I agree everyone grieves in their own way. Who is Momma watts grieving for? I have heard nothing that sounds like grieving to me in any form.

I definitely agree that everyone grieves in their own way as well. The past few days of interviews have shown me that Mama Watts is primarily grieving for Mama Watts. That may change over time, but right now, we are only seeing The Cindy Show.

MOO.

Can you remind us who Kevin Kavanugh is. Thanks.

Kevin Kavanaugh is a local reporter who - and I hope I don’t get in trouble for this - I sat next to / on during the last hearing. We had to schooch too close for my comfort to let LRen the babysitter in to the hearing.

I’ve been following him and he’s pretty unbiased but not as much as I am. He cornered the Cindy watts interview a few days ago.

I don't consider the comments by the Watts parents to be unethical. They have the same right to freedom of speech as the rest of us and are entitled to their opinions about they way they feel they--and their son--have been treated by the public defender's office. As victims, they can express their concern to the Court that their grandchildren are not receiving justice if the wrong parent is pleading guilty for a crime he did not commit.

The Judge considers the paternal grandparents victims and I doubt they remain silent after the hearing on Monday if the Judge accepts the guilty plea. JMO
Freedom of speech becomes slander and defamation when it is false and damages the reputation and good name of another. So far the Watts’ have said some pretty vicious things about Shanann. They better watch it. They might get slapped with a lawsuit and lose everything they have. Did you catch the end of Frank and Sandra Rzucek‘s response to the first Watts’ interview? “Shanann’s memory and reputation deserves to be protected. And her family is fully prepared to do so.”

“Weld County District Attorney Michael Rourke said his office may be able to answer some questions about what motivated the heinous crime after Chris Watts is formally sentenced to life in prison on Monday, but conceded that much of what happened the day of Aug. 13 will remain a mystery.“

Snip

“It’s not clear if Chris Watts will speak at his sentencing hearing.

9NEWS will be in the courtroom and will provide updates on air and online.“

Chris Watts case: What we know now and what's next

Is there any chance CW stands up at this sentencing and makes any kind of statement, or even acknowledges he committed these crimes? Yes, I know, I know, magical thinking I'm sure.

If there is no chance of an "appeal" since he is pleading guilty, he doesn't need to carefully word what he says. (As opposed to when defendants say, "I'm sorry for the loss of your daughter" or "I'm sorry for your pain" or "I understand I will be sentenced for the crime I am convicted of" - but never actually admit to the crime, because they have usually been advised not to jeopardize an appeal.)

But... he doesn't strike me as the type who will do the honorable thing and apologize to SW's family (and his own). Taking the plea deal and not putting everyone through this had given me a tiny bit of hope, but based (imo) on everything we have seen from him to date, it is to protect his own self interests, not because it's the "right" thing to do. It would just benefit both families if he admitted to his crimes and showed remorse, but why am I even thinking he would show empathy for anyone besides himself.

I wonder if he will say anything at all besides answering the judge's questions and acknowledging the plea agreement and sentence.
If he does get up to speak I’ll be shocked if he apologizes for what he did. He may apologize for hurting his family but I expect he will insinuate he really didn’t kill the girls or if he did it was SW’s fault. As much as I’d like to see him remorseful I’ll be happy if he keeps his butt in his chair until the court officers escort his manacled *advertiser censored* out of there.

Where I live we also have freedom of speech, which means that you can say whatever you like, but have to be prepared to prove that said speech is true, in a court of law if the person you are slandering chooses to make you prove it. It does not mean that you can lie and defame someone.

Something from the previous thread, I started answering before realizing it was a wrong thread.

For some people it doesn't take long to get obsessed with somebody. Even if she wanted to take it slow he could have already fallen deeply in love with her. But I wouldn't be suprised if there had been also many other reasons/affairs/whatever.

There are very many questions related to CW's behavior at that time. Frankly, I am a little bit concerned with SW's post where she mentioned him becoming very talkative on patches. I do not think it were the patches (because otherwise people would be standing in line for this stuff), but if the observation was true, one can't but keep wondering about CW's state of mind that summer. Mega-doses of caffeine would deprive one of sleep, and very unusual things might happen if a person does not sleep.

But about the way CW thinks in general, I think he might get obsessed, or rather, create multiple imaginary worlds. In one, he is the father of three kids living with SW, in another, a divorced father living in an apartment with NK and kids, in the third, a totally free, eligible bachelor.

I remember SP calling Amber Frey from a vigil to say that he was in Paris. I always thought that SP had good Emotional Quotient, but his ability to dissociate and escape into imaginary world is not unlike that of CW.

I'm sure most people would agree with that. I don't think anyone is judging anyone for that. And there is nothing wrong with sharing those thoughts with family members and friends. It is the fact that this women is basically telling millions of people how she feels and making an effort to let everyone know that she thinks the victim is more likely to have killed her own children because of what a horrible woman she was. That is what the problem is. Not that they don't empathise with the way people grieve. Imo

That's exactly it.

I do empathize with the horror of it and not being able to believe it. Or accept it.

It's the last part.

You know I think deep grief can clarify what's important about life and death and your soul. It really can. I think it can make people more generous. More empathetic. More self-sacrificing. More protective of others who grieve.

I think it's only bad people who hurt others in such a monstrous way, in order to spare themselves or express their rage.

Liars are liars, no matter what their IQ is.

It will be interesting to see. He can make a statement. I wonder if he will?

Poll anyone? How many believe he will make a statement apologizing or otherwise taking some responsibility and how many think e won't make a statement at all?
I think he will. I’d put it at 85%.

I never thought he’d plead, and we know that he cares deeply about his image.

This is his final chance at relevancy, something that no narcissist could pass up.

I’m predicting something that actually comes close to sounding like an apology, although his lack of tears will belie this effort.

He will forever hold on to the truth. And whatever he says will minimize his culpability.

I’ve seen this act too many times before.

@gitana1 What do you think?

I have lost two family members under the age of 3 so I get it. I don’t have on some rose glasses here.

And some of us have actually lost children. I am not judging her on her grief, I'm judging her on the very nasty and public things she has said and insinuated about a murdered pregnant woman-an actual member of her family.
