of her team, each and every reference to sex from Nurmis mouth today and the pin cushion is getting it. :seeya:

:floorlaugh: Sure you have enough pins?

(Agree about the puppet master too)

I think dragging his body down the hallway and then shooting him in the face would have told her she was finished. Once she started stuffing him in the shower she knew he was dead. She took time to wash him off. With 29 stab wounds, a cut throat and a gunshot to the face.....she made sure he was dead before she left.

Exactly, it would have been interesting listening to her explain how she knew he was dead if she was in such a fog, how did she know she didn't leave him there bleeding to death? Shows once again, there was no fog and she was more concerned with not being caught than even making an anonymous call to 911 for this man she loved....

I really don't know if I can listen to the whole thing.

I said on another thread that it will be on mute the whole time--except for when I'm switching to my horseracing channel.

Hi everyone. Sure hope ALV was charged with perjury. If not, certainly her career has taken a dive. My doc appt is today so I didn't miss JM after all and certainly won't mind if I happen to miss Nurmi, Wilmot or which ever thinks they can pull a rabbit out of their hat today.

Interesting. I wonder if ALV admitted to lying during that hearing, thereby opening the door for JM to repeatedly tell the jury she lied during his close? Being charged with perjury is certainly not something she would want made public (unless she wanted to add that small detail to her already questionable CV :floorlaugh:).

Hope ALV's clients were watching yesterday. :floorlaugh:

Watching the mitigation representative during Martinez's closing yesterday I thought WTH, shouldn't you be writing down all of the mitigating points that Martinez is explaining that supports premeditated First Degree MURDER?

Part of her job was to find appropriate expert witnesses to testify and she failed at that. It's also her job to get the defendant any type of mental or physical care she may need while in custody and she failed at that.
I'm not a mitigation specialist but apparently they must have the clinical skills required to assess the defendant for physical and mental mitigating factors. This one decided that BWS and self defense with a little PTSD added on for good measure were mitigating factors.
This has been bothering me for months. If JA was truly suffering from PTSD and was suicidal she would have required and had the legal right as an IUPG person to treatment but her mitigation specialist didn't get her any for either.
How do you then claim ongoing PTSD?

Absolutely! I had not see that in these forums nor heard Nancy Grace et al discuss the CDs. It was awesome!

When JM brought up the thought that she removed the license plate and then put it back on upside down made much more sense than what I was thinking...which would be 2 in your scenarios.

Since the roommates were saying there was no other car parked in the driveway, my assumption has always been that she parked away from the house. But didn't JM also mention that in CA there are TWO license plates, back and front? In NC we only have the back plates, no front. I hadn't thought of that either since I am used to only one.

I feel like JM really cleared up some things and am looking forward to the final to see what else he can clear up for me personally. Or at least put into perspective.
