RIP little boy :candle:

Prosecutors say they've shown impact of boy's bombing death

"...On Tuesday, prosecutors responded that they have shown that 8-year-old Martin Richard "was a beloved son and brother" whose slaying was witnessed by his family and caused "grievous harm and continuing grief."...

Liz Norden, the mother of brothers J.P. and Paul Norden, who each lost a leg in the bombings, was unmoved by what Prejean had to say about Tsarnaev.

"If he was that remorseful, then he should have gotten up on the stand and said how sorry he is," Norden said. "To have other people get up and talk on his behalf, it means nothing to me."..."

Strangely enough hearing what the Sister had to say did move me a little. I'm a (very much) lapsed Catholic and have always been against the death penalty in principal but having followed some awful cases here I've recently struggled with that. Sister Prejeans testimony kind of reminded me why I have always believed its wrong even though she didn't talk about that point of view.
Weird. I wonder if anyone on the jury felt that.

Sister Helen spoke at my (Catholic) high school when I was a teenager. I am anti-death penalty (but there are some extremely heinous cases where I waiver) due largely to my Catholic upbringing (I am not so religious now) and the fact that the death penalty is more expensive to the public than LWOP due to appeals, etc. I also think it's too easy - IMO the perfect punishment for someone like Tsarnaev would be spending the rest of his life in GENERAL POPULATION (ie: let the other prisoners have at him).

When Sr. Helen spoke at my school, I remember being unimpressed with her because she didn't seem so much to be spouting off the usual reasons Catholics give for opposing the death penalty but instead she went on and on about how sure she was that the murderers she'd worked with were truly sorry (and that a few were innocent). Even as a teen, she struck me as being worked over by narcissistic sociopaths who had laid on the charm and manipulation to convince her they were truly sorry....just like I'm sure Tsarnaev did.

Like I said, I'm anti-death penalty but this is one of the cases where I won't really be bothered if he gets the DP.
