One of the officers involved in the detention made public a recording he made of the encounter and defended his and the other officers' actions, denying the allegations of racism. Sgt. Jim Parker told The Times on Monday that he had been ordered to a Board of Rights hearing -- a three-person LAPD disciplinary panel -- on an allegation that he was insubordinate for speaking to the media about the incident.

Parker, a 26-year LAPD veteran, said Monday that he was surprised by the stipulation that Watts and Lucas write apology letters. But he said he was more concerned by what discipline his colleagues might face from the LAPD, and hoped the no contest plea might help their case.

"It would have been a non-issue if she had not gone public in the first place. She went public first, and I had to clear myself," Parker said. "I tried to stop it right away."​

Comment: Her behavior was appalling. She's lucky she didn't get charged with indecent exposure for having sex in public, in the middle of the day, near a school, no less! As that could have potentially landed her on the sex offender registry.

I hope the board clears Sergeant Parker.

She is disgusting and she really makes me angry. I know that block where she was parked and having sex in the open. It is FULL OF CHILDREN. That is why people called the cops on them. Kids are walking by there all of the time. It is near a school and it is the area that young actors wait for their auditions. I have stood right there with my daughter many times when she was younger.

It disgusts me that this woman LIES and accuses the officer of being racist. She was the one that was breaking the law and it had nothing to do with race. She has no shame and she still is trying to cash in on the BlackLivesMatter movement by trying to pretend this was police abuse and racism. I doubt she will ever be penalized for her own wrongdoing. The cop that arrested her finally leaked the tape of the arrest because he was so sick of her LYING about the incident. In doping so, he was demoted, and I believe he was fired.

Her/their passive-aggressive "apology" needs to be rewritten because it was essentially disproven by the audio of the arrest. The NYDN news story which Blondie in Spokane posted above (thank you!) linked it within their article:

The need to add further insult to injury is appalling. It is clear there is zero remorse here. Why allow these two to continue with the agreement with the Court if they can't even get this "apology" right? :cow:

I feel so sorry for that officer.

This week, Watts wrote a new letter in which she apologized "for my lack of emotional control" and asked for forgiveness.

But the judge wasn't convinced. Calling the apologies "insincere and passive aggressive," she sentenced the couple Wednesday to 15 days of community labor and two years of probation, the city attorney's office said....Watts said she believed the incident highlighted bigger issues about race...

(Officer) Parker said he was ordered to attend an LAPD disciplinary hearing after he was accused of insubordination for speaking to the media about the incident. He retired instead, ending his 26-year career with the LAPD in June.

Just my opinion, but I think she's severely limited those 'options', careerwise. Managed to alienate people across the spectrum.

Watts recently told news show Access Hollywood Live she was still weighing up her options after lawmakers ordered her to rewrite the apology letters
