I'm so sick of these weirdos. I know this didn't come out of nowhere. I'm now of the belief that we need to start institutionalizing all these "troubled" males and we as a country need to stop tolerating these nuts in the community, BEFORE they end up at this point.

You can bet I'm side-eyeing any potential nut when I'm out and about from now on.

Hey, so I guess we throw out the 2nd amendment......I have a serverly brain injuried husband, that has a right to own a gun to protect himself with! So most people would say he is odd, however he has never harmed anyone and it would be a cold day in hell that I would allow anyone to step on his rights and lock him away! That is not to say if his family or his doctor thought he was a danger, then we would ofcourse act.....But I don't need big brother tell me how he should live!

Another person posted that they did not believe a kindergarden teacher would own weapons like these! Why not?

There is no way to stop things like this, the man that shot my husband had a legal gun, it wasn't the gun, it was the *advertiser censored**hole that shot him!:furious:

This is horrible news, and I know we are all lashing out! Lets allow all teacher who want to learn how to shoot a weapon, have a permit to carry on to school campus! That would have stop this shooting earlier!

I don't understand why the police left before the father arrived home if they hadn't been able to locate, inform and question him yet.

No one should hear something like that from a reporter.

The horror of what's happened today, and the situation as it unfolds, is uncannily reminiscent of the Dunblane massacre in Scotland, when 16 of our tots and their teacher were gunned down. Our kids were all in one room and the shooters' intention was clearly to kill them all as he was loaded down with ammunition. Thankfully there were survivors, some with serious injury and some saved by a teacher, who was shot, but was able to hide them under gym equipment in the cupboard.

It rocked our country to the core, and I wept for weeks. I'm so desperately sad watching all the reports today and reading you guys' posts and bewilderment with why it's taking so long to remove the little ones from the school. Although I accept the police were overwhelmed by the unprecedented level of horror encountered (in Dunblane), they also kept the parents of the dead and injured segregated in a room for FIVE hours without any information whatsoever. Then called out the parents of the injured tots in small groups at a time. The parents who were left knew their children must not have survived, and still they waited. I was in knots today hoping this wouldn't be happening to these heartbroken parents today, not that anything will make it any easier for them, but I'm glad to know they didn't have to endure that too.

It sent chills up my spine, if I could be chilled anymore today, to hear the Mayor say the words "Evil visited us today" - the very words the Principal of Dunblane primary used in his first words to media. The children were not removed until late into the night also, until forensics, ballistics, etc., were completed.

I believe Adam Lanza has now been officially named as the shooter. May he rot in hell. And may these precious little tots play together forever, wherever they are. So heartbroken for everyone concerned and send love from Scotland to all.

STAMFORD -- The father of the 20-year-old man who allegedly massacred 20 young children and six adults including his mother, lives in the Westover section of the city.
Stamford police were called to the Bartina Lane home of Peter Lanza and his wife hours after the Newtown elementary school shooting by State Police to conduct a welfare check.
The suspect has been preliminarily identified as 20-year-old Adam Lanza. Lanza grew up in Newtown with his parents Nancy and Peter before they filed for divorce in 2008.
Adam Lanza was killed in the shooting.
Police remained at the Bartina Lane home for at least 30 minutes and declined to comment on the reason for their presence.
Peter Lanza, a vice president of taxes for GE Energy Financial Services, arrived home minutes after police left and politely asked a Hearst Connecticut Media Group reporter: "Is there something I can do for you?" after rolling down the window of his blue Mini Cooper.
When he was told his address had been linked to the Newtown school shooting, Lanza took the news as a blow -- his face turning from patient to surprised and horrified. He promptly rolled up the window of his car, declined to comment, and pulled his vehicle into the right door of the two-car garage, before closing it behind him.
Moments later he could be seen sitting at a table in the front of the house, talking on the phone.
Lanza has worked as a tax specialist in the financial industry and has served as an adjunct professor at Northeastern University in Boston since 1995 and has taught classes on tax partnerships at Fairfield University.
According to a neighbor, Lanza and his wife were married fairly recently. While his wife has lived in the neighborhood for at least a decade, Lanza only moved in a few years ago, at about the time they got married.

Holy sh**.

That poor man!!!

Neighbors are not usually reliable diagnosticians when it comes to mental illness. But it's entirely possible that the shooter was mentally ill and also developmentally delayed, with autism or Aspberger's. He was an adult, so his parents and other family may have had very little they could do to control his actions. If he knew how to get guns, it is pretty likely that they could not have stopped him or that some of them died trying.

I'm so sick of these weirdos. I know this didn't come out of nowhere. I'm now of the belief that we need to start institutionalizing all these "troubled" males and we as a country need to stop tolerating these nuts in the community, BEFORE they end up at this point.

I'm sorry, I must be misunderstanding---are you referring to people with developmental disabilities and/or autism as "weirdos?" I'm hoping it's the passion of the day and that we can all agree people who engage in violent acts are problematic, but painting people with DD and/or autism with a wide "weirdo" brush isn't productive, accurate, or kind. I sincerely apologize if I misunderstood. A poster down-thread mentions that individuals on the autism spectrum are more likely to be the victims of violence than the perpetrators.

In any case, this whole event is just heart-wrenching! I predict my school will be doing some extra lock-down reviews and drills after the winter break. Kindergarteners! :( I teach preschool and my heart breaks at the thought of all those bright-eyes little learners being shot down so heinously. How awful.

CNN just reported that one of the suspect's brothers was found dead in Hoboken.

The suspects brother, Ryan, is dead??? I thought he was in for questioning?? if its not Ryan, who was found dead?

Rita Crosby was talking earlier about who the other person was with the Mom.
She had talked with a neighbor that knew the family well. This person only knew of the 2-sons, not a 3rd one.

I am still not sure if this was a brother. But guss till I see LE say so, not sure what to belive at this point.

No, it's not the place to argue but you can equally say what went wrong today was there were too many guns.

That was my point exactly.

I was asking the poster I quoted to please NOT say that what went wrong today was that there weren't enough guns.

And once again, they were legally obtained and registered.

RIP little ones. Heartbreaking.

Who was the guy they got out of the woods? I don't have a link - it was live on CNN first thing this morning - when it was all just unfolding. I saw the K-9's with the officers and then one officer leading a guy in handcuffs out of the woods right in front (back?) of the school. It was said that the guy told people he walked by that he didn't do it. I saw it.

So now if AL was the shooter and RL is in New Jersey - then who was this guy? Honestly, at first, my first thought was that he was a hunter - he was in camo. I don't know. But I do know what I saw and they did get someone out of those woods by the school at the very beginning. If he wasn't involved at all - then let us know. But confirmation one way or the other would be appreciated.

JMHO

Since they said he was in the woods and in camo but didnt say exactly where they found him I bet he was a hunter and not involved.

WE know how the reporting has been in this but I did hear that the guns were registered in her name. jmo

From what I've heard they haven't even put a prelim id on the kids yet - and are working on taking photos of the deceased to show them to waiting families.

I had a neighbor who lost a daughter at Virginia Tech, and the parents were allowed to view the deceased immediately when asked - although finding the various morgue sites was a little bit of an effort. There were many.

But really, it's been at least 6 hours since they've had these loved one's remains and haven't allowed family to know.

BBM. I'm not sure what you mean by haven't allowed family to know, but earlier MSM reported all the victims families have been notified and someone has been assigned to each of them as they work through this process.

Also, according to MSM many extra medical examiners have been called in due to the number of autopsie's needing to be performed.

Thank you so much for the sincere post, ScotAng. I'm sorry your country experienced such horror, too. It means a lot to me personally that you're grieving with us.

People have been armed to the the teeth for how long? I am not disagreeing with you, but what is going on in these times that causes these lunatics to go shooting everyone including babies?

May God be with the families that have lost their babies. I can't even fathom.

FWIW my grandfather was murdered in cold blood at a fairly young age by a kid. Shotgun. My grandmom and mom have always said it was the kid and not that shotgun that murdered my Pop.

Again my prayers are with the family of these babies.

It's alot harder to shoot someone without the gun. :(

If they are registered to his mother and not to him then he did not legally obtain them imo. In fact imo he stole them using one on his own mom and took her other guns to school to murder people there.

The only way he would have legally obtained them is for them to be in his name only.

IMO

Wow I think emotions are running high here...I think some may need to step away for a minute and re-read...I don't think anyone is intending to target a specific group of people or make sweeping generalizations. JMO

The comment about a kindergarten teacher not owning two assault rifles and a big ol' Glock was mine. I think this teacher bought them for her son.

The following is only my opinion/feelings and in no way intended to wrinkle any feathers but I'm really not understanding why the gun debate is even being addressed at this point. In a few days, when the details about the shooters mental state, previous incidents, etc... come to light, maybe. But there are parents grieving the loss of a child, 11 days before christmas. Possibly siblings who made it out alive who's little brother or sister did not. SOmeone's wife, husband, mother, daughter, son, etc.... lost their life today. And had he stabbed them or blown up the school, I don't think it would make the grief anyless painful.

Same for me. When Dunblane occurred I thought it something once in a lifetime. Little did I realize it was, sadly, the future.
