A newborn boy was found at a Stamford recycling center on Oct. 16. It is unclear whether the child, who is described as white or Hispanic, was stillborn or died after birth.

Investigators are now looking at materials that were delivered by a company that services Westchester and several towns in Connecticut.

Dead baby found in Stamford might be tied to Westchester

Circumstances of Recovery - Full-term baby boy found at the City Carting Recycling Facility with umbilical cord still attached.

''In October 2018, the remains of a full-term male infant were discovered at the City Carting Recycling Facility in Stamford, Connecticut. Waste from Connecticut, Massachusetts, and New York is collected and processed at this Fairfield County facility. Investigators with the Connecticut Office of the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office determined that the unidentified infant, who was discovered with the umbilical cord still attached, measured 21 inches in length and weighed approximately six pounds. The infant was white and had brown hair and brown eyes.

In February 2019, the case was entered into the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs) as #UP55682. With limited leads available, the case eventually went cold, despite exhaustive efforts from investigators.

In 2023, in an ongoing collaboration aimed at solving the backlog of cold cases in the state, the Connecticut Office of the Chief Medical Examiner partnered with Othram in The Woodlands, Texas to identify the infant. Anyone with information that could aid in this investigation is encouraged to contact the Connecticut Office of the Chief Medical Examiner by calling 860-679-3980 or the Stamford Police Department by calling 203-977-4921. Callers may reference case number 18-17798 or NamUs ID #UP55682.''
