When we give any vaccine, we ask the patient to wait 15 minutes before leaving in case they have any type of reaction. And injections of any kind should not be given unless emergency meds and equipment is available, as well as trained personnel.INO, i would hope that provision can be made for allergic individuals to have the vaccine in a hospital or other setting with immediate access to resuscitation in the rare event that it is needed.
FWIW, a friend is a senior scientist at Pfizer. He says that he will be one of the first to get the vaccine, and he wants his family members to get it as soon as it is available for the general public.
Both of the people who suffered allergic reactions to the COVID vaccine had severe allergies to the point that they carried Epi pens with them. The possibility of allergic reactions to the Pfizer vaccine is concerning. Unless they've been tested and are aware of environmental and/or food allergies, many people aren't even aware that they have allergies until they experience an allergic reaction. Allergies to medications aren't generally known until one has a reaction to a drug. I had a severe reaction to a sulfa medication for a UTI that sent me to the ER with hives and swollen tongue. Prior to the episode, I had no idea that I was allergic to sulfa. I realize that people are anxious to be vaccinated against this deadly virus, but rushing the vaccine/s to market without careful analysis of side effects and/or allergic reactions would be counterproductive. Moderna’s vaccine, which is based on messenger RNA technology and about 95 percent effective in trials, will be discussed by an expert FDA panel on Thursday. Emergency authorization could come within days, potentially making the shot the second vaccine cleared for use in the United States.

About 2.9 million doses of the vaccine are expected to be shipped within the first week.
Hospital systems nationwide should expect the first shipments of Pfizer's Covid-19 vaccine to arrive Monday, Gen. Gustave Perna, chief operating officer of Operation Warp Speed, said during a media briefing Saturday.
"Boxes are being packed and loaded with vaccine with emphasis on quality control," Perna said. Within the next 24 hours, he said, those boxes will move from Pfizer's manufacturing facility to UPS and FedEx hubs, where they will be delivered to 636 predetermined locations nationwide...

- Dr. Archana Chatterjee told CNBC on Friday she voted against recommending emergency use authorization for Pfizer's Covid-19 vaccine because she did not believe 16- and 17-year-olds should be included.
- "I want to be very clear that I am fully supportive" of clearing the vaccine for use in people 18 years and older, the dean of the Chicago Medical School said.
- "I think that we were pleasantly surprised to see that this vaccine has such good efficacy in tens of thousands of participants that were included in the trial," Chatterjee said.
