The defense for #JimmyRodgers have been giving potential jurors hypothetical scenarios to try and get a feel for how they would decide in their client's fate. But have reminded each potential juror they believe Rodgers is innocent. @winknews #RodgersTrial

We're hearing from the 8th PJ now. It's the first one to mention any sort of religion when asked. The PJ mainly created separation from the religion they were raised and said they act spiritually without a specific religion. #trialtweets #teresasievers #jimmyrodgersontrial

Sounds like JRR will have no supporters......

With a potential trial near, family members with ties to the case were hesitant to talk.

"We prefer not to comment until everything is said and done,” said Patrick Tottenham, Teresa Sievers’ brother.

Jennie Weckelman, Mark Sievers’ stepmother, said she didn't think any of Mark Sievers’ family wanted to comment before the trial begins.

“That might not be very good for Mark’s chances for justice,” Weckelman said.

Members of the Rodgers family could not be reached for comment.

I don't understand why if they're interviewing the PJ individually now regarding their thoughts on serving on a death penalty case and they get past that why don't they just ask the rest of the questions they would ask and say they're an aye or nay to keep for the jury. I would think..IMO it would save a lot of time.

This second phase goes through general voir dire (employment, marital status, etc) and death penalty qualification. Once they get past the capital punishment phase, the attorneys from both sides will be able to strike jurors through what is called peremptory challenges. During that, both sides will be able to eliminate 10 based on their preference. Allowing both sides to do this, makes it so that both sides feel it was a fair jury. This is in every trial, and just a process that has to be followed.

Also if JRR and MS were tried together then both of them would get 10 peremptory challenges, and the State of Florida would get 20.
Since they are tried separately, JRR will get 10 and the state will get 10. Then the same at MS’s trial 10 and 10.

Once the jury is seated, one of the witnesses we expect them to hear from is Jimmy Rodgers’ former girlfriend, Taylor Shomaker, who said the suspect confessed to Teresa Sievers’ murder. She told WINK News about it in an exclusive interview in 2015.

Taylor was pregnant when she said her baby’s father, Jimmy, confessed to her that he killed Teresa. Taylor said she was in shock.

Brought a PJ out of order who had anxiety and was visibly upset. Judge released the PJ after hearing concerns that this would impact the PJs health. First release of the day, but not 100% death penalty related. #trialtweets #teresasievers #jimmyrodgersontrial #nbc2courtcoverage

Safe to say everyone is feeling day 4. Judge said "good afternoon" to first potential juror. And defense attorney Jay Brizel reversed one of his tried and true lines, "measure twice and cut once" almost was "cut twice and measure once". #trialtweets
