Not familiar w/that case. Could someone give a nutshell version of what happened to Kyron?

Yes. There are a lot of similarities and it is interesting to compare when discussing the realities and possibilities of this case so I really hope my post can stay.

He disappeared from school. His step mother took him there that day and took a photo of him in front of his green tree frog exhibit. But he never made it to class. There are rumors someone saw her leave with Kyron. She claims she left without him. She also apparently told the teacher that he was going to a doctor's appt. that day but also said it was for another day. I think that was intentional to cause the teacher not to report him absent and have the school call.

Apparently the SM had sent some emails to someone indicating hatred for the sweet little boy, prior to his disappearance. Kyron's mom talked about that.

Child lived with dad and SM and visited with mom like this case, because mom had contracted cancer and could not have him full time and in OR, once you change custody it's very hard to change back.

Kyron begged his mom not to go back after a nice vacation with her. He would not say what was upsetting him.

SM is alleged to have tried to have her husband killed while she was having an affair with another guy. They set up a sting but she didn't bite.

She had a child younger than Kyron, with Kyron's dad. That kid was her focus. She posted tons of photos of the child and few of Kyron. On Kyron's last birthday she posted a photo of her child in Kyron's classroom with his whole class, and no Kyron, with the caption "Guess who went to the bathroom".

She clutched onto her husband and to the bio mom at the presser. She told everyone she failed lie detector tests. She eventually stopped talking and lawyered up. Kaine, the child's father and her husband, filed for DV protective order and for custody of their baby. She refused to cooperate with a child custody evaluation that would have involved discussing the disappearance of Kyron. She lost all custody of her prized baby as a result because she didn't want to incriminate herself.

It is believed she never saw her baby again.

She got arrested subsequently for some assault charge which I believe was eventually dropped. She tried to change her name on multiple occasions and several requests were denied. She had a record of child endangerment and DUI prior to meeting Kyron.

It is suspected that a friend of hers, who they hauled in to testify at the GJ, helped her do whatever she did to Kryon. Or covered it up. I will never forget that woman's sideways leer and smirk for the camera as she walked to the grand jury.

There have been multiple searches in specific locations that appear to me to be based on cell phone evidence, but no trace. It's very dense in the state. I think even if you had a GPS pinging you couldn;t find it without sound. Like a needle in a haystack. I feel like the county here in Gannon's case is more sparse.

private investigator breaks down GS case:

Private investigator breaks down Gannon Stauch case - KRDO

i think they have a potential suspect in mind! lots of hypothetical speech, but very telling.
Thanks swedeheart!

"He said if there's a possible suspect, or they think there eventually could be one, they would want to keep investigators' knowledge top secret. That way, they can compare their understanding of what happened, to what that suspect says happened. He says, oftentimes, that's how they're caught."

I'm just putting some questions out there to ponder. Somethings do seem amiss about this case.

1. If GS was sick, to miss school...did he go to a doctor? Did he call a nurse line? Although health information is protected by HIPAA, Bio-parents can request this information.
2. Where was GS's phone when he departed the house when GS and SM left that morning in the truck? Was it left at the house? Did it travel with him? Was it turned off/on?
3. If it did depart the house with GS that morning, did it return when the video shows that SM returned?
4. When there was a alleged search on the phone...when exactly did that search happen? Was it during the day? Was it before he allegedly left for a friends house? What did the SM say to make law enforcement believe he was a runaway, especially if he told her he was "going to a friends"?
5. Does the truck have a GPS? If so, where did the GPS say the truck traveled to that Monday? Does the SS car have a GPS? Did the GPS track on that vehicle on that Monday? If so, where to?
6. Were these vehicles impounded?
7. Did SM have her phone with her when she departed on Monday? When she returned? Was it turned off at any time during the day?

I hope this little guy is found soon. Sending prayers to the family.

I came to the threads late and apologize if it’s already been hashed out.

Your #4 raises a point I hadn’t really stopped to ponder.

If a kid w/no history of running away leaves to walk over to a friend’s house but disappears without ever getting there I’d think a parents first thought would be accident or abduction. And if the text to Dad asking for permission to see a friend was really sent by Gannon it would support accident/abduction. Is there any evidence or even statements by step <mother> that she first thought of/explored those possibilities before concluding he’d run away?

Were there things that supported the runaway theory other than the “can parents track my phone” search and not identifying any friend that had been expecting Gannon?
Did Gannon have a history of running away? If not, I bet LE was secretly questioning the runaway story very early on.

Step <mother> was going to be in LE crosshairs eventually no matter what, but claiming he was a runaway was particularly stupid IMO.

holy crap I didn't even think of that angle ... I was just thinking she was hiding because of getting death threats
Also if she is paranoid about someone recognizing her...that means someone saw her doing something while she was out and about. I’m thinking again about gas stations or someplace else on the way home.

I have a question for the more seasoned WS'ers that have follows a lot of cases. This is only my second, first being Harley. Do you think LEA would purposely lead (or not correct the assumption) the public/media perception about a person they believe committed the crime? Like they like that everybody is looking one way when in all actuality they are going in a complete opposite direction? Is that something that has happened in the past with other cases? Or do I need a WS break? lol

You may need a WS break ;) but those are great questions.

LE is under no obligation to give the public any kind of information about an ongoing investigation.
That being said, all departments have a PR person and out of a courtesy to the public, they do offer some info.
Such as, yes there is an investigation, yes this is what we're asking the public, thank you for your concern, tips to this phone number, etc.
Sometimes they'll correct what they know to be false info, and sometimes they don't even address it.
I can't say I can recall a case where LE purposely lead the public to believe something about a suspect, although it's when they don't address it (especially when it's painfully obvious, as in this case), such as "we're aware of the idea that John Doe is a suspect and we can tell you at this time, he is not, and we do not have any suspects" (which they will often say), that the public perception is just made stronger.

Just based on my experience. FWIW.

The picture of the three of them on that flyer is from when they went to Garden of Gods on Sunday. Maybe because it was the most recent picture of him, it was used. That is possible. It’s as if she was staging it. She doesn’t look happy. Kind of obligatory selfie. Poor Gannon looks happy and innocent, next to someone who potentially harmed him just a short while later.

**I’m so lost right now. I went and found this answer for someone who was asking about Gannon being absent: by the time I got back it was two pages later. I could be answering a question from thread four. Who knows? It feels like I’m on Lucy and Ethel’s assembly line trying to grab those little candies and stuff them in my mouth.

****saint, the 17 year old reported to the interviewer that she was at work and came home afterwards. It was then she claimed she saw a living Gannon. This was reported to be the day of the hike. Sunday? Who knows? This may be questionable. We only know what she tells us through msm and LE. We already know she’s deceitful. So go figure...

**The sheriff’s office told the Colorado Springs Gazette Gannon was absent on Monday. The school district said counselors would be available at the school.

Gannon’s aunt, Veronica Birkenstock, told the newspaper he nephew is quiet and a “very loving child.” She said, “Disappearing is totally out of his character; he always has to be with somebody.”

Gannon and his family have lived in several different areas in the U.S., including at Fort Greeley in Alaska. They have also lived in South Carolina, where his mother and father are originally from.

Also on Thursday, a Sheriff's Office patrol car with two deputies was parked for an extended period of time across the street from the Stauch family home, and two other men appearing to be law enforcement officers sat in an unmarked car down the street.
However, the officers left the scene after two men and a woman got into a pickup truck parked in the driveway, and drove away.
Many people on social media are wondering why more information about Gannon isn't available. As KRDO NewsChannel 13 reported Wednesday, it is the policy of the Sheriff's Office to investigate reports of missing children aged 10 and older as runaways, until evidence is found to prove an abduction or kidnapping has taken place.

At one point, deputies thought GS had stopped by the *advertiser censored* & Go convenience store on Mesa Ridge Parkway Monday night, but after the mother reviewed the surveillance, she confirmed it was not her son.
The sheriff's office says they have information that leads them to believe Gannon ran away. They did not elaborate further. 11 News asked EPSO Wednesday if GS is still considered a runaway and was told he is. Law enforcement and family are concerned about GS's wellbeing and are anxious to find him. GS's father is a member of the National Guard, and the Guard is also assisting with search efforts.

"She doesn't have very much, just what she's been told, that no one has seen GS since Monday," Birkenstock said.
She characterized GS as "a very loving child. Disappearing is totally out of his character; he always has to be with somebody. He's very quiet, very smart."
GS's mother, who lives in South Carolina, and father, who was away for military training at the time of his disappearance, share custody, she said.
Information received during an interview with GS's stepmother and other information lead deputies to believe he's a runaway instead of a missing person, Mynatt said Tuesday, adding that foul play is not suspected.

The search for GS remains an active investigation and the Sheriff's Office said deputies are following up on all potential leads that might help them to find the boy, including continued witness interviews and evidence collection.
Deputies said they have received multiple tips since GS was reported missing. Deputies also said while they are monitoring social media, they are not using it for tips.
At Thursday’s press conference deputies said repeatedly that the main focus of the investigation at this time is to find GS. They also said that while they have been in contact with local trash companies and landfills, there are no searches taking place at those locations at this time.

LS/TS explained that on Sunday, she took GS and his younger sister hiking at the Garden of the Gods Park. Afterward, they stopped by to eat at Burger King, she said. GS reportedly did not attend school the following day.
...
Reportedly, LS/TS did not know which friend’s house the boy went to on Monday, according to AS, who said his wife told him that GS didn’t specify which friend he wanted to visit, NBC 5 reports. The stepmother said she couldn’t comment on the details of the case at this time.
...
“My husband’s ex-wife is living in our home,” the woman complained. “I took care of GS for the last two years in our home because his mother didn’t want to do it…OK, and I would never, ever hurt this child.”

==============
As of Friday afternoon, the sheriff's office had received more than 70 tips in the case.
On Thursday, 11 News learned The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) deployed a consultant from their Team Adam program to help. Team Adam is a free resource provided by the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children to law enforcement. Named after Adam Walsh, the abducted and murdered son of NCMEC co-founders John and Revé Walsh, Team Adam provides rapid, on-site assistance to law enforcement (LE) agencies and families in critical cases of missing children.
The National Guard has also dispatched some of its troops to help. GS's father is a member of the Colorado National Guard.
Civilian-led search parties have combed the area in and around the Lorson Ranch neighborhood, where Gannon's home is located.
"So far, we've had random people going out anywhere they can," said Sara Robertson, one of the volunteers searching for GS Wednesday. "We decided to have more of an organized community around here, so we're all meeting here and heading out in different directions. We have about 40 per group. We have it gridded out checking every neighborhood all the surrounding grassy areas and fields ... looking in holes, in culverts, in ditches, anything we can do."

El Paso County Sheriff’s Office gets new evidence in search for missing 11-year-old boy

Feb 3, 2020

EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. -- One week after an 11-year-old El Paso County boy went missing, authorities received a new piece of evidence to further the investigation into GS’s disappearance.
FOX31 obtained a copy of this evidence that came from a neighbor's surveillance camera. Authorities have asked us not to describe or show it yet because it’s a part of their investigation. To ensure we don’t compromise anything in the search for GS, we are honoring the sheriff’s office request.
A few doors down, neighbor RD did some investigating on his own.“I couldn’t sleep so I just stayed up and I started looking through [surveillance footage],” RD said, adding, “I looked through on my tablet, then I said, 'Let me look on my TV to be sure.”Police have asked us not to share what he found yet.“This is something the investigators are looking into and it would be part of our investigation,” Kirby said. RD took the footage to GS’s father, who immediately called detectives.“He just broke down crying,” RD said. RD says detectives were moved by the footage too.
“They said this is the break they needed,” RD said.

11 year old missing from Colorado Springs, Colorado

Note- GS was not seen at *advertiser censored* & Go convenience:
At one point, deputies thought Gannon had stopped by the *advertiser censored* & Go convenience store on Mesa Ridge Parkway Monday night, but after the mother reviewed the surveillance, she confirmed it was not her son.
The sheriff's office says they have information that leads them to believe Gannon ran away. They did not elaborate further. 11 News asked EPSO Wednesday if Gannon is still considered a runaway and was told he is. Law enforcement and family are concerned about Gannon's wellbeing and are anxious to find him. Gannon's father is a member of the National Guard, and the Guard is also assisting with search efforts.

Information received during an interview with Stauch's stepmother and other information lead deputies to believe he's a runaway instead of a missing person, Mynatt said Tuesday, adding that foul play is not suspected.

"We covered a ten-mile radius around his home," says Sara Robertson, an organizer of the search effort. "He left his phone at home, so he can't call anyone. He could be cold, hurt or lost. Some of these volunteers took off from work to be here. We just felt that we needed to do something."
A small group of volunteers searched an open area dotted with homeless camps near the intersection of Platte Avenue and Wooten Road in east Colorado Springs, around 10 miles from the main search area. No specific reason was given for that search.

The school district told the Colorado Springs Gazette Gannon was absent on Monday. They said counselors would be available at the school.

He said they are looking at persons of interest, but only meaning that they are people that could give them additional information about Gannon.

Tecia Stauch stood with her back to the camera while she was speaking with CBS 11 on Friday afternoon, in connection with her missing stepson, Gannon Stauch. She was insistent that she would never harm the child, who vanished while under her care.
...
Tecia Stauch explained that on Sunday, she took Gannon and his younger sister hiking at the Garden of the Gods Park. Afterward, they stopped by to eat at Burger King, she said. Gannon reportedly did not attend school the following day.
...
Reportedly, Tecia did not know which friend’s house the boy went to on Monday, according to Al Stauch, who said his wife told him that Gannon didn’t specify which friend he wanted to visit, NBC 5 reports. The stepmother said she couldn’t comment on the details of the case at this time.
...
“My husband’s ex-wife is living in our home,” the woman complained. “I took care of Gannon for the last two years in our home because his mother didn’t want to do it…OK, and I would never, ever hurt this child.”
...
“I was denied, I was told I couldn’t get nothing to drink, I couldn’t go to the bathroom. I mean it was continually that my constitutional rights were violated,” she explained.

The National Guard has also dispatched some of its troops to help. Gannon's father is a member of the Colorado National Guard.
Civilian-led search parties have combed the area in and around the Lorson Ranch neighborhood, where Gannon's home is located.
"So far, we've had random people going out anywhere they can," said Sara Robertson, one of the volunteers searching for Gannon Wednesday.

-- One week after an 11-year-old El Paso County boy went missing, authorities received a new piece of evidence to further the investigation into Gannon Stauch’s disappearance.
FOX31 obtained a copy of this evidence that came from a neighbor's surveillance camera. Authorities have asked us not to describe or show it yet because it’s a part of their investigation. To ensure we don’t compromise anything in the search for Stauch, we are honoring the sheriff’s office request.
A few doors down, neighbor Roderrick Drayton did some investigating on his own.“I couldn’t sleep so I just stayed up and I started looking through [surveillance footage],” Drayton said, adding, “I looked through on my tablet, then I said, 'Let me look on my TV to be sure.”Police have asked us not to share what he found yet.“This is something the investigators are looking into and it would be part of our investigation,” Kirby said.Drayton took the footage to Stauch’s father, who immediately called detectives.“He just broke down crying,” Drayton said.Drayton says detectives were moved by the footage too.
“They said this is the break they needed,” Drayton said.

However, neighbor Rockerick Drayton said he searched through his home surveillance video as the search intensified. Drayton said the video showed LS/TS and GS get into a red pickup truck in the driveway of their home around 10:15 a.m. About four hours later, the truck returns to the house and LS/TS gets out of the vehicle alone.

I should have edited my post to include....where was the 17 year old daughter on Monday morning. The SM made it a point in pulling in her "child" as a witness as to seeing GS after the family hike on Sunday, seriously, how far can a 5-6 year old hike?!

Missing Oregon boy's father files for divorce, gets restraining order

Thank you! Most of this I didn’t know. It will be interesting to learn if there were similar signs of strife in Gannon’s house.

As I recall, it was pretty clear Kyron’s step mother disappeared him. It’s dismaying they never arrested her—I’m sure they would have had they found his little body.

I agree it will be even harder to find Gannon unless they have very good info leading to a specific location, and I hope beyond all hope even if Gannon isn’t found the stepmonster pays. Fortunately, DA May has shown he doesn’t need a body to fight for justice.
