Colorado father Christopher Watts pleads guilty to murdering his wife and two children | Daily Mail Online
As part of the deal, he was sentenced to life imprisonment for the first four counts - murder.

Sentencing will begin for the other crimes on November 19.

Weld District Attorney Michael Rourke revealed after the hearing that Shanann's family did not want her husband to be executed.

He said her mother Sandra Rzucek told him: 'He made the choice to take those lives.

'I do not want to be in the position of choosing to take his.'

<modsnip> They didn’t have to die. I’m so upset.
The best outcome that we could possibly hope for, just occurred.

Shanann’s family is spared the agony of a trial.

Chris Watts finally put to rest any doubt about his guilt.

He will spend the rest of his life in prison.

Those kids and their mother are gone forever, but their killer is about to pay.

It's so hard to understand how he could want to live.
I can. He’s probably already gotten marriage proposals and love letters like Scott Peterson, Menedez Brothers, Ted Bundy, etc. he will probably get himself an inmate boyfriend like Aaron Hernandez. SW, Unborn baby boy, and girls all got death but CW got life spared. No way will he kill himself. He will be able to create a new prison life without his family he disposed of like trash. He got a good deal. He makes me puke. If there was hard evidence he couldn’t refute then seems like he would have been convicted to DP. ONLY good thing accepting plea deal no dragging family through the trial.

Live ...DA NEWS CONFERENCE
Weld County District Attorney Michael Rourke said at a news conferencethat followed the plea hearing that he went to North Carolina to speak with the Rzucek family -- Shanann's family -- in order to talk about the possibilities of prosecution in the case.

He said he explained the "extraordinary delays" that are seen in current death penalty cases, including the Nathan Dunlap case, and that the Rzuceks wanted a quicker resolution in the case.

"That, to me, was the most important consideration in deciding how to proceed with this case," Rourke said.

Rourke blamed Gov. John Hickenlooper for his stance on the death penalty, which Hickenlooper has refused to carry out while he is in office, as part of the reason for going to North Carolina to discuss the plea options with Shanann's family.

The Rzuceks also appeared at the news conference with Rourke and other law enforcement agencies but did not speak.

But, according to the same source, Chris’ demeanor changed dramatically in previous weeks. “He’s been more active,” the source says. “He doesn’t sleep all day away. He’s actively taking part in his own defense. He reads a lot, and has contact with his attorneys.”

“He’s actually very energized now,” the source continues. “He’s willing to confront reality now and to decide what his best move is. … He’s able to look at things logically now and make the right decisions for himself. He’s turned a corner.”

“Chris had to come to terms with reality,” the sour explains of his decision to plead. “He didn’t like it at all, but he’s smart enough to know that his back was against the wall, and the best thing for him to do was to plead guilty.”

“There evidence against him was overwhelming,” the source says. “There was physical evidence and his own words that would convict him. His story didn’t work.”

What a great day! RIP beautiful Shan'ann, Bella, CeCe and Nico. My heart goes out to the Rzuceks and to everyone who knew and loved Shan'ann and her darling daughters!
Nicole Atkinson is a hero, this could have turned out so differently if not for her!
