Places to avoid while this is going on? The economic impact IMO will be severe.

Here's a few on my immediate thought list. Please add your ideas... Planes, trains cruise ships. Buffets and salad bars, Casinos, sporting events, movie theaters, Costco and Walmart. Swap meets and large Farmer's markets. Large busy restaurants, large music concerts, emergency rooms, large parties and conventions.
I am talking about avoiding, not banning.
As this virus seems to be moving rapidly, these are my thoughts.
Am I over thinking this?
Your ideas and thoughts? TIA
Good thoughts, but when should we start avoiding all this and for how long? This could go on all through 2020.

Now, and until it is gone. Really, my husband wanted to go out to dinner tonight, and honestly, after the news briefing about the virus, the last thing I wanted was a stranger preparing my food.

I am usually weird that way, anyway...but now?! He is eating at home!

I had that same thought when I let my local community page on Facebook know about the 20 packages of masks I didn’t buy at the local hardware store, all N95. I got absolutely blasted about being fear mongering. It’s not like I have any $ involved, if people want to know where to find masks that aren’t inflated on price I thought I was being helpful. I’ll take some protection over none as long as I’m aware of the risks.
You did the right thing. And the people that really wanted the masks were on their way to the store while the others were complaining! ;)

Saudi Arabia suspends Umrah pilgrimage over coronavirus
''RIYADH

Saudi Arabia has temporarily suspended entry into the country for Muslims seeking to perform Umrah due to fears over the spread of the deadly novel coronavirus, local media reported Thursday.

Citing the Saudi Arabian Foreign Ministry, the Arab News website reported that the suspension also applies to those seeking to visit the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah.

Umrah, or the lesser pilgrimage, can be performed at any time during the year.''

How coronavirus spread through the Shincheonji religious group in South Korea - CNN
''Illness was never accepted as a valid reason to miss services at the Shincheonji religious group, says former member Duhyen Kim.
This is an organization that took roll call, he says, and everyone had to physically swipe in and out of services with a special card. Any absence was noted and followed up on.
"The culture was, even though you're sick you come in on Sunday. If you're so sick you can't come Sunday, you have to come on Monday or Tuesday -- you have to make up for the time," Kim says. He describes how, when he was a member, followers would sit on the floor during hours-long services "packed together like sardines."
The religious group -- an offshoot of Christianity -- is now at the heart of South Korea's novel coronavirus outbreak, particularly in the city of Daegu.
South Korean authorities believe a large number of cases in the country attended a Shincheonji service or have been in contact with attendees.''

No way to know exactly. It's a constantly evolving situation.
Right now, I'm not too worried about it.
My concern is, if it starts to mutate and get deadlier.
Also the economic fallout.
I own a restaurant. If people start deciding to not go out to eat, I'm in serious financial trouble.
For all the problems owning a restaurant bring, this situation is one I NEVER thought of!
Should we put all of our staff in hazmat suits? Sheesh. Truly stymied about how to handle this situation if it gets bad.

How on earth did I miss this??! Sorry if already posted and discussed. (I can’t tell when exactly this article was written?).

Japanese woman confirmed as coronavirus case for second time, weeks after initial recovery

“The woman, a resident of Osaka, in western Japan, tested positive on Wednesday after developing a sore throat and chest pains, the prefectural government said in a statement, describing her as being in her forties. She first tested positive in late January and was discharged from hospital after recovering on Feb. 1, according to the statement.
....

"Once you have the infection, it could remain dormant and with minimal symptoms, and then you can get an exacerbation if it finds its way into the lungs," said Philip Tierno Jr., Professor of Microbiology and Pathology at NYU School of Medicine.

Tierno said much remains unknown about the virus. "I'm not certain that this is not bi-phasic, like anthrax," he said, meaning the disease appears to go away before recurring.”

Coronavirus: How the deadly epidemic sparked a global emergency | Four Corners / 2 days ago

I’m about halfway through this ABC News documentary right now, it’s pretty good. It shows a lot of stuff from the early days in Wuhan, detailed chats by Dr. LW, etc., and has some really good overhead drone footage in Wuhan. There’s also sad, intense footage. There’s one section where medical staff are freaking out about the dead bodies, saying they can’t take it anymore, etc. It’s quite scary and gripping to watch.

We’ve been watching all this unfold in real time so far, absorbing it in the present as it happens. It’s interesting now to watch this from a narrative timeline-type-past experience perspective and in light of the new threats at hand. Let’s hope this will not spread like it did/has in China, literally multiplying and multiplying...it’s scary to look at the numbers a month ago in China and look at them now.

I am so sorry if my tactless post upset you. Of course, people will still live and go out to eat. The world is full of happy people who will celebrate graduation, anniversaries, birthdays.

I actually just hate going out because I am vegan, and restaurants around here have nothing but meat. Anyway, back to COVID19.

This virus likes weaker people.

A lot of this stuff is the kind of things I stock up on in the winter in case we get snowed in/lose power anyway. Evaporated milk is one of them, yeast to make our own bread, and that sort of thing. That’s why comments that make it sound like we’re “prepper nuts” are so ridiculous. I’m just doing what my Midwestern mom taught me to do in the 70s - be prepared to be stuck home for a while in the winter. When I lived in the South, I loaned a lot of stuff out to friends who were unprepared for ice storms that caused power outages that lasted for days and weeks, too. Nobody thought we were prepper nuts, either, I assure you.

I can't figure out why all the pandemic lists include water and batteries. Those are hurricane power outage necessities. Why do people need to worry about a power out in a virus pandemic?

This virus likes weaker people.

I don't know, it seems to also follow the path of "1918", if you looked at the post about it. The "1918" flu hit hard on healthy people, overwhelming them with pathogens. Creating a "Cyclo Storm".

Of course, elderly people, immunocompromised people, babies are probably at higher risk. Shucks.

Has anyone found any info on when the US will get new testing kits? I can’t find anything that’s recent.

After this news of the latest California patient having been in bad shape for over a week before being tested, I’m increasingly concerned by the US testing policies and capabilities.

As someone who is living in the actual midst of multiple confirmed positive COVID19 cases, I’m really worried about our local public’s lack of awareness (SF Bay area).

No one will change their behavior until they see we have positive cases. I’m very worried that it will take weeks and weeks before a critical mass is tested here. I truly believe we have many untested positive cases here in my community, as I type.

MOO.

(Edit for clarity)

My place loses power all the time. Hurricane country but even without them we lose power about once a month (people keep driving into power poles, now they are moving them further from the road which takes power down for hours at a time). I think it’s just part of the general list. Hubby and I have discussed sickness and the power grid in the US, is it automated enough to handle quarantine? We are just playing it safe.
