A couple days ago, I think someone here mentioned that LE was stopping cars and taking swabs which I am assuming was for DNA testing or something.

Just wondering if we know for sure that this indeed was happening and just wondering if anyone knows anymore details about this.

I found that very interesting and it gave me hope that LE may have gathered some DNA somehow from the items found. The interesting thing to me is that if they do have DNA, they would first want to check their databases, and so if they were just stopping cars, that kind of told me that they must not have had any matches on anyone, which would mean the perp(s) was not in their database for other crimes, which I found kind of surprising. If it is a young perp(s), I suppose it could be his first real crime, but it is hard to think that this perp(s) would have progressed right to violent murder without having some sort of criminal background. Unless he recently arrived from another country, and maybe had a criminal background in another country.

Anyway, just wondering if we know more about any sort of DNA testing related to this crime.

Found this so far, boss is here, so can't keep searching right now:

Last Thursday, Melinda Bench, who lives in the neighborhood where Jessica’s backpack was found two days after her disappearance, said two FBI agents showed up at her home asking if her husband would submit to a DNA swab.

“They came to our door at 9 p.m., and we have two small children,” said Bench. “It was kind of frightening. They said it was the best time to get people to do this because it is the only time they were at home. My husband was fine with it. If this is what they needed to do he was fine with it.”

Bench said the FBI agents told her they were also collecting swabs from male residents who live near Jessica’s house, as well as near Pattridge Park, where her body was discovered by a road crew doing clean-up work. “They clearly have DNA coming from somewhere. They wouldn’t put in that much effort if there wasn’t any evidence,” Bench said.

Special Report: up to 6 serial killers murdered dozens over 20-year span in Denver metro area

By KIRK MITCHELL

An average of twice a year between 1975 and 1995, the nude body of a young girl or woman appeared along rural roads and fields encircling Denver. Many were teen-agers.

Most of the murders were never solved, and a new effort is underway by a loose-knit group of cold case detectives from around the metro area who are trying to find the answers in the decades-old killings.

Those detectives have submitted evidence from various cases the Colorado Bureau of Investigation for DNA testing, hoping new technology might identify a prolific killer — or killers.

The work is driven by a simple belief: That anywhere between four and up to a half-dozen serial killers were stalking Denver-area streets between 1975 and 1995, according to detectives, murdering an untold number of women. Some investigators believe the number of victims may be as few as 17 — or as many as 38.

Authorities believe convicted serial killer Vincent Groves, who died in prison, was responsible for as many as 11 murders.

The following are 27 cases not believed to be connected to Groves. All but two are unsolved. Many of the following cases have links to cold case profiles:

And if we're talking news in Colorado, can we go back to the fire in RMNP? Why the heck did we get a wildfire this late in the season? .
There were fire warnings out before the fire started. Conditions are still dry, unseasonably warm and windy. It doesn't take much. IIRC, there were fall fires in Boulder County in the fall a couple of years ago.

As for why it started: people are stupid. We were up in the mountains in July when they'd canceled fireworks and everything because the fire danger was so high, and heard from a bookstore owner up there that she'd come across people camping with a campfire. They claimed they didn't know there was a fire ban--never mind all those lighted signs saying FIRE BAN - EXTREME FIRE DANGER all over the county. She made them put it out, but was out walking her dog the next morning and they had one going again.
:banghead:

I would however, be willing to bet on some serial arsonists in the area....

the report I just posted happened last night at 8pm.(wed night)
It was reported Wednesday but the Littleton attempt happened on Monday (same day as the girl on Arvada reported someone following her on the way to school).

It could just be me, but something about the Littleton one seems off -- especially the part about trying to grab a 14-year-old boy. Maybe he was an especially small 14-year-old boy? It doesn't seem particularly similar to any of the Arvada attempted lurings. I'm also a bit surprised about the salt-and-pepper hair when his age is also described as 35-40. As I said, it seems a bit off. Maybe a bad copycat?

clu: here is an update from about an hour ago from the WPD (their facebook page) that Surfie posted.

They are thick in the investigative stage right now it would seem.

I wish they would expound on the inaccurate information being reported that they are talking about in this post. jmo

I think it could also be the remains of teen acne. I can remember a lot of people from when I was that age whose acne gradually improved until they were finally rid of it in their late 20s. This guy is 24, so he might have a few years to go.

Or maybe times have changed and there's some new treatment of teen acne that gets rid of it fast and for good as soon as it pops up?

There is - I know this is really OT but there is a medicine like this now and I want people to know about it because it made my brother feel so much better about himself. He had it REALLY BAD for years and my parents did EVERYTHING they could, finally found a doctor that prescribed him accutane. After a few months it was gone and never came back, unfortunately he has severe scaring though. Look it up if your teen has severe acne.

Ok, back to being on topic.

I noticed that too, and wondered if it had to do with the 'perp is local' and 'perp has done this before' stuff that was coming out of consultants not officially working the case.

(Please be sure to read the side effects of isotretinoin though--even its original manufacturer stopped making it due to all the lawsuits.)

Some of these Colorado Cold Case victims bear an uncanny resemblance to Jessica.

That's my 2 cents.

At least 2 of the victims look so much like each other, I thought it was the same person.

FWIW, JMO and all that

Thank you so much. That is what I wanted to re-read about. I find that so interesting that LE was collecting DNA swabs.

I dont think they would do that unless they had something to match it against. This gives me great hope they may have some DNA from the perp(s). That maybe the reason why they are quickly able to outrule the other POIs in the other cases so quickly.

If they do have the perp(s) DNA, it must mean he is not on file already which I find strange. Either a first time criminal going right to murder which is strange OR someone that just came from another country recently and had criminal record in another country.

I sure hope they have the perps DNA already.

Yes, I commented on that earlier. I wish we knew what that was specifically so we could move on. Do you have any ideas? ty

I think they are speaking to the many varied theories around what "not intact" means. The public not knowing and LE's intentional vagueness regarding this topic has resulted in some pretty wild rumors I'll bet.

I'm don't think the blue sedan man is the monster who took Jessica. First of all, I think all of his would-be victims have been males, right? How many little boys has this sicko tried to lure now? At least three or four, maybe five? He's been unsuccessful every time... so... I guess what I'm trying to say is that he's not very good at what it is that he's trying to do (which, I mean, thank God!). I think whoever took Jessica is more sophisticated and, unfortunately, is "better" at what it is that these monsters do. I could be totally off base, though.

Maybe he's changing his MO to throw LE off the track. IMO little girls are an easier mark because they are raised to be pleasers...or possibly it's their nature. Not sure but without knowing what this monster is we can't be sure that little girls are his preference, or if he has a preference. Could be that anyone would have fit the bill that particular day.

I do think they have some DNA, from what source (backpack or remains) IDK. I hope it is of the perp, but could be from whomever found either one-probably already ruled out, or anyone that may have stumbled upon either and did not report it, that's where DNA becomes useless.

I believe here was mention of the backpack possibly having every child at schools DNA on it, so it gets tricky with DNA.

Let us hope perp left it, and it is significant enough to know it could only be the perp.
