WHEAT RIDGE, Colo. (KDVR) — Concern is growing for a woman who was dropped off at Anderson Park and failed to return a week ago.

The Wheat Ridge Police Department said it has extensively searched for Gloria Gonzales, a 73-year-old woman who suffers from Alzheimer’s and dementia.

Gonzales was dropped off at Anderson Park at 4355 Field St. on May 25. She never returned home, and her husband reported her missing two days later.

Police said Gonzales enjoys walking from the park to her home on a regular basis.

WRPD said they have done the following to try and find Gonzales:

  • A bloodhound track (using a canine and handler contracted with Bloodhound Man Trackers Inc) was utilized over the weekend and then again on May 31
  • The Colorado Bureau of Investigation issued a Silver Alert
  • A green belt in the area has been subject to an exhaustive search by officers on foot and ATV
  • Detectives and officers have canvassed surrounding neighborhoods for useful surveillance footage and followed up on all leads developed as a result.

Gonzales is described as:

  • Hispanic
  • 5 feet 5 inches tall
  • 135 pounds
  • Long brunette hair
Police said she was wearing a black blouse, fuzzy blue and pink pajama pants, and white tennis shoes when she was dropped off at the park last week. She was also carrying a black backpack and a red and black blanket.

If you have seen Gonzales or knows where she may be located, please call 911 immediately.

Missing for a week already... Why would Gloria's husband wait two days to report her as missing?

My friends husband runs away so fast. He has hitchhiked out of town. She had to buy a tracker. He has Altzheimers too but has a couple minutes that he makes sense. Always wants to go to his sisters house. Sister has been dead for years. House sold to new people. Cold she be like this?

"This is not the first time she has gone missing. She was reported missing last year when a similar event occurred but was fortunately located safely."
I agree that mental health/other health of the husband may play a role. If not, it sounds very suspicious/neglectful imo that he waited 2 DAYS to report her missing, especially since she has a history.

The link in post #1 now states
"Wheat Ridge PD tweeted out early Saturday morning that 73-year-old Gloria Gonzales had walked away from a park on Wednesday and hasn’t been seen since.
Police had previously reported that Gonzales was last seen leaving Anderson Park located at West 44th Avenue and Field."
She was spotted leaving the park, so she could be anywhere now

I agree, it does seem kind of odd to let someone with dementia & Alzheimer's to walk home alone, imo. I wonder how far away is her home from the park?

Even if that park was across the street from her home, it would not help if at the moment she did not remember where her house is or how it looks. People affected by Alzheimers can get totally lost at their own doorstep, so I am truly surprised that Gloria was just dropped in a park, without no caregiver.

Moo,..we do not know the husband's mental health. That may have something to do with the situation. Moo
Caregiving for a person with dementia/Alzheimers is very exhausting, both mentally and physically and Gloria's husband is an elderly person himself, so if he is a sole caregiver here, I can imagine it driving him to a very very bad mental place.

I just saw that. Facebook
Please BOLO (Be On the Lookout) and SHARE: we had a possible Gloria Gonzales sighting (missing/endangered 73-year-old Wheat Ridge resident with Alzheimer’s/dementia) late yesterday afternoon at Harlan and 18th. She was last seen leaving northbound on Harlan (Edgewater). A red and black blanket Gloria was said to have had with her was recovered by our officers in a trash can at a park in this area.

This new surveillance photo— which we believe is likely Gloria— captured her wearing different clothing than what she was wearing when her husband dropped her off at Anderson Park May 25th and she failed to return home.

Please be looking for this woman— dressed in an orange T-shirt, dark zip-up hoodie, and blue or purple beanie with her hair tucked up inside. She’s also carrying white plastic bags.

[UPDATE | June 2, 11:22 a.m. — The Edgewater Police Department found Gonzales around 11 a.m. on June 2 after being missing for a week. She's being taken to the hospital for medical assistance and to ensure she's unharmed.]
