Did anyone watch the 60 minutes program on CBS last night? Just curious as to what the investigation turned up regarding the faulty antibody tests.

The short version is that most of the antibody tests were unreliable and have been recalled.

There are only 16 states with an RT less than 1. And they are all pretty much creeping up.

Highest is Nevada with 1.61
Lowest is DC with .74.

I had to chuckle yesterday. Dr. Campbell was looking at rtlive and he said "DC, I'm not sure what state that is my geography isn't good". hehehe he didn't know Washington DC shorthand of our capitol.

Bars and churches have the same pandemic stats.

But bars have state-issued liquor licenses and churches are protected under the Constitution.

So.

My county refuses to shut the few bars we have (we have lots and lots of alcohol-serving food establishments, and virtually no "bars" - alcohol-only establishments).

When my husband and I went out for lunch at a local restaurant, they took my name and phone number for contract tracing purposes. Idk if that's standard for restaurants in NY or if it was something the restaurant decided to do on their own.

I have been out to a few places to eat since our restrictions loosened. No-one took our name and number - although 6 million of us have the contact tracing app on our phones - however TGIF was very different when we ate there.

Register on their app as you walk in. Then sterilise your hands at the maître d' stand. The seats and table were very mildly damp as they had just completely sterilised them. Order your food online at your table, then they bring it to you when it is ready. Knives and forks and serviettes brought to you on a platter - the whole platter wrapped in gladwrap.

As TGIF is a US entity, I think it must be their US standard.

fun fact: until the recent pandemic I had no idea it takes 5 years to bring a Broadway show to fruition.

not so fun fact: Disney already closed the ‘Frozen’ musical, claiming they ‘couldn’t afford’ to keep three musical balls juggling in the air; which strikes me as a poor decision as I would have thought it evergreen. These actors, musicians, stagehands, etc., certainly aren’t getting any money; and the Las Vegas example bobbing about, well, tourism is more of their economy than it is in NYC, in fact one might say it’s their primary economic driver. I guarantee they can’t/couldn’t afford to stay closed until 2021 or longer; and regardless of what one thinks about the viability of gambling, there are a lot of casino croupiers, waitstaff, house cleaners, hospitality people, etc. who depend upon that economy not going broke.

The economic outlook one year from now is terrible, even terrifying. And just getting started - has nothing to do with salons or bars, but with overall economic patterns and the profit margins within each corporation.

The Disney news is very sobering.

Russia is having a huge number of cases but low number of deaths. Russians must be very resilient. Kind of like Floridians.

Younger people are more social (unlike Italy or Spain.) As in, younger people are practically the only "very social" people in Russia, but due to weather and distance, Russia is still no where as social as Italy. IMO.

I went to a mall the other day, in one of the most affluent cities in Montana, Bozeman. More than half of the stores in the mall were closed. Permanently.

Granted, mall stores have been declining. But this mall had stores that were open, at Christmas time, busy, lots of shoppers. It was like a ghost town on Saturday.

Just swung by my "establishment" to gauge the reaction. People were coming in, thinking it was Armageddon. None of them bothered to check their facts, beforehand. This seems to be a problem on all side of this crisis.

Palm Beach teachers union calls for school campuses to stay closed as pandemic rages

This may not be a popular opinion. But if we are expecting other people to go to work, like police officers, nurses, garbage collectors, grocery store clerks, gas station attendants, many others in the community, then, teachers need to go back to work too.

Yes, I have taught school. Yes, I have worked continuously, full time, with the public since March.

If they don't want to go back to work, time for retirement or find other work. I respect their choice. But they can't continue to be paid, get benefits, and not go to work.

We had our schools run online for a while, when this whole thing started. The teachers were amazing and pulled together those lessons with very little notice. And the kids responded really well.

I remember one teacher got a response from one of her little students .... a page filled with hearts and other love. Her student had just discovered emojis.

A new strain of flu that has the potential to become a pandemic has been identified in China by scientists.

It emerged recently and is carried by pigs, but can infect humans, they say.

The researchers are concerned that it could mutate further so that it can spread easily from person to person, and trigger a global outbreak.
