Certainly modern parenting methods factor into why the late maturity of brains is occurring. Our culture does tend now to idolize little ones, making them feel that everything they do is wonderful and perfect, that our children aren't like "other children" and that our children are better, smarter, savvier than any other kids and that they aren't responsible for anything wrong that they do. American children have more done for them, less responsibility and way more "free time" than ever before. And it really hasn't been a good thing.

However, I personally think it is a bit simplistic to think that over-nurturing parenting styles are the only factor. We also have more toxins in our waters and our lands than ever before. We have toxins in the air we breathe. Our foods are filled with chemicals and toxins. When our children aren't breathing, drinking and eating toxins, we are injecting toxins into their systems along with their vaccines.
As a culture, we have made the choice to allow vile and violent games and movies to be "entertainment" not only for ourselves but for the young also. We offer these entertainments to those whose brains lack the maturity to properly deal with the assault on their senses. Study after study has shown violence as entertainment is harmful to children. Study after study has shown that sitting infants in front of tv, even "good" programs or dvd's such as Einstein's baby, results in shorter and shorter attention spans and more and more dependence on the part of the child to have others constantly entertain them----in very short sound bytes!

It all adds up, and what is mentioned above is only the tippytop of the huge mountain of why this delay in maturity is being noted.

Magnificent post...but then again as someone that is a native here and over the 68% mark of heavy metal toxicity...I could be very well biased. Thank You for taking the time to put your thoughts into words for all to witness.

frontol lobe..toxins in the water.

mtv. tv violence. ect whatever........personal responsibliity, where is it?

This makes my stomach churn. What a terrible thing to have happen :(

I agree, some parents have stopped parenting and it is literally killing us.

I’m praying for Audrenna and for her family. How awful that she is going through this horrifying experience. I hope that she can survive.

Sadly, 19 year old Audreanna R. Zimmerman passed away last night. I saw it just now on our local news. I'm looking for a link to the story now. 3 women have been arrested and charged with homicide-willful killing and pre-meditated murder. As film crews were catching the story one of the women asked not to be filmed, while another one said "get that camera out of my face before I spit in your face!"

My prayers go out to Adrianna's family. She leaves behind two young children.

Here's a link to the local paper, but I'm still looking for an updated story.

ESCAMBIA COUNTY - Nineteen-year-old Audreanna Zimmerman fought to stay alive for over two weeks, but Thursday night, she succumbed to her injuries.

Now, three women who lived next door to her are facing charges in her death.

"As far as an attack on an individual, this is one of the worst I have seen."

Investigators worked quickly Friday morning, rounding up the women accused of beating Audreanna Zimmerman with a crowbar, tasing her with a stun gun, and then setting her on fire. With Zimmerman's passing, all three of her former neighbors are now facing willful killing and premeditated murder charges.

Rest in peace Audreanna - sleep with the angels and fly with the eagles. God bless her little children.

Prayers & comfort for her children and family.

Three people, including a mother and her 16-year-old daughter, were indicted Tuesday in the death of a woman who was beaten with a crowbar, shocked with a stun gun and set on fire last month.

A grand jury indicted Britnee Miller, 16, her mother, Tina Brown, 39, and Heather Lee, 27, on first-degree murder and kidnapping charges.

The three were being held without bond Tuesday evening at Escambia County Jail.

Thanks for the update on this awful case, daisy. Definitely some details I hadn't heard. It is a shame what people are capable of doing to each other.

Thanks for the update on this awful case, daisy. Definitely some details I hadn't heard. It is a shame what people are capable of doing to each other.

It truly is horrible. This quote from the article is just heartbreaking:(

Zimmerman told EMS supervisor Susie Davis, "I thought we had made up," according to the report.

BTW - thank you for all your updates on other cases. It's much appreciated!!:)

:blowkiss:

I don't know who you would have turned out to be as a young woman, Audreanna, or what you may have been meant to contribute, but I mourn the fact we shall never know.

What a senseless act.

Up until she was put into a medically induced coma, Audreanna Zimmerman repeatedly recited the names of the assailants who set her on fire after repeatedly shocking her with a stun gun and beating her with a crow bar.

“I thought we had made up,” Zimmerman told Susie Davis, a paramedic supervisor with the Escambia County Emergency Medical Services.

Tina Brown, 41, along with her daughter, 19-year-old Britnee Miller, and Heather Lee, 29, are accused in the death of 19-year-old Zimmerman. The teen was attacked in March 2010 east of Ashland Avenue in the Ensley area.

After the attack with the stun gun and crow bar, Zimmerman was driven down a dirt trail, where she was doused with gasoline and set on fire.

She died in a Mobile hospital 16 days later.

Testimony in Brown’s first-degree murder trial in the killing of Zimmerman began Tuesday in Circuit Judge Gary Bergosh’s courtroom. A kidnapping charge against Brown was dropped Monday. If convicted as charged, Brown would face one of two possible penalties: life in prison or death.
